Chapter 291: Chapter 172: Reconstruction_2
Lin Wu asked, "Do I really have to go back?"
Maya answered, "That’s not necessary. Shana has never had a close friend, and previously, because of Soulless brother’s affection, she kept everyone at arm’s length, maintaining distance so they would know better than to approach. However, I believe even if you’re not here, Shana will be able to adapt to life at the main base."
Lin Wu agreed, "Then that’s settled. When do we leave?"
Maya said, "Tomorrow morning? I’m not comfortable with her going back to the base alone, and Peanut just slept to read, it’s not good to ask him to go back right away."
Lin Wu said, "No problem. Peanut!"
"I’m here," Peanut appeared at the entrance of the corridor.
Lin Wu asked, "Is it convenient for you to return to the main base?"
Peanut answered, "If needed, just give the command." Good things should be shared with brothers.
Maya was somewhat surprised, wondering when Lin Wu and Peanut had become so close, and nodded, "Okay, then you better hurry, the sun is setting in half an hour."
...
Lin Wu and Shana said goodbye with a fist bump, watching Peanut and Shana leave. Lin Wu couldn’t help but get teary-eyed and rushed out saying, "Swallow, Swallow, you must survive, you have to be happy, you know..." Stupid girl, why would you pull out a gun? Sheesh!
Lin Wu returned to the base to find Maya reporting the situation to Stone.
Stone: "It’s a miracle you could hang out with that kid for so many days without going crazy. Just be careful not to be infected."
Lin Wu was furious and rushed over to snatch the walkie-talkie, but Maya turned around first, blocking Lin Wu with her back, "She’s not having a mental issue, there’s no need to treat her specially. You make sure Shana pays special attention to supervising Little Knife and Peanut’s training time; the fighting techniques taught by Peanut have greatly improved Little Knife’s skills."
"Alright, I got it." Stone: "Is that kid beside you?"
Maya looked back at Lin Wu and said, "No, he’s gone to send Shana off."
Stone: "He’s okay, right?"
"Yes," replied Maya.
Stone: "That’s good. I mean, if you can, you two should get married, to have someone to look out for each other."
Maya answered, "Okay, I’ll think about it, there’s no issue so I’m hanging up now."
"Mhm."
After ending the call, Maya went to organize the supply warehouse, then let out a cry of surprise, "Where are the bullets?"
Lin Wu replied, "Shana might have taken them back to the main base."
Maya stared at Lin Wu for three seconds, to which Lin Wu said helplessly, "Last time Shana got a fracture and used a batch."
"I know, and the rest?"
"I used some at the trade meet, around 50, 60? Or maybe 70 bullets?"
"If you’re short on bullets, just tell the base." Maya said like talking to a child who needed extra care, shaking her head helplessly, then called Stone, "Next time someone comes over, have them bring along 100 rounds of pistol ammo." Bullets don’t weigh much, and when you’re confined to a sickbed, it’s essential to carry extra ammo when you go outside.
Just like last time Shana broke her bone, if they didn’t carry enough pistol bullets, it would have been difficult to fight their way out.
Stone: "Okay." He wouldn’t ask Maya for a reason.
Maya continued to organize the warehouse, sorting out the many useless items. After spending a lot of time getting the supply warehouse in order, she went to check on the supplies. Then, she chopped down a tree, dragged it back to the base, and with a machete and some nails, made two simple chairs. Lin Wu sat on one and leaned back; it felt fantastic. He put his feet up on the radio table—so comfortable!
That wasn’t the end; at Maya’s request, Lin Wu helped her set up a few canopies over the main entrance. Maya then cleared the snow underneath. This gave players a broad view and a clear area to move during a Blood Zombie attack.
After all that work, Maya went to the library to read. She laid out, sat up, twisted, and even stood upside down to read books, unlike Lin Wu. When Maya read, she sat up straight and would lift the book up because of the insufficient light instead of bending over. The books she read were either Nobel Prize winners or nominees.
Facing two partners with such different personalities, Lin Wu couldn’t help but admire himself for getting along with both of them so well.
...
The night passed uneventfully, and they woke up in the early morning. Maya called Lin Wu to the watchtower, and Lin Wu informed her of a nearby Titan. Maya acknowledged, saying the purpose of going to the watchtower was to kill the Titan. Why? Because zombies move around, you can’t be sure how far the Titan will wander towards the base every day. It’s better to act first rather than betting on the goodwill of the Titan.
As the first rays of sunlight hit the supermarket base, the sound of gunfire erupted. Facing the onslaught, the Titan, that had survived until after the blizzard, put up a fierce fight against the sinister barrel of a gun but eventually fell in a pool of blood.
"Cover me." Maya leaped down from the rooftop and landed beside the Titan’s body in the snowy field. Lin Wu cleared surrounding zombies from the guard post, providing Maya with a safe environment for Corpse Looting.
"Hunter’s Skill Book, Intelligence Card." An Intelligence Card could increase intelligence by one star. After Maya finished the explanation, she assisted Lin Wu in clearing nearby zombies. With this Hunter’s Skill Book, Lin Wu was now only short by one book.
After the task was complete, Lin Wu casually descended from the post while Maya had already finished her preparations, "Let’s go."
"Where to?" Can’t we catch a breath?
"To the cement factory," Maya said. "Neither of our bases has a Biochemist. And there won’t be any new doctors joining the bases for a while, so we need to farm more Serum."
Lin Wu: "I haven’t had breakfast yet."
Maya paused, looking at Lin Wu, unsure how to respond.
Feeling a bit guilty, Lin Wu asked in a low voice, "Can I have a cup of tea before we go?"
"Prepare it to take with you," Maya said. "I’ll check the surrounding area for zombies."
