Chapter 265: Chapter 162 A5 (Part 1)
The two parties separated at the county marker, with Lin Wu and Shana heading towards the creek near the supermarket base to find a fishing rod for Shana. Lin Wu had previously found a fishing rod at the creek. However, the creek in winter was not only frozen but also covered with knee-deep snow, so they could only rely on digging to find the tent buried under the heavy snow.
"Do you know how to fish?"
Shana answered while scooping snow with her hands, "Yes."
Lin Wu said, "You know how to do a lot of things."
Shana thought for a long time, "There’s little I don’t know."
Lin Wu said dissatisfied, "Hey, girl. When I compliment you, you’re supposed to thank me, not to brag about yourself."
Shana helplessly said, "What I said is true. My mother tried to find my interests and let me try many, many things—skiing, fishing, yoga, ballet, piano, violin, painting, exploring, photography, public speaking, charity, animals, astronomy... so many things."
Lin Wu asked, "Did she find it in the end?"
Shana replied, "I lose interest after mastering the skills. My mother said I would most likely get divorced in the future. I asked why. She said you’ll divorce when you lose interest in your husband. My greatest flaw is a lack of perseverance, I can’t stick with anything for long."
Lin Wu somewhat understood, "So, you chose ’Will’ as your main attribute."
Shana nodded.
Lin Wu said, "But your nature is to be fickle. What does that have to do with ’Will’?"
Shana approached Lin Wu with a smile, intending to fix him on the spot, but his words just now made her think of her mother. Shana stopped and stared blankly at the sky for a long time before saying, "My mom said, she said she needs to earn more money to prepare more dowries for me."
Although there was a smile, tears were in her eyes. Lin Wu knew she was thinking of her parents again. He also looked to the sky to summon sentimental feelings, and after a while, he decided to continue digging: At least you have someone to think about, I don’t even have a reference.
It took a long time for Shana to regain her composure, "My mom was joking. She said that meeting my dad was one of the luckiest things in her life. I really envy their love, their unwavering commitment to each other."
"One of?" Lin Wu found the most appropriate topic for conversation.
Shana looked at Lin Wu, "Yeah, the luckiest of course is having me."
Unable to endure it, Lin Wu said, "Let’s fight."
Shana posed, "I’ve learned Jeet Kune Do."
Lin Wu pulled out a fishing rod from the snow and swung it at Shana, who ducked and dodged, shouting, "Jeet Kune Do, Jeet Kune Do!"
"Gentle, gentle, don’t break it." After taking the fishing rod, Shana checked its integrity and turned to see Lin Wu standing on a stone by the creek. Shana asked in confusion, "What are you doing?" She couldn’t understand it at all.
Without a word, Lin Wu spread his arms and fell freely, landing face down on the snow, creating a human-shaped pit. Lin Wu carefully kneeled and then stood up, looking at the pit with pride, "Even the pit I make is so handsome."
"You’re so childish." Shana said in disbelief, but couldn’t help asking out of curiosity, "Why do you always do such crazy things?"
Lin Wu explained, "While digging, I felt the snow was very thick... Solar Demon."
Shana looked over and saw footprints appeared ten meters away, deeply imprinted and moving slowly, accompanied by the ’pigeon’ sound of stepping on snow. Shana took out a hockey stick and moved forward, "Solar Demon’s combat strength is nothing compared to Night Demon’s."
Lin Wu agreed, as among all mutant zombies he encountered, he was still quite wary of the Night Demon. It could be said that the Night Demon was Lin Wu’s second greatest adversary. Facing Frenzy and Titan, Lin Wu could fight or run. Though Blind Bat was also strong, it made noise. Though Solar Demon has the ability to become invisible, its combat strength is weak. The Night Demon, with poor defensive abilities but unpredictable attacks and high damage, could bite off half of a player’s life in a single bite.
Seeing a Solar Demon, Lin Wu deployed his drone and found that there was a player inside the supermarket base. It was a player who had been locked out of weapons and skills, lacking destructive and offensive power, standing near the base radio.
After killing the Solar Demon, Lin Wu and Shana hurried back to the supermarket and encountered Nightmare, who had broken into the base. Upon seeing the two, Nightmare didn’t reminisce or dawdle but handed over a clothes-making skill book, saying, "I need helpers."
...
Nightmare found the A5 laboratory, which was located in an abandoned iron ore mine at the edge of the mountain range beside the lower farm railroad.
Nightmare said, "Once the alarm is triggered, the lab will self-destruct in one hour."
Nightmare drew a topographic map, a plain of three to four thousand meters with many piled-up stones around it and some scrapped trucks. The A5 Nightmare mentioned was inside the mine pit at the front. Nightmare needed to reach the core area of A5 and take the chief engineer’s personal laptop.
The security forces here consist of two types: zombies and auto turrets. The auto turrets continuously scan the open space and as soon as they detect a thermal source resembling a human shape, they will not only fire but also sound the alarm. Triggering the alarm starts a one-hour countdown.
Lin Wu asked, "Do you want me to stealth into the mine pit?"
"No, I need your gun," Nightmare said. "Only I can shut down the two auto turrets, but the number of zombies in the open area is too large, I need you to clear a path for me."
Shana said, "Why not just kill all the zombies first?"
"Sure, that’s possible, but as I said, there are a lot of zombies. There are several small hills of stacked stones in the open area, and there might be zombies hiding inside or near the scrapped trucks."
