Chapter 132: Chapter 107: Return to North Lake
The day shift crew gathered at the entrance of the tunnel. Since Lin Wu and Maya were soaked through, everyone collected dry branches and started a fire at the tunnel entrance. Maya took this opportunity to arrange tasks. The team was split into two groups, Lin Wu, Maya, and Horse Soul in one, capable of facing multiple zombies and eliminating Frenzy. Little Knife, Snow Egg, and Shana formed the other group, with Little Knife responsible for Frenzy while the others dealt with scattered zombies.
Once the fight started, everyone realized that dividing the team was pointless, as Maya and Little Knife were basically handling all the killing while the others strolled and chatted behind them. Snow Egg asked about the new base, and Lin Wu described it, which couldn’t compare to Shadow base. Horse Soul talked about amusing incidents at Bai Ban. After being apart for half a day, their relationships seemed to have grown closer.
Perhaps this is the beauty that comes from distance.
Gradually, Lin Wu and Shana fell behind. Lin Wu politely asked if she was accustomed to the leadership work, but the usually reticent Shana bluntly said, "One team, two leaders, what do you think?"
Lin Wu said, "It’s all part of the job."
Shana expressed some regret, "If it wasn’t for my poor abilities, getting tangled in emotional disputes, you wouldn’t have abandoned me."
Lin Wu responded, "Not entirely, but you’re not wrong. Bai Ban is fortunate; everyone happily scavenges together, jokes around, each person armed, and the scavenging zones have been scouted by Maya in advance, so there’s hardly any great danger."
Shana said, "But you prefer exploration."
Lin Wu nodded, "Yes, exploring carries risks. I am rather indifferent to my own life or death; I don’t want to cause others’ deaths because of my caprice."
Shana nodded slightly without saying anything. After walking for a while, she said, "If my death ensured a return to North Town, would you dare to go on the night shift with me?"
Lin Wu asked in surprise, "Do you have an exclusive entry? What is it?"
Shana shook her head, "No, I meant if."
Lin Wu said, "If you could respawn locally, then death wouldn’t be a punishment for you."
Shana sighed lightly, "I want points. I don’t covet high points; I just hope that my points won’t be too low. To be honest, if I only work the day shift, my points can only increase by surviving more days."
Lin Wu said, "Surviving alone gives you points. Moreover, I think you should learn more from Maya, she has a quite good personal understanding of the game. In a post-apocalyptic world, resources, especially bullets, are scarce. Use one less bullet every time you fire. Crossbow bolts, due to their low production costs and recyclability, have become the most practical ranged weapons."
Shana said, "Cold weapons will be mainstream for a long time."
Lin Wu said, "That’s why the first question you should ask yourself is: what cold weapon will you choose? Horse Soul uses bludgeons and has no significant breakthrough for now. Little Knife has transitioned to Brawler, Maya is a Sharp Blade Swordsman, Snow Egg uses heavy weaponry; what about you? You aren’t just settled on bludgeons, are you?" Bludgeons can be found everywhere; even the branches obtained from chopping down a tree count as bludgeons.
Shana said, "Primary Agility, secondary Will. As someone with primary Agility like you, do you have any suggestions?"
Lin Wu thought for a long while, "I don’t know. But I know many skills appear after using a weapon for a long time. My Wind Stinger came about because I was constantly using a steak knife to sneak attacks. Quick Gunner came from continuously firing for two minutes during a church siege, with almost every shot a headshot."
Shana said, "But there are many people who have killed more zombies with guns than you have, yet no one has mastered the Quick Gunner skill." She finished, subconsciously glancing down.
Lin Wu immediately stepped to the side to block the view and glared angrily, "I definitely don’t have an entry like that, nor do I have such behavior." The nerve, to tarnish my reputation.
Shana covered her mouth, laughing non-stop, angering Lin Wu, who turned his head and walked away. Shana caught up from behind, saying, "Hey, don’t be like that, it’s just a joke. Do you have any weapon recommendations?"
Lin Wu slowed down, "You can’t follow Maya’s Swordsman path; she’s strength-focused with high attack power and beheading rate. Main Agility seems to only allow for stealth and execution routes. Perhaps you could learn my way, unless using Wind Stinger, I mostly go for Stealth execution."
Sneak up, stab in the head, take down, all in one go. This method lacks efficiency, it’s not even as good as Stone swinging a water pipe. The advantage is safety, especially effective when infiltrating dangerous areas alone.
As an assassin, Lin Wu gave up sneaking around today and, with Maya, brazenly burst into the bus company, confrontationally fighting a horde of zombies, nearly beaten to a pulp.
...
Lin Wu began to doubt if he had been mistaken about someone during the night. After receiving Nightmare at the Right County tunnel entrance, Lin Wu noticed that Nightmare didn’t pay much attention to Shana, mostly following Maya around and occasionally speaking with her, as if Maya was the one she knew best. Shana had no objections to this. Lin Wu deliberately fell behind with Shana, chatting sneakily; Nightmare didn’t even turn her head to look back once.
These past few days, the zombies in the tunnel had been consecutively cleansed. Shadow base had managed to turn a tunnel dense with zombies into a rural lane with one zombie every ten meters or so. In two kilometers, not even a hint of Frenzy was seen, recalling the years when the trade convoy passed through the tunnel, with Frenzy sightings everywhere.
This led Lin Wu to consider a question: most players are currently huddled in the countryside, and even Shadow base wouldn’t consider moving to county towns until after winter. Would that mean the zombies in North City and Future City would be denser than in an anthill for a long time? It seems to venture to Future City, at the very least, an armored vehicle would be needed.
