Chapter 201: Chapter 137: The Curtain Falls

Maya took the initiative, "I should apologize to you for what happened a few days ago."

Lin Wu hurriedly said, "No, after thinking it over and over, your decision was the best one. If it weren’t for me drawing the zombies away, none of us would have survived. Looking at the outcome, your decision was indeed the best, ensuring we all made it through."

Maya asked, "But what?"

After a moment of hesitation, Lin Wu said, "In the ’Saving Blue Star’ movie, sacrificing one person to save Blue Star is seen as the right thing by everyone. It’s just that the plot isn’t right. The person who is sacrificed should be the one to volunteer for it, not be told by others, ’Sacrifice yourself and you can save Blue Star. We hope you won’t refuse.’

Lin Wu continued, "From my perspective, I’d rather the mission failed and we all were done for than sacrifice one of my comrades. Of course, you’re a soldier, and your thoughts are different from mine. Anyway, the outcome wasn’t bad."

After listening to him, Maya reached out to shake hands with Lin Wu,"I’m glad you made it back alive."

Lin Wu said, "Thank you, me too."

The broadcast announced, "Dear players, hello. The expedition to Waste City instance has officially concluded, and we will distribute rewards according to the points scored. You have three hours before being teleported out of the instance, within which you can select or challenge your rewards."

The broadcast continued, "Next, we’ll start the first instance mini-event: Waste City Quiz. Everyone switch your communication headsets to channel two and give your answers to channel two. The player who answers each question correctly first will receive a permanent outfit skin reward. This includes but is not limited to dresses, western cowboy sets, fashion clothes, evening gowns, combat uniforms, and so forth."

The broadcast asked, "The first question, what is the name of the Waste City Mayor?"

"What the heck?" Lin Wu was stunned, having been in the city hall for a few days without hearing of any mayor. Looking at Maya, she was just as puzzled.

After ten seconds, the broadcast said, "Shana from Shadow Base has answered correctly. The second question, which factory is related to the green device?"

Lin Wu and Maya looked at each other again, bewildered. Did they have this information? The two had been fighting and surviving all along. How could there still be documents in the ruins of the city? At this moment, Maya recalled the soldier’s code that Sunlight had shown her, evidently hiding many clues within Waste City.

After ten seconds, the broadcast said, "Shana from Shadow Base has once again answered correctly. The third question, what project was used to install the green devices throughout the city?"

Lin Wu and Maya were completely dumbfounded. Did they have this information?

The broadcast said, "Little Knife from Shadow Base answered correctly."

Lin Wu protested, "That’s cheating, how could Little Knife possibly answer correctly?"

"Shh." Maya gestured for Lin Wu to be quiet and answered the question, "There are three rally points; the first one is on top of the slums."

The broadcast confirmed, "Maya from Starfire Base answered correctly. Where are the Waste City survivors?"

Lin Wu immediately interjected, "On the warship." That’s right, I was!

After a brief wait, the broadcast hinted, "Reminder, somewhere in District 6."

What the heck? Was it referring to NPC survivors? Lin Wu was confused, feeling he had made a colossal error. In the past few days, he had always been fighting solo. Besides the people at the rally points, he had barely interacted with others.

Maya hesitated for a moment, seeming unsure, then said, "The subway station being constructed in District 6?"

The broadcast urged, "Please be more specific."

After recalling, Maya said, "The Museum Station?"

The broadcast stated, "Fire Dance from Starfire Base has answered correctly. The question and answer session is over. Players who wish to exchange their prizes can return to their cabins. In half an hour, we will host several game events on the sea and hope everyone will participate enthusiastically."

...

Lin Wu and Maya left the deck, their cabin was next to the command room. Lin Wu entered his creation warehouse and closed the door, opened his system panel, selected missions, and saw a total score of 590 points, ranking first. Lin Wu was exceptionally surprised; he knew Dawn, while a trap, was a credible one that wouldn’t skimp on what was promised.

As the top finisher of the Waste City instance, Lin Wu was entitled to a special ’choose one out of three’ reward.

The first reward: An exclusive item, Hero’s forehead guard which could block ten headshots and was repairable, equivalent to being immune to headshots.

The second reward: After dying three times, one may choose to keep either attributes or skills. Keeping attributes would reset skills to zero. Keeping skills would reset attributes to zero.

The third reward: Select an additional attribute as a main attribute, if it was already a main attribute, receive double the bonus. If selected as a secondary attribute, receive a 1.5 times bonus. This reward is permanent and will not change upon death.

The first reward obviously catered to PK players who were always fighting. Even without headshots, players would die in a PK; a .50 caliber bullet would punch a hole right through. Against Titans and Frenzies, such players wouldn’t care whether you had a forehead guard or not, making the first reward seem quite useless to Lin Wu.

Lin Wu viewed the second reward as a consolation for death; leave alone the fact it only applied three times, without attribute bonuses, skill effects would be heavily compromised. Without skills, high attributes were useless. The only thing that made Lin Wu hesitate was whether he could use death to farm for skills. When breaking through to 3, 5, or 10 stars in primary or secondary attributes, one might gain new skills.

But Lin Wu knew well the adage ’gambling is the greatest evil’; betting with Dawn would surely leave him without even his underwear.

The third reward was very solid; the question was, what to choose? Increase strength? Aside from manual labor, strength didn’t seem that important. At least, strength added no bonuses to Stealth combat, nor to using Silencers and M16s.
