Chapter 307: Chapter 34 Family Matters Chapter 307: Chapter 34 Family Matters “Your new car?” Charlize gave Kate’s red Maserati a smirk as she asked.
Having just gotten out of the car, Kate was stunned for a moment before nodding, “Yes, new car.”
“I have one too, a silver one, a reward for my work, too bad I don’t have much time to drive it,” Charlize shrugged nonchalantly as she spoke, as if discussing trivial matters of life.
Kate’s expression immediately darkened, but she quickly flashed a smile, “You must really push yourself at work.”
The words “work” and “push yourself” were uttered with emphasis, coupled with her slightly mocking smile and ironically sincere tone, even Charlize couldn’t help but twitch her mouth.
“Isn’t it rare for you to come here when Ed isn’t around, what’s up?” Charlize offered Kate a glass of water after letting her into the house. Hearing her words, Kate looked surprised, “Wasn’t Ed supposed to be back yesterday?”
“Yesterday?” Charlize blinked, then let out a light chuckle as realization hit, “Ed called last night, he might be a day late coming back, I’m very sorry I didn’t inform you, Kate.”
The first part of her statement seemed fine, but the last sentence was very unpleasant to Kate, as Charlize spoke with an entitled tone, as if she was the lady of the house.
“Was something holding him back?” Kate took a deep breath in secret, maintaining a neutral tone.
“What else could it be, probably because he was having more fun with the new woman, so he wanted to stay another day,” Charlize shrugged casually, a look of indifference on her face.
“New… woman?” Kate frowned, grinding her teeth involuntarily, and her hands unknowingly clenched into fists, tightly gripped, “Are you talking about… Liv Tyler?”
“Liv Tyler? Don’t joke, Kate, Liv has been dating him for a long time; can she still be considered new?” Charlize started to laugh lightly. She was originally planning to tease Kate a bit longer, but when she saw the resentment in her expression, she felt an inexplicable sense of sympathy.
“Gwyneth Paltrow,” Charlize quickly said the name, “Ed probably met her at the end of last year, but they only got together now. Gwyneth’s father, Bruce, is a TV producer and her mother, Blythe, is quite a famous actress. She’s also an actress and has been in five films over three years without much impact, so…”
She stopped there and gestured to Kate as if to say “you know what I mean.” Kate bit her lip; her hands clenched into fists were slightly shaking, not sure what to say next. She was not unaware of Adrian’s women, including the one from the restaurant rescue, and the girl Sarah Michelle Gellar, with whom she had a decent relationship; Adrian had promised her that he would never hide anything as long as she asked.
A bunch of bitches! Kate cursed inwardly, but she soon realized that she seemed to be one of them, and her expression turned to one of disappointment. I’m such a fool, I must have been out of my mind to come back to this bastard! She sighed inwardly, pinched the bridge of her nose, and was about to get up to leave, but upon catching Charlize’s mocking gaze, she immediately halted.
Kate really disliked that look from Charlize, she did not know why, but she just did–not exactly hate, just dislike–probably because Charlize seemed to always know something or maybe that domineering attitude she had previously put on. Anyway, Kate withdrew her forward-leaning body to make it look more like she was just adjusting her posture.
“Since her father is a producer and her mother is a well-known actress, then why would she want…” Kate, eager to change the subject, said after sipping her coffee, only to be met with a strange look from Charlize.
“Did I say something wrong?” Kate frowned.
“Oh my God, haven’t you learned anything useful from Ed?” Charlize asked amusedly, her tone of astonishment as if she had discovered a new continent, “He really kept you well protected.”
Kate’s face had already darkened, but upon hearing the last remark, she froze.
“Do you know what’s most important for an actor, Kate?” Charlize continued unabated, “It’s not connections, not acting skills, not fame but–opportunity! Connections can be made, skills can be honed, fame can be built, but all these are based on one thing–opportunity! When people praise an actor, they often say that he or she made the role, but that’s wrong. The correct way to say it should be the other way around–it’s always the role that makes the actor, not the actor who makes the role!”
“No no no, that’s not right,” Kate shook her head and said, “For instance… for instance, Vivien Leigh in ‘Gone with the Wind’ and ‘A Streetcar Named Desire’, or… Marlon Brando in ‘The Godfather’, they are all irreplaceable!”
“Unfortunately, you’ve just proved that point, Kate,” Charlize laughed. “You say that because you’ve accepted the images they portrayed, so when someone mentions that someone else could play the role just as well or even better, you subconsciously reject it in your mind. If initially, it had been someone else who portrayed these characters and performed brilliantly, and if today someone told you that Marlon Brando could have played The Godfather even better, you’d say the same thing, Kate. There are many talented actors in the world, the difference is that some seize opportunities and thus succeed, while others do not and end up shooting stars. That is why it is said: no one is irreplaceable.”
Kate pursed her lips and stopped speaking.
“Do you know why Ed is called the Miracle Director, why so many people flock to him? It’s simple, because the movies he produces and picks are successful!” Charlize made a gesture, “Regardless of the movie’s genre. John Travolta is the best proof; he missed countless opportunities that could have taken him to higher levels, ending up where he is until he grabbed the olive branch that Ed extended.”
Saying this, she straightened up, her smile carrying a hint of profound meaning: “Thus, no actor, director, or producer would refuse his invitation; so, to gain his favor, they all go to great lengths.”
“This is… this is so chaotic, I’ve never thought… never thought about this…” Kate covered her forehead.
“That’s why I say he has sheltered you well,” Charlize shrugged. “You should know, things are better now. From the 1930s to the 1970s, Hollywood was even more chaotic, those well-known actresses at that time… hehe… you know, I often come across this information at work, if you ever want to see it…”
“Enough, Charli, enough,” Kate raised her hand, “You also said, things are much better now.”
“Of course, it’s more open now, no need to hide it, and with the movements of the 70s, it’s even easier for people to accept.” Charlize laughed, then her expression turned reminiscent, “But there are places just as chaotic as before–did Ed ever tell you what I did before I became his secretary?”
“No,” Kate shook her head, “I never asked, and so he didn’t say, although he definitely would have if I had asked.”
“He really holds you dearly.” Charlize then said, her tone slightly envious but quickly she resumed talking about herself: “I was in Ballet for a long time and also modeled for a few days. These industries are more chaotic than the entertainment industry. My stint as a model was short, so I know not much, but compared to actors, the competition for models is much fiercer and more random. Lighting technicians and photographers are the ones who most easily get involved with women, as lighting and photos are most important to models. As for ballet, there is only ever one lead; if you’re not the lead, you’re always just a background dancer, so many unsuccessful ballet dancers are quite distressed, sometimes they comfort each other…”
“Wait, you mean… they were… lesbians?” Kate, hearing this for the first time, widened her eyes.
“No, not really, they just wanted to alleviate loneliness, or were curious about the same sex, or simply tired of men.” Charlize spread her hands. “Who knows?”
“So you…” Kate cautiously asked.
“I didn’t. I was only 15 at that time, but I accidentally saw it happen a few times.” Charlize said in a relaxed tone and then looked into Kate’s eyes, a thoughtful smile crossing her face.
Kate, rubbing her cheeks, didn’t notice this.
“Alright, after all this talk, I’ve forgotten there’s something I need to do for Ed.” Charlize suddenly said. “Can you help me out, Kate, it’s in his bedroom.”
“In the bedroom? What is it?” Kate asked immediately.
“You’ll find out once you go.” Charlize didn’t wait for her to continue questioning and stood up to go upstairs. Kate, confused, shrugged and followed her.
The two women quickly arrived at Adrian’s bedroom, which was as tidy and bright as before.
“Where is it?” Kate turned around the bedroom, walked to the balcony to have a look, then turned her head back to Charlize.
Bang, Charlize who had just closed the door, smiled slightly and walked directly in front of Kate, looking her up and down. Just as Kate was about to speak, Charlize cradled her face, and moist lips pressed against hers, Charlize’s tongue deftly probing her mouth.
Kate subconsciously responded to the other’s demands, only waking up after their bodies tangled several times. Panicked, she tried to push Charli away, but before she could move, she was pushed onto the bed.
“What do you think you’re doing!” she yelled angrily, struggling to get up, but Charli pressed down on her immediately.
“Nothing, just… curious,” Charli said excitedly, pinning Kate by the shoulders and straddling her abdomen, looking down at her breathlessly.
“Wait, are you saying…”
“Oh, sorry, I lied.”
“Stop it! I’m not into women!”
“Neither am I; I’m just curious, I just wanted to try, that’s all.”
“Damn it, you can’t do this.”
“Unfortunately, I can, and now you’re under me, Kate. I think Ed wouldn’t mind; in fact, he might enjoy this.”
“Please, let me go, Charli, I think I heard something.”
“Don’t try to distract me, Kate, oh, your lips are so delicious.”
Just then, the bedroom door suddenly opened, and a familiar voice rang out, “Charli, are you…”
Everyone was stunned by the sudden development; it took a while for the man at the door to politely bow, “Sorry, am I interrupting? If so, please allow me to leave; you can continue.”
After saying this, he walked out, but before the two women in bed could recover, he walked back in with a mischievous smile and boldly started unbuttoning his shirt, “By the way, if you don’t mind, may I join in?!”
“Ed, wait, I can explain…” Charli barely called out before Adrian pinned her onto Kate, and in two quick motions, he yanked her trousers down to her knees.
“Ed!” Charli shouted, and soon her mouth was covered, muffled moans escaping.
If Kate had been a bit smarter and resisted along with Charli, perhaps what followed wouldn’t have happened. Adrian was quite adept in this regard, but clearly, Kate was upset about what Charli had done earlier, and filled with thoughts of retaliation, she neglected other aspects.
Clearly, Charli had acted earlier to escape a difficult situation, so Kate found herself caught in the same dilemma. Laughter, screams, and panting echoed in the bedroom as Adrian kissed Kate and Charli in turn, and all three became completely entangled and began their wild revelry.
Until twilight, when the bedroom grew dim, did their passionate outburst gradually subside.
“Hey, babes, you all right?” After turning on the bedside lamp and brightening the room, a naked Adrian sat up lazily against the headboard, looking around before jokingly saying.
To his left, Charli didn’t speak. She lay exhausted, clinging to Adrian, her hand resting on his chest, the rose color still on her skin not yet faded, her eyes closed, and a satisfied smile on her lips, seemingly relishing the passion they had shared. She wasn’t as thoroughly explored by Adrian as Kate had been, compounded by Kate’s relentless aggression.
On the right, Kate, although her skin was also flushed and her eyes still dazed, had regained some composure after resting. She glanced at Adrian but didn’t respond, instead turning away and walking towards the bathroom, wearing nothing, her slightly staggering gait making her retreating figure all the more enticing.
Adrian shrugged, kissed the lying Charli, then followed Kate into the bathroom just before she closed the door.
“What are you doing here?!” Kate asked, somewhat angrily.
“What else, taking a shower,” Adrian replied with a smile as he closed the door and wrapped his arms around Kate, heading towards the shower, “Don’t we always take a shower after we make love?”
Kate seemed about to say something but shivered under the spray of the water and instinctively held Adrian tight until the water warmed.
After a complex look at Adrian, she sighed, “I really am… God, I never thought I would… you’re such an asshole, Ed!”
“You’ve said that many times before, babe,” Adrian teased.
“Don’t call me babe! I’m not your babe!” Kate yelled, punching him hard, hesitated for a moment, then bit her lip and asked in a low voice, “You and… and other women…”
“What?” Adrian feigned ignorance.
Seeing his infuriating demeanor, Kate screamed again, “I’m asking you if you’ve ever had threesomes with other women!”
“With Charli? Of course not, but I did once with Monica and Julie,” Adrian answered without hesitation, his gaze sincere.
Kate stared at him in shock, then suddenly swung her fists at him, splashing water with every punch.
“Why can’t you just lie to me!” she yelled angrily.
“Because I promised you I’d tell the truth whenever you asked,” Adrian replied calmly, pulling Kate into his arms. She struggled briefly, then buried her head in his shoulder with a long sigh.
The two embraced under the warm water until Charli’s voice interrupted, “Oh, sorry, did I disturb you? Should I come back later?”
Despite her words, she walked straight in, wrapping her arms around Adrian from behind, smiling brightly at Kate. Kate raised an eyebrow, unflinchingly meeting Charli’s gaze.
“Alright, let’s shower, then go have dinner; I think you must be hungry.” Adrian smiled, hugging both women, one on either side, and turned the water to full blast. Despite the complicated situation, the night was still long. (To be continued. For more, please visit www.NovelFire.net. More chapters, more fun!)
