Chapter 344 - Chapter 344 Chapter 68 I Want a Child

Chapter 344: Chapter 68 I Want a Child Chapter 344: Chapter 68 I Want a Child On the balcony, a cool breeze was stirring, and the night sky blanketed Los Angeles with twinkling lights. Julia, clad in only panties and an unbuttoned shirt, wrapped her arms around herself and silently gazed at the night scene as her hair gently fluttered in the wind.

“What are you looking at, darling?” Adrian walked out from the room inside, wrapped his arms around her from behind, and took a deep breath on her hair. He was almost completely naked, wearing only a pair of underwear.

“Nothing much, just wanted to take a look,” Julia said indifferently, grabbing his hand that was around her waist.

“Really?” Adrian’s voice carried a hint of teasing, “Then let me guess… You’re thinking, ‘That girl isn’t so talented; she’s just got a better figure. Why did she get the role?'”

“Her acting is alright,” Julia said insincerely, “And she’s good at making friends. I have a decent relationship with her.”

“Yes, yes, but that was before today,” Adrian laughed, “You know, in the scene where both of you were vying for the male lead’s attention, the performance from you two was simply perfect. Everyone on set was full of praise.”

Finally, Julia turned her head around and glared fiercely at Adrian, as if she wanted to lunge forward and bite him, her eyes blazing with fire – obviously, she was reminded of another rivalry.

At that time, it was really interesting. Adrian was chatting with Cameron; they hadn’t seen each other for a long time, and they had quite a competitive friendship, naturally appearing quite close. It wasn’t long before Julia came over with a forced smile. In the beginning, Cameron greeted her warmly, but after Julia subtly reprimanded her, Cameron quickly caught on to something, and then the two women began a veiled verbal battle amidst insincere pleasantries.

It could be called a battle, yet it was all smiles without a hint of anger, and their words seemed quite ordinary. If Adrian hadn’t been involved, he would likely have thought, just like everyone else, that they were having a pleasant conversation. Indeed, war between women is extraordinary.

However, that bit of friendship formed during filming ended right there, and the only gain was that in the following scenes, both of them put their best acting forward, earning more than one round of applause on set.

“Alright, Julia,” Adrian whispered hotly into her ear, “Is it really necessary to fuss over those things? In my opinion, the taste of your lips is far better than hers… Ouch!”

Julia pulled back her elbow, her face expressionless, but her ears still turned slightly red. Pretending to rub his side, Adrian chuckled quietly to himself. Sometimes such a small verbal transgression can increase intimacy–after all, being a gentleman depends on timing and circumstances. They returned to Julia’s Beverly Hills villa, not the one in Santa Monica, and she couldn’t wait to undress once they entered the bedroom. Why would she get upset over that comment?

Of course, Adrian was well aware of the conflicting feelings inside Julia. It all came down to saying one thing but meaning another. Women can be somewhat affected, and though Julia had faced setbacks, her understanding of certain things was quite unlike Monica’s. But with all the schemes Adrian had employed, coupled with his attractiveness, she had long fallen for him.

As long as Julia didn’t have too much contact with other women, maintaining a situation where they were aware of each other but never interacted, she would only occasionally throw a small tantrum. As for Monica, she was an exception – being able to take them both to bed had a lot to do with Monica’s own influence in addition to luck.

“That’s not nice, Julia. Am I not complimenting you?” Adrian said in a deliberately aggrieved tone.

“Tell me the truth, Ed,” Julia suddenly turned around, lifted her chin, and looked at him with a cold sneer, “While on set, were you planning to get both her and me in bed together?”

“No,” Adrian replied without hesitation.

Julia was a bit surprised, but then she raised an eyebrow, “Do you really think I’d believe that?”

“You are different, Julia,” Adrian gazed into her eyes, “Cameron and I were just fooling around, but you, I want to have you, inside and out. I want to keep you by my side, hold you in my arms, see you whenever I want. I want to tie you to me tightly, and never let go!”

Only he could say the word “fooling around” so casually, but with that domineering and almost unreasonable proclamation that followed, the casualness just seemed like a backdrop.

“You’ve probably said that to plenty of women, haven’t you?” Julia snorted coldly, but her head tilted away, and the rapid rise and fall of her chest betrayed something: as unreasonable as the words were, they indeed had an effect on her.

Sometimes, such words can provoke a woman’s reaction more easily than sweet nothings, especially for the stronger ones. So Adrian didn’t answer her rhetorical question. Instead, he kissed her on the cheek, “Alright, Julia, change your clothes. Let’s go out to eat; you must be hungry after all that exercise.”

No one’s success is accidental, even for actors who could skyrocket to fame with one good role. Without solid skills and a willingness to work hard, the higher they rise, the harder they fall. But that’s not to say luck isn’t important. Many people owe their success to good fortune, and there are far too many examples to list.

At that moment, Mark Ruffalo felt his luck had turned. After rubbing his eyes, he pushed his companion with force, “Allen, Allen, help me look, am I seeing things?”

“What now? Did you see Jack Nicholson with girls on both arms?” Allen Luther joked as he yawned from the driver’s seat. When he craned his head to look in the direction Mark was gazing, his eyes first squinted, then widened substantially: “Is that… Adrian Cowell and Julia Roberts?!”

“Yes, that’s right, it’s them!” Mark exclaimed excitedly as he slapped the steering wheel, “God, today must be my lucky day. I can’t believe I’ve run into them again.”

“No, no, no, it should be, they are our lucky stars,” Allen seized the opportunity to show he also had brains. “Look, when we ran into them two years ago, we made a fortune, but we never caught such news again afterwards. Otherwise, we should be sitting in an office by now. We can’t miss this chance.”

“Of course, I know it’s an opportunity, you don’t need to remind me. All you have to do is drive well,” Mark said discontentedly. In his view, his partner was good for nothing but driving. He couldn’t take good photos, wasn’t observant – although his own observation skills weren’t much better – and he had a huge appetite! If it weren’t for the fact that no one else would partner with him and he didn’t want to work alone, he would have kicked this guy out a long time ago.

“Look, they’re leaving!” Seeing Mark was about to go on a long rant, Allen hurriedly pointed at the two people on the street and shouted.

“Damn it! I haven’t even taken the photos!” Mark yelled, lifting his camera to take pictures, but unfortunately, the two targets had already gotten into their car and started the engine. Amidst the clicking sounds, all he managed to capture were photos of the car.

“Follow them! Follow them! If you lose them, I’ll kill you!” Mark then started yelling and shaking Allen.

“All right! If you want to keep up with them, don’t touch me!” Allen certainly didn’t want to see this hard-won opportunity slip away, so he immediately started the car, stepped on the gas, and followed behind the target with the steering wheel in hand.

When they first, out of sheer luck, captured the kissing photo of Adrian and Julia, they had their moment of glory. Unfortunately, they couldn’t keep up the momentum. They just weren’t cut out to be paparazzi; they hadn’t caught any substantive news for months, and the tabloid they worked for wasn’t a big one either, so once again they became nobodies.

“I studied journalism and communications in college, for God’s sake! Can’t I even do a simple job like this?!” While in pursuit, Mark couldn’t help but howl in complaint, showing just how resentful and disgruntled he was.

Before long, the target car finally drove into the villa, and naturally, Mark and his colleague couldn’t follow inside; they stopped outside instead. Everything went smoothly on the way, without being discovered by the two in front–just think about it, who would expect a car driving so erratically that it might crash at any moment to be filled with paparazzi.

“See where this is, Allen. Is it Julia’s house or Adrian’s?” Mark said aloud while fiddling with his camera.

“Don’t rush me; I’m looking,” Allen said, quickly flipping through the paparazzi handbook he brought along, then he suddenly shouted, “It’s Julia Roberts’s, no doubt about it, look!”

He passed the information to Mark, who compared the photos in the handbook with the building in front of them under the dim car lights. Then Mark’s face lit up with excitement, “Yes! That’s right! It’s Julia’s villa! Fantastic, we’re going to catch a big scoop again, let those who laughed at us go to hell!”

But just as he raised his camera, he let out a miserable yell, “Damn it! Were they just kissing?! Why couldn’t I have picked up the camera sooner! Why did I miss such a great opportunity?”

“Stop screaming, Mark! Just take the pictures! If you dawdle any longer, they’ll be inside the room!”

“I know, I know, I’m taking them! Don’t disturb me!”

“Hey, do you see? They look very intimate.”

“Of course, if they’re hugging each other like that and there’s nothing going on, that would be absolutely impossible!”

Afterward, the news that “Julia Roberts and Adrian Cowell rekindle their past” quickly appeared in the major media. The small paper that had reported the couple dating two years prior once again attracted a lot of attention, and its sales surged once again.

People began to chatter about the duo’s relationship once more; gossip and scandals were always things the public loved to hear and see, the more famous the subjects, the better, and they didn’t care how true the news was.

Moreover, in the past few months, Adrian had been rumored to be involved with both Sophie and Gwyneth, though those two rumors didn’t have solid evidence like they did now–with the media publishing several photos of the two embracing in the courtyard of Julia’s villa, and even without a kiss, the content was enough to prove a lot of points–yet such a love triangle still greatly fascinated people.

The tabloids, even more so, added fuel to the fire; based on the content of the photos, they could easily embellish and write a whole slew of exaggerated stuff. Saying Adrian was a playboy was putting it mildly; many tabloids went so far as to say he was a heartless playboy, juggling several women at once and playing with the emotions of Julia and others!

This was indeed no small allegation, so much so that during the early days of May, the print media were all talking about it. Yet both parties involved had not responded to it, even in the face of journalists’ questions they both invariably showed a disdainful expression.

“Think about it, gentlemen, can a few photos really explain everything? Use your heads, don’t assume that everything others say is true.” Adrian even said mockingly.

The tabloids were unrestrained, saying whatever they wanted as long as they didn’t cross the line, but the major newspapers cared about credibility and needed more concrete evidence before drawing conclusions. In fact, the editor-in-chief of the tabloid that first published the story had given Mark and Allen, the two “heroes” responsible, quite a tongue-lashing over the past few days.

“Don’t you guys know what you’re supposed to do?!” the infuriated editor roared. “Since you’ve tracked them to the villa and taken the photos, why couldn’t you just wait outside overnight and take a few more when they came out?!”

Mark and Allen felt very wronged; they watched as the two went inside, they saw the lights of the villa go out, figured Adrian definitely wouldn’t leave halfway through, so they ran off to a bar to have a drink or two. But once they started, they couldn’t stop, and it wasn’t until daylight that they sobered up, and so…

Angry as they were, what was done was done and couldn’t be undone. Besides, they were a tabloid; even if they had gotten the photos, the major newspapers would reap more benefits. They might as well continue to embellish the story with the pictures.

Although this scandal seemed to make a big fuss, Adrian’s backyard wasn’t on fire, after all, the few women who were with him knew what he was like. But various teases and mockeries were inevitable, especially Kate, who took advantage of her pregnant condition to give him a hard time in little ways, until she was properly taken care of in bed.

Regarding this matter, Adrian felt quite helpless. He believed he had been very careful, and he had not been recognized before. He didn’t expect to capsie in the gutter, and what’s more, it was the same guy who had photographed him getting intimate with Julia two years ago. He really didn’t know what to say.

Fortunately, he had initially planned to lure Julia to Monica’s house, but he abandoned that plan after probing during dinner. In hindsight, he was relieved he didn’t act on it, otherwise, it would have been trouble. He didn’t mind these things being exposed, but he had to consider his women, right?

It looked like he needed to think of a way to deal with it again. Adrian thought to himself that the guy had got news from him twice, both times by coincidence, but it was hard to say he wouldn’t try for a third.

As grateful as he was, from another perspective, it also made him very dejected.

In the dim room, after the shrill, excited screams had subsided, a voluptuous body collapsed onto Adrian, followed by constant panting.

“Do you have something on your mind, Monica?” he asked.

Monica suddenly stopped her movements, looking at him somewhat silently as if unsure how to speak.

“Tell me, you’re my treasure,” Adrian said.

“Ed,” Monica finally spoke, hugging him tighter, with eyes that didn’t blink staring at him, “I think… I think I want a baby!” (To be continued.
