Chapter 123: Chapter 103 Repeating Crossbow_3
Nearing Carriage 7, Nightmare asked, "Can I take a look at the Blood Plague?"
"Of course," Maya replied.
The four of them entered Carriage 7 together. The Blood Plague was still the same, showing no significant changes after being stabbed for two days. As Nightmare stared at the Blood Plague, Little Knife quietly asked from behind, "What’s she thinking?" What’s so interesting about this thing?
Lin Wu answered, "The spirit is willing, but the flesh is weak."
Hearing this, Nightmare turned to glance at Lin Wu, saying nothing, then said, "Let’s go." As Lin Wu had said, she couldn’t kill the Blood Plague. Or rather, she could kill it, but she was unable to complete the looting process within a minute.
As they continued on, Nightmare started to talk a bit more. She said to Maya, "The Blood Plague will continue to summon Blood Zombies if it’s continuously damaged, with at least one Blood Ferocious Ma appearing in each wave. The fifth consecutive summoning will definitely bring a Titan. The shortest interval between each summoning wave is five seconds. To kill the Blood Plague, you have to finish it off as quickly as possible."
Maya, who liked to exchange gaming experiences, said, "The cost is too high. We used up all our ammunition and nineteen tube bombs scavenged from the outside, and still couldn’t kill the Blood Plague directly. Compared to the final loot, it wasn’t really worth it from a certain perspective." The most cost-effective were the Raiders, and the 150 bullets magazine that came with the Raiders.
Nightmare said, "You need a professional ammunition expert. Chemistry can be upgraded to Ammunition, unlocking various explosives."
Maya responded, "You know a lot."
Nightmare nodded in acknowledgment, admitting she did know quite a bit.
As Lin Wu listened to the two chatting behind him, he got the impression that Nightmare had taken a liking to Maya, at least more so than to himself. Lin Wu had never encountered a girl who liked other girls, so he was unsure if Nightmare’s behavior was because she was into girls.
After passing the train, the number of zombies began to increase; Little Knife joined the fight, leaving a sighing Lin Wu to pick up the scraps behind. There was no helping it—for Lin Wu, his efficiency in clearing zombies wasn’t high. Wind Stinger could instantly kill zombies, but due to stamina limitations, it was only good for three-paneled axe strikes. Beast Trap worked well one-on-one, decent for two, but risked injury against three.
Tsch! The experts wouldn’t bother killing such small potatoes. Curse you, Little Knife, hogging all the Frenzy kills.
From the conversation between Nightmare and Maya, it was clear that the biggest problem for Nightmare alone in the tunnel was the Frenzy. After a headshot knocked a Frenzy aside, many thought it was to protect players, but in fact, it was the Frenzy avoiding continuous fire. Therefore, a Repeating Crossbow couldn’t head-on fight the Frenzy and had to kite them. Kiting in such a dense zombie-packed tunnel was a death wish.
The only means for Nightmare to deal with the Frenzy was a scattergun; close range didn’t require aiming, and it could easily kill the Frenzy. Still, firing a gun in the tunnel was also courting death.
Given Nightmare’s abilities, she could kite one Frenzy but with two she’d have to use the scattergun, and with three, the only option would be to run. In fact, after passing the train, the number of Frenzy increased dramatically. Before, they had stealthed through; now, they had to fight their way through, often facing attacks from five Frenzy at once. Even if Little Knife and Lin Wu were fierce fighters, they couldn’t do much against five Frenzy but to retreat and kite them, luring them to a safer area to kill one by one.
The five hundred meters after the train was tough and slow-going. To fulfill the promise of reaching the tunnel entrance in two hours, Maya decided to adopt a Stealth tactic.
Lin Wu’s Silencer equipped a suppressor, working with Maya’s Repeating Crossbow to carve a path. No talking, no chatting, no Corpse Looting, making as little noise as possible. This greatly increased their speed, and they managed to get Nightmare to the tunnel entrance in just one hour and fifty minutes.
"Tomorrow night at eight," said Nightmare to Maya.
Maya nodded.
Standing beside Maya, Lin Wu watched Nightmare disappear into the night and said, "She’s taken a liking to you."
Maya asked, "Should I thank her?" She would only respond like that to Lin Wu’s inquiry, normally she would have dismissed the matter and said, "Let’s go back."
Lin Wu laughed and then asked, "Fight our way back? Just to be clear, I’m not picking up arrows."
"I’ll pick them up myself," Maya said.
"Time for a bloodbath in the tunnel, let’s get to work!" Lin Wu turned and was startled to see Little Knife, which made him realize, "Oh right, you’re here too." Immediately after, he ducked and covered his head as an angry Little Knife rained blows on him with both hands.
Lin Wu explained, "It was an oversight, really, I just forgot." Unknown to him, the reason for this beating was precisely because he had said it without thinking; it would have been fine if it were intentional.
Who in the world would expect three people in a squad? Scared the living daylights out of someone.
