Chapter 197: Chapter 135 Waste City (IX)

Lin Wu didn’t make another sound. He launched a drone and found the green device near Death Road. It was located at the crossroads of two major roads, about two hundred meters from Death Road. As Maya had mentioned, he could slide down the power lines to the rooftop of a building near the green device. But to trigger it, he had to leap from the rooftop to the crossroads to be scanned by the green device.

This area hadn’t been destroyed, and each building was full to the brim with zombies. If he triggered the alarm, it would take less than ten seconds for zombies from all directions to tear him to pieces.

Sunlight said, "My sister has enhanced strength and agility, she can replace Lin Wu."

Maya replied, "No, Lin Wu has another task which is to wait. He must get to the green device and wait for us to leave before triggering the alarm."

Lin Wu let out a long sigh, "No rush, right? If there’s no rush, I’ll write a will for you to take to Stone."

Maya answered seriously, "You can choose not to go." This was the Maya who had come to know Lin Wu, letting her emotions overrule her logical judgment.

Lin Wu said, "It’s just a game, of course I’ll go." If it were reality, you think I’d go?

Having said that, Lin Wu headed downstairs to the basement to replenish his supplies and got more rope, although he wasn’t sure what good it would do at this point. As he watched the footage transmitted back by the drone, Lin Wu restocked on food and ammunition. The drone hovered over the crossroads, scanning to find that the density of zombies in the vicinity was extremely high.

He was so engrossed in the footage that he didn’t notice Fire Dance had come up beside him, "Hi."

Lin Wu responded, "Hi." He stepped aside to let Fire Dance grab supplies first.

Fire Dance said, "After we broke up, I went abroad."

Lin Wu asked, "Did you have fun?"

Fire Dance responded, "I did a lot of thinking."

Lin Wu asked in surprise, "You went to Zone Three? Embarked on a philosophical journey?"

Fire Dance said, "I’m talking about thinking a lot about us."

Lin Wu nodded, "No need to overthink it, just a little reflection is enough."

Fire Dance admitted, "I realized I did a lot of things wrong."

Lin Wu said, "That’s why I broke up with you."

Fire Dance couldn’t help but clench her fists, why had this man become so annoying? She couldn’t restrain her urge to challenge him, "Is that it?"

"What do you mean ’is that it’?"

"Is that how you treat our almost two years of feelings?"

Lin Wu replied, "I sat with a chubby kid in elementary school for six years, and I still wouldn’t let him cheat off my exam. He never asked me, ’Is that how you treat our six years of being desk buddies?’"

Fire Dance was stunned...

"He never asked because he’s smart. He knows why I don’t let him cheat: because I don’t want him to drop from second-to-last to last. Because he’s smart, he wouldn’t ask." Lin Wu loaded a full magazine, grabbed a few lengths of rope, and said, "Time’s almost up, I have to go and die now. It was nice to see you again. Oh and, happy wedding. Ta-ta."

Fire Dance turned to watch Lin Wu walk down the steps, then looked at Starlight standing to one side, who said, "Undoubtedly, he’s much smarter than he was back then."

...

Lin Wu stood on tiptoe, hung a piece of rope over the power line and gave it a tug — it held. It was a 70 cm length of rope, knotted at both ends, which formed two loops when hung over the line. Holding both loops allowed him to slide down.

To the left of the villa, two cars had already left the garage, transporting two soldiers and two scientists. Maya stood up from the passenger seat, gave Lin Wu a thumbs-up. Lin Wu returned the gesture, pushed off with his feet, and began to accelerate while hanging from the power line.

Something felt off...

Damn! Lin Wu saw a power pole; he was sliding at 40 kilometers per hour. In his mind, he pictured a cartoon scene where a cat slams into a pole, its limbs move past but its body doesn’t.

Lin Wu thought quickly, spreading his legs to one side and using his hips to hit the pole. The recoil caused him to swing back before hitting the pole again. It was very painful, but bearable, thanks in part to Dawn’s pain threshold settings. Hanging from the power line with one hand, he took a painkiller. With his right hand, he pulled out a new piece of rope, slung it around the pole, and secured it to the line, letting go with his left hand to begin a new slide.

With his recent experience, Lin Wu was much more cautious this time, carefully controlling his speed and even using his free hand to slow down. After passing a second power pole, his movements became more practiced. Soon, he arrived near his target.

Releasing his grip, Lin Wu dropped from the three-meter-high power line onto the roof of a building — the crossroads were not far beneath him. Once he landed, he took out the Silencer and killed the closest zombie, then used Wind Stinger to eliminate another three meters away before immediately entering Stealth mode.

The zombies chasing Lin Wu were much slower than him, and as he stealthily moved, they lost track of his position. Lin Wu crouched on the roof edge and waited, pressing his headset: "Step one of the death mission complete." He also took out two zombies on the rooftop across, eight meters away.

Maya said, "Move on to step two."

Lin Wu took out a new rope, tied one end to a stone, and looped it over the power line. Letting the stone fall, he measured the length before cutting the rope with a dagger and tying a knot. After a tug to check, he reported, "Step two of the death mission complete."

Maya said, "We’re in position and ready for step three."
