Chapter 342: Chapter 192 Hardcore Mode_2
The question seemed simple, but in fact, it encompassed philosophy, ethics, morality, and many other aspects, causing everyone to fall silent in thought when Little Knife posed it. To eat or not to eat? Not eating meant switching out of "Hardcore Mode," while eating meant surviving.
"Time to rest or to stand watch," Maya concluded the meeting and walked over to Lin Wu, "Hunter’s second skill could be ’Eagle Eye.’" Eagle Eye was the unrivaled skill for tracking prey.
Lin Wu took it easy, replying, "With Wai around, are we afraid of running out of meat? Wai, today we’re going to have a lesson on idioms: ’a dog catching mice,’ come with me."
Furious that it did not contend! Little Knife fumed at Lin Wu’s retreating back, "Just keep bullying it, just keep bullying it."
"Bark at her."
Wai turned and barked at Little Knife, a fierce glint in its eyes. Clinging to Shana’s left arm, Little Knife complained, "He’s bullying me."
Meanwhile, Peanut commented, "It’s clearly you infringing upon his property rights. Wai belongs to his personal assets..."
Little Knife knocked Peanut out with a punch, thinking, If I don’t dare to hit a small fry, would I not dare to hit you?
...
The Nth complaint.
Lin Wu said, "The mice in our home don’t match reality. In reality, there are stupid mice, but the ones here are too agile; each and every one of them. Whether they’re full or hungry, their speeds are nearly identical, their reflexes are nearly identical. This situation is absolutely impossible."
Little White Rabbit explained, "In the summer, we will introduce a variety of wild animals capable of surviving in the World of Zombies, and we will grant them random traits. Right now, in order to cater to the majority of players, we’ve linearized the data, allowing players to detect patterns and thus catch prey more easily."
"What?"
Little White Rabbit repeated.
"Didn’t catch that."
Little White Rabbit continued repeating.
"Say it one more time."
Little White Rabbit repeated.
"Bye-bye."
"Wish you a pleasant day, goodbye."
Ha-ha! You can’t even play a trick, and you call yourself an AI? Lin Wu sneered: Lin Q wins.
Maya, sitting on a log to the side though unable to see Little White Rabbit, guessed what happened and said, "In the 19th century, the Qing Dynasty signed unequal treaties with various countries. To save face, the emperor had his subordinates only open the side door during negotiations. According to the etiquette of the time, the side door was meant for servants. Though they ultimately signed the unequal treaties, the emperor felt he had retained much face."
Watching Wai chase mice among the log piles, Lin Wu, without turning back, asked, "Run out of books to read, have you?"
"You just love revenge, don’t you?" Maya inquired.
Lin Wu propped himself with his hands and moved to the next log, sitting beside Maya, "Sigh... trapped."
"You’re not that diligent. You feel trapped because there are too many people and you need to greet and chat with them from time to time," Maya looked toward the hillside Meteorological Station, "Without building materials, your sub-base can’t be built."
Lin Wu explained, "I do like to chat, but not with too many people."
"Because you need to consider their relationships?" Maya asked.
"Yes, the more people there are, the more I have to think before I speak," Lin Wu suddenly leapt up, "Hey, hey, Wai, shut it!"
Wai had somehow bitten a chicken and immediately closed its mouth when its master commanded. Lin Wu urged frantically, "Open your mouth."
Maya and Lin Wu crouched in front of Wai, who sat with an open mouth drooling, the lifeless chicken inside.
Maya prodded the chicken with her finger and said to Lin Wu, "Shana is going to kill you."
"Betraying a companion is called being an accomplice," Lin Wu looked around; they were in the western parking lot’s log piles, and the sentries were busy exterminating zombies across the river, paying them no attention. Lin Wu reached out, took the chicken’s body, walked a few steps, and tossed it toward zombies ten meters away.
Lin Wu shouted, "Shana, your chicken is under attack by a zombie!"
Shana, who had just started her shift on the sentry post, turned and indeed saw her chicken under a zombie’s foot. She immediately fired, blasting the offending zombie to pieces.
Lin Wu called out, "Hurry and pen up all your chickens!"
Lin Wu watched as Shana hurried down from the post and crouched next to Wai, saying, "That thing just now was a chicken, I told you to catch mice. If you dare squeal, I will spank you."
Maya cracked a sarcastic smile, "You’re talking to me, right?"
Lin Wu, pretending not to hear, stroked the dog’s head, "Go on, go play."
Maya said, "I need to talk to you."
"What about?" Lin Wu asked.
"I heard you have a set of magazines?" Maya inquired.
Lin Wu paused, "Who said that?"
"Stone."
"The magazines were taken by them," Lin Wu replied.
"I know, I just wanted to confirm if it was Liu Bei," Maya said.
Lin Wu nodded.
Maya also nodded, "Figures." She had noticed Stone’s odd expression earlier and was glad she didn’t pry, or it would have been awkward.
Lin Wu clarified, "They aren’t mine."
Maya responded, "It’s okay if they were, that’s a perfectly normal thing. It would be abnormal not to like them."
Maya was bored too; there wasn’t much to tidy up around the base. Disinclined to idle chatter with everyone and lacking books to pass the time, she could only wander around aimlessly.
Lin Wu, though also bored, at least had Wai. Plus, he could sneak in a few shots when the house people weren’t paying attention. The Sawmill had plenty of space, and no one could hear Silencer’s gunfire. But things didn’t go as planned, and as he turned, he was startled by Stone’s fierce glare.
Lin Wu was quick to accuse, "Why scare me?" Maya had just left, and now came a chunk of Stone. Were they all so idle?
