Chapter 361: Chapter 199 Meteorological Station Base

The Forest Wolf, a fearsome sentinel weapon, had a shooting range of 400 meters, and within that range, the scope could see things very clearly. Coupled with the tower bonus, zombies within a 500-plus meter range became targets. Another factor was the Forest Wolf’s power; as long as the shot didn’t hit a limb, normal zombies would go down with a single bullet. A headshot from White Crazy Savage would take them out instantly, while Blood Ferocious Ma would take one more shot. Titan would kneel with two shots, and after the fourth kneel, they’d die with the next hit.

Though both were bolt-action rifles, the Silencer and Forest Wolf were entirely different weapons. The shooting effect brought a tremendous sense of power, so it was no wonder Emerald Feather got addicted to using them.

With the Forest Wolf, sentinel towers increased their speed of clearing zombies significantly. Lin Wu thought about the .50 caliber machine gun he acquired during the last activity of the second expedition; if the sentries were equipped with that weapon, even if the six-star siege were all Titans, they wouldn’t flinch.

Even with the Forest Wolf, Shadow couldn’t think of a way to take down the first floor of the warehouse. Warehouse 88 was the closest resource point to Shadow, and they had reaped great rewards in the second floor’s office area. One could only imagine how many resources the first floor must hold.

...

On the fourth day after the construction of the Sawmill base, Shadow members, under Maya’s dispatch, seized the Meteorological Station on the northern slope above the sawmill. Lin Wu officially became the only member of the Meteorological Station.

The building area of the Meteorological Station was over 100 square meters, a single-story building 5 meters in height. It was comprised of three units—left, middle, and right—each about 40 square meters. The middle was a campfire living room with a radio and storage room. A small section on the left was turned into a dormitory, and the small section on the right was left unoccupied.

To everyone’s surprise, there were two large sections at the Meteorological Station. One was on the roof, as everyone had expected. There was another large section outside the main door. After discussions, everyone agreed to build a trading post on top of the large section. Once the trading post was established, everyone happily dumped all the trash from Shadow’s item storage into the Meteorological Station’s storage, and even those without OCD found the refreshed storage pleasing to look at.

Lin Wu glanced at the rubbish in his own base storage, unperturbed; if he didn’t open the storage, he wouldn’t see it. What was in the storage? Would you believe there was even mud? Also, there were crickets, broken cups, pens, picture magazines, tin cans... These were items people had casually thrown into their bags while out, which they didn’t need to sort because the items would fly to the storage when they returned to the base. Fortunately, most were miscellaneous items, and the storage wouldn’t be too bad as long as they didn’t search for anything in the miscellaneous section.

Lin Wu expressed his view: I am not good at business.

In light of this, and considering the loss brought by the dissolution of Lin Wu’s death base, Stone asked everyone to vote for one person to join the Meteorological Station base. After a round of voting, the results were in. Firstly, Little Knife and Snow Egg wouldn’t go; no one had the heart to split up the couple, as out of ten people, only one pair had teamed up, which was too rare. Stone was the leader and couldn’t go. Su Shi couldn’t go either. No one dared to vote for Maya. Horse Soul was a cook and couldn’t be Lin Wu’s welfare. Emerald Feather, being a doctor, must stay at the main base. Comparatively, everyone was less familiar with Peanut than with Shana, so Shana received all the votes.

Shana only joined the Shadow Base in name. Except for sleeping at the Meteorological Station every day, she could move freely as an ally at the main base most of the time. The only restriction was that she couldn’t take anything from the storage, but she could put things into the storage.

Shana was very happy to accept the voting result and moved to the Meteorological Station with her 13 chicks. She built a chicken nest beside the trading post and fenced off an area of more than 20 square meters with water ditches and grassland for the chickens.

After the Meteorological Station base was established, its south security zone almost bordered the north security zone of the main base, the closest distance being just two meters apart. The Meteorological Station base was situated about 15 meters higher than the main base. Once the sentinel post on the roof was completed, the sentinel’s field of vision included the western parking lot, the eastern parking lot, the northern gate, and about 40% of the backyard of the main base. All four gates of the main base were within the range of the Meteorological Station’s sentinel post.

South of the Meteorological Station was the main base, to the west sloping grasslands and past them a highway, and beyond the highway was a glass cutting factory. To the east were more sloping grasslands and then a fire station. North of the station was a mountainside, even higher mountains, followed by a road. North of the road was a lumber yard, and beyond that, a tree plantation that connected to a mountain range.

The road north of the Meteorological Station was named Highway 99 and was level with the station’s sentry post. Interestingly, the road sign on Highway 99 indicated that it led to Fantasy City, one of the ten super cities, 750 kilometers away. The nearest town, according to the sign, was 250 kilometers away and was not the north-south town but Leimeng Town.

Maya found from her research that Leimeng Town had a permanent population of about three thousand, with a large military and civilian cargo airport and an exclusive airfield for military use. Most of Leimeng’s townsfolk were associated with aviation or military work. The town was essentially a large military base, where soldiers and officers lived near the base, giving rise to many supporting commercial facilities, ultimately forming the town.

Currently, all vehicles at Shadow Base were fuel guzzlers. Without zombie interference and clear traffic, it would take roughly 30 liters of gasoline to cover 250 kilometers, and since a standard gasoline barrel in the game was 5 liters, it would require 6 barrels of gasoline just to reach Leimeng Town. The round trip could take several days. Considering unpredictable circumstances, Maya temporarily dismissed the idea of exploring Leimeng Town.
