Chapter 121: Chapter 103 Repeating Crossbow
Even Little Knife noticed that Nightmare didn’t know how to do business, revealing her cards after just a few words. So, with a grand gesture, Little Knife declared, "We’ll take everything. The map, the spray gun, the katana, and the repeating crossbow. We want it all."
Everyone looked at Little Knife, who suddenly hesitated and asked in a low voice, "Should we want one less thing?" Why was everyone so kind? We could dictate our terms. Nightmare could pay on delivery, right? What if, just what if, she was willing to pay?
Shana spoke up, "The condition is as Lin Wu said, the repeating crossbow plus the System Map."
"I want the repeating crossbow, no map," Nightmare said. "I’m heading to Right County to undertake a task with two branches. One branch requires giving the System Map to an NPC, and the other involves showing the NPC the repeating crossbow."
If Shadow wanted the System Map, Nightmare could keep the repeating crossbow. If Shadow wanted the repeating crossbow, Nightmare would be left without both the map and the repeating crossbow.
Lin Wu looked at Shana, who whispered in his ear, "She’s probably telling the truth."
Lin Wu fell into a brief freeze, caught in thought. You’re all in it together, yet you speak from the standpoint of the base. Faced with the decision, Lin Wu was very decisive, "The repeating crossbow." Since you’re not taking the repeating crossbow with you, that’s what I’ll ask for.
Maya then said, "The map?" She wasn’t certain about the map’s drop rate, as North Town’s System Maps were quite common.
Lin Wu and Maya looked at each other and then turned to Stone, who didn’t immediately respond.
"I’ll go get the repeating crossbow. I’ll be back in half an hour, and I hope by then you’ll have made your decision, so as not to waste anyone’s time. OK?" Nightmare proposed.
"OK," Lin Wu responded. "A repeating crossbow or a map, plus a katana."
"Grass mud horse," Nightmare couldn’t hold back and cursed, damned King of Shadows, son of a bitch.
Lin Wu replied, "You can move against my uncle if you want, but you’ll have to throw in another spray gun."
Engulfed in anger, Nightmare turned and walked away, reaching her motorcycle and mounting it. Everyone thought she was going to leave for good, but instead, Nightmare looked back and said, "See you in half an hour. Be ready with the requested items," then revved the engine and took off.
Stone gave Lin Wu a thumbs-up, indicating that, from Nightmare’s reaction, Lin Wu’s offer hit her rock-bottom price.
Little Knife was quite dissatisfied, "You blockhead, why didn’t you ask for the spray gun as well?"
Lin Wu looked at Little Knife in astonishment. You’re even more ruthless.
Stone said, "Lin Wu, Maya, you guys need to work overtime. Anyone else need help?"
"It’s not necessary..." Before Maya could finish, she noticed Little Knife’s eager gaze and said, "No one else is needed. Having Little Knife with us is enough."
Little Knife curled her arms around Maya’s right arm, closed her eyes, leaned on her arm, and nodded contentedly over and over.
Now the question was whether to choose the repeating crossbow or the System Map. The map was intuitive, as everyone had seen it. But what exactly was a repeating crossbow? Taken literally, it was a Rapid-Fire Crossbow that could shoot arrows in rapid succession, but the details were unknown. There was no way to be sure whether the so-called repeating crossbow was a Semi-Automatic Crossbow or a Pear Blossom Storm Crossbow.
(Semi-automatic rapid-fire crossbows do not exist in reality, but they are found in many games, such as CS and Decay.)
Lin Wu and Little Knife theorized that since Nightmare wasn’t bringing the repeating crossbow, it must be powerful. As for the final choice between the repeating crossbow or the System Map, it was left to Stone and Maya to decide. During the discussion, no one considered the possibility of killing Nightmare and looting her. After everyone had expressed their opinions, the crowd dispersed, some to prepare, others to play cards, leaving the tough decision to Maya and Stone.
Maya was indecisive about this choice. The map was undoubtedly valuable for the future development of the base. First question, were there other ways to obtain the map? Second question, was the map really indispensable? Another reason for Maya’s hesitation: during their first meeting with Nightmare, the latter mentioned that her task partner coveted the repeating crossbow and had attempted to ambush her.
From this, it was clear that her partner was not interested in her other equipment, only the repeating crossbow. The partner likely witnessed the power of the repeating crossbow. Along with Lin Wu and Little Knife’s reasoning, this left Maya unable to decide. In the end, Maya handed the decision over to Stone.
Stone said, "Nightmare wasn’t telling the truth. She mentioned one task branch requires handing over the map to an NPC, and another requires showing the NPC the repeating crossbow. If she has decided to give us the map, then she would need to show the NPC the repeating crossbow. But she didn’t carry the repeating crossbow with her. Even if we chose the map, she would still need to go back and fetch the repeating crossbow. Therefore, I believe that to Nightmare, the repeating crossbow is far more valuable than the map."
Maya asked, "What about from our perspective?"
Stone called over Shana, who was nearby. "Shana, come here... We can’t decide. What’s your opinion, the repeating crossbow or the System Map?"
Shana questioned, "Why are you asking me?"
Stone replied, "You’re the Deputy Commander."
Shana chuckled and said, "I forgot I had that title. I think the only valuable part of the map is the information it marks about special bases. Take Left County as an example. There are two medium-sized bases. Our mountain-top base has abundant resources, easy to defend and hard to attack, with many available building units. The Garage Base’s feature is an auto repair shop, which is a special building that we need to use a Universal Building Card to construct. Another feature is that it provides an increase in fuel every day."
Shana continued, "What I mean is there is no perfect base; each one has its own characteristics. The three major bases in Left County are the fire station, the baseball field, and the sawmill. We’ve already obtained a lot of information. I still think we should take the repeating crossbow."
