Chapter 272 - 164 Alliance

Chapter 272: Chapter 164 Alliance

Though the days were leisurely, just like most players, Lin Wu and Shana were keener on fishing for treasures. With the enhancements from baiting and live baits, they reaped a bountiful harvest over the course of 24 hours. Key items included:

Advanced Repeater: An item similar to a silencer, it has a 2% chance of delivering a fatal blow on the first shot. The downside is that it doubles the noise and the wear and tear on the firearm.

Tracer Bullet Upgraded Magazine: This upgrade can transform a firearm’s magazine into an automatic tracer bullet magazine, with one bullet in the magazine replaced by a tracer bullet. The position of the tracer bullet can be set. It seems to serve no purpose, but it’s quite useful in actual combat. For example, if a magazine holds 30 bullets, and the tracer bullet is set to be the 29th, you’ll know when the tracer bullet is fired that the magazine is about to be emptied and needs to be replaced.

Base Camera: Installing cameras within a 500-meter radius around the base allows for the acquisition of visual data from those locations. Since video is only unlocked at the two-star command center, the installation requirement is that the base must have a two-star command center.

Training Card: Gold. It allows for the construction of a training facility within the base, providing one-on-one free instruction in subjects such as engineering, physics, mathematics, cooking, finance, and law. Most notably, when dismantling the training facility, the Training Card is returned. However, nearly all players participating in the Ice Fishing Festival received this Gold Card. Those who didn’t catch more than two fish did not receive the card.

Base Radar Card: Allows for the construction of a Base Radar within the base, doubling the scanning range.

Sniper Building Card: Can upgrade an outpost to a Sniper Tower, increasing range by 50% and noise reduction by 20%. The downside: it consumes 1 unit of ammunition per day.

Battlefield First Aid Manual: Reading it allows a doctor to be promoted to a battlefield first aid officer. They can handle fractures, bleeding, and poisoning states that last no longer than 5 minutes.

Surgical Procedure Tome: Upon reading, a doctor is promoted to a surgeon, able to handle bleeding and fractures.

Biochemist Card: When used by a doctor, they’re promoted to a biochemist, capable of treating all viral infections, including but not limited to zombie virus and common cold virus.

General Practitioner’s Collection: After reading, a doctor is promoted to a general practitioner, able to handle all conditions and injuries except for zombie virus infections.

Pharmacology Encyclopedia: Doctors, upon reading, are promoted to pharmacists, and the output of processed herbs and semi-finished drugs is doubled when making medications.

On the second day of the Ice Fishing Festival at 7:50 AM, the system broadcasted: "Thank you all for taking the time to attend the Ice Fishing Festival. To meet the needs of our players, after 8:00 AM today doctor promotion skills will specially be made available, with details available in the game manual."

After the game update, the infirmary could be upgraded to a dual-bed ward, with the function of the sickbeds decreasing to zero. In other words, even if an injured person lay in a sickbed for a year, their condition would not automatically improve. However, if a doctor is on duty in the infirmary, it’s a different story. Depending on the type of doctor, the conditions and injuries they can treat will vary.

The second major update was the nerfing of bandages.

For example, before the update, moderate bleeding would turn to mild bleeding after applying a bandage. After the update, applying a bandage to moderate bleeding turns it into mild bleeding for 5 minutes. After 5 minutes, the wound will revert to moderate bleeding. To resolve moderate bleeding, one must visit the infirmary for treatment by a doctor or receive on-the-spot treatment from a battlefield first aid officer.

Painkillers are still painkillers, relieving pain while restoring health. Poisoning remains the same, with no medication to cure it, and one must rely on painkillers for health regeneration and endure as the toxicity gradually decreases. After the update, first aid officers can handle poisoning.

General practitioners are a very special existence, nearly able to handle all injuries and conditions, but they heal at half the speed of specialists. A fracture that a specialist doctor can heal in one hour, a general practitioner would require two hours.

Doctors without promotions are equivalent to half a general practitioner, and their healing speed is halved again.

Shana and the players in the nearby tents learned through conversation that almost all players received both the Training Card and a set of Doctor Career Change Cards. This indicated that Shana and Maya were right, Dawn had given players a day off for a more brutal player torture to follow.

This update had a significant impact on Lin Wu; in the future, he could not rely solely on medications to brave the world alone. And the previously insignificant doctors now became hot commodities; to treat all injuries and diseases, a base must have at least two doctors.

The most deadly new rule after the update is that to prevent players with nefarious intentions from stealing from others’ bases, and to protect player interests, new members to a base will go through a three-hour probation period. During these three hours, newcomers cannot take any items from the warehouses or use any base facilities.

Translation: Temporary emergency base joinings or seeking emergency aid by joining a base are nullified.

Dawn still had a bit of a conscience, knowing not to push players too hard. After all, if everyone died, what would become of the zombie lunch? The dinner? Therefore, Dawn included a patch in the update: opening base alliance missions. After two bases cooperate to complete a mission, they can form an alliance, not only allowing the sharing of doctors and patients but also the use of all facilities of the allied base except for dormitories.

In addition, player entry into an allied base will not restrict weapons and skills, which is also a variable.

The number of possible alliances is based on the population of the base, referred to by the system as "manpower," which is a new term introduced in this update.
