Chapter 377: Chapter 374: Deceit Realm - Buddhism Pure Land - Little Leiyin Temple

"This ’Evil Monk’ ambushed our Zhengguo Temple, killing one Yellow Seal Senior Brother and two Yin God Realm Junior Nephews.

He then continued his killing spree across nearby temples: Cloud Temple, Donglin Temple, and Bitan Temple, up until this Yellow Bamboo Temple.

Any monk who fell into his hands was not spared!"

Although he has not yet developed self-consciousness as a ’Mutated Immortal,’ his own power is roughly equivalent to that of the Earth Essence realm.

In facing Buddhist cultivators, he even gains an enormous additional boost, making it possible for even those in Divine Transformation realm to die by his hands.

Now all the Buddhist temples near Yunjing City are in constant fear, yet no one can subdue this ’Weird’ presence.

Even I, from Zhengguo Temple, the foremost temple in Yunjing, do not possess a living Green Seal Ancestor."

Monk Wu Hua, merely in the Dharma Body realm himself, did not dare to approach. Instead, he sheltered behind Wang Yuan, and shared all he knew.

The real name of this ’Weird·Evil Monk’ has long been untraceable; it’s only known that he used to be an extremely devout Buddhist when he was a mortal.

Although his family was very poor, he was extremely filial, spending all he had to care for his paralyzed mother.

Upon hearing that Buddhism’s compassion could liberate all beings, he worshiped Buddha and recited scriptures daily.

Even the scant food he managed to save was all offered to the temple to honor the Buddha.

Hoping that the Buddha would bless his mother with an early recovery.

Of all the believers, regardless of wealth or poverty, no one could compare to his devotion.

Year after year, no matter how hardworking and capable he was, apart from being spiritually rich, he remained impoverished.

And so, several years passed in this manner.

Then came a year of great famine, and all the food at home was gone.

When he thought to ask for food from the well-stocked temple, hoping that the long-worshiped Buddha would save him once, so his mother wouldn’t starve,

he was ruthlessly thrown out by the once-kind-looking monks.

Having no choice, he cut flesh from his own body to feed his mother.

But under severe poverty, his mother still could not survive; she died without seeing Buddha’s mercy.

However, following that, ten days, twenty days, thirty days... Countless days and nights passed. Fresh flesh appeared daily on his mother’s grave.

And this dutiful Buddhist devotee never appeared again.

At the same time, the world saw the rise of one specializing in killing monks... the ’Weird·Evil Monk’!

This filial son who had mutated into a fallen demon finally understood everything.

Buddhism speaks of universal salvation, and the influence of the laypeople far surpasses that of the self-cultivating Taoist sect. Sadly, this "universal salvation" is merely a shame-covering wealth-gathering ploy.

There are countless mortals in the world, but who has ever heard of anyone actually being saved by Buddha?

If you only know how to take without giving back, then I will take it myself!

Embodying the resentment towards Buddhism from countless beings, this ’Evil Monk’ is completely harmless to ordinary mortals but has since become the natural enemy of Buddhist cultivators!

As Monk Wu Hua recounted the origins of this ’Weird’ being, he couldn’t help but feel immeasurable hatred towards those corpulent, greedy-looking peers.

The misdeeds of some result in all Buddhist disciples bearing the consequences.

’Don’t let me cross paths with you, or I’ll surely send you to the Western Heaven early to enjoy the ultimate bliss!’

Fearing that Wang Yuan, this life-saving straw, might fall through, Monk Wu Hua immediately added:

"The Sect Master has said, if Brother Wang can take care of this ’Weird’ being, even if it’s just to quiet it for a while.

All the resources, manpower, and provisions of the three hundred and twenty-eight temples that stem from Zhengguo Temple near Yunjing City will be at your disposal.

They will lend all their strength to assist the Imperial Dragon Guard in suppressing the uprising demons and deceitful ghosts!"

The reason they turned to Wang Yuan, a friend they’d known for just a few days, was not only because distant waters cannot quench a near thirst,

but also because the two-hundred-year-old reputable banner of the Imperial Dragon Guard was indeed shining bright.

Even though people of the side doors admit they lack their kind of self-sacrificing courage, they still have to give a thumbs up to such individuals.

Initially assisted by ’Taiyin Xuanbing Dao’ in establishing the Imperial Dragon Guard by the Great Yan Ancestor, even today, many disciples from the Tao Lineage of the ’Nine Soldiers’ are gaining experience within it.

After the central collapse, it has nearly become an outer organization of ’Nine Soldiers.’

And now, within the Imperial Dragon Guard.

Apart from the many connections of Nie Renxiong, the former Minister Talismanic Treasure, there were many disciples and descendents of Old Master Wang’s ’good friends’ within it.

This made Old Master Wang, who was just a newly joined curse-wielding Colonel of the Imperial Dragon Guard a year ago, not only unusually senior in today’s Imperial Dragon Guard, but also exceptionally influential!

In such a critical moment, why would the monks hesitate to cling to such powerful support?

And Wang Yuan himself wanted to unite this group of ’small matters flexible, big issues uncompromised’ side door forces, which was mutually beneficial.

Nodding his head solemnly, he assured:

"Put your mind at ease, Taoist Fellow Wu Hua, I will do my utmost!"

At this moment.

Perhaps sensing the monk’s aura again,

in the Buddhist Hall, a seemingly kind and benevolent monk, reciting the deceitful sutra, his shadow slightly trembled, splitting from one into two, two into four, four into eight...

In the blink of an eye, countless bizarre dancing demons were formed.

The ’Evil Monk’ slowly stood up and stepped out of the Buddhist Hall.

On each human bone Buddha bead hanging around his neck, there was a twisted monk’s face, all furiously chanting:

"Kneeling before Buddha for three thousand years, yet never seeing Buddha’s heart grow merciful.

Is it the dust veiling Buddha’s eyes, or simply because I had not offered enough incense money?"

Buddha sat high in the heavens, never once opening his eyes to the mortal world.

Misfortunes abound below with hearts growing cold, never catching a glimpse of Buddha’s trace!"

As these words fell, countless deceitful shadows behind the Evil Monk were filled with inexplicable sorrow and anger, revealing human forms.

They were numerous monks, tall, short, fat, thin... who had died at his hands.

These monks, whose deaths were a tragic sight, continued chanting along with the Buddha Beads:

"Buddha said he could ferry all beings, but only if beings honour him with money.

A common chant for ferrying beings, yet he had never truly ferried anyone.

Buddha’s body originally was not greedy, then why the aversion to candlesticks at the incense table?

Buddha preached equality among all beings, yet why divide them into ranks of six and nine?"

After repeating these lines, those ordinary monks transformed into the Dharma Protector Jialan, Heavenly Dragon Eight Phases, Arhats, Bodhisattvas...

All adorned in glowing treasures, holding an array of colorful gold and silver valuables, jointly guarding behind the Evil Monk.

The blood-stained treasures, alongside monks and Buddha beads, continued chanting:

"The wicked prosper through past virtues, while the kind suffer troubles from past sins.

One repays past sins in this life and can be wicked in the next.

Instant Buddhahood bestows blessings on the wicked, while the righteous face eighty-one tribulations.

The causality of three lives deceives all beings, with the reincarnation of six paths aiding tyranny."

Suddenly, a radiant Buddha’s light sprawled out, unfurling a pure land of Buddha before them.

It touched the high skies, rooted in the Sumeru Vein. Peaks arranged cleverly, rocks jutting unevenly. Beneath cliffs were precious grasses and strange flowers, alongside winding paths fragrant with purple Ganoderma and orchids.

It was indeed a divine abode, a unique sight in the world.

This magnificent spectacle of Buddha’s land, together with the blood-stained treasures, monks, and Buddha beads, continued chanting:

"Buddha said benevolence is inherent, yet refuses disrespect.

One naturally follows the path if their heart harbors goodwill, why then kneel before Buddha pleading for mercy?

Today, Buddhism is heavy with demonic barriers, showing a kind face but a devilish heart deceiving the mortal world.

My heart harbors its own bright moon, unyielding to hell and unbowed to Buddha!"

In an instant, brilliant lights erupted, and blossoms bloomed from the sky.

In this vast land of Buddha, every flower, every grass, every brick, every stone, resonated with the Evil Monk’s last cries before his death:

"Buddha is not greedy; why then must people offer him tributes? Buddha does not covet vanity; why then must people kneel before him?

Buddha is not malevolent; why then can’t he tolerate any disrespect? Buddha said all beings are equal; why then are there different ranks for Bodhisattvas and Arhats?

We offer our respects and burn incense seeking to avert disasters. Yet Buddha says that people have many fates, predestined by heaven, an edict that cannot be defied.

Then, what is the use of worshiping you?

If you only hold your position without merit, then it is I who will become the Buddha!"

"I am the Buddha!"

"I am the Buddha!"

Amidst echoing voices, the Evil Monk had vanished without a trace, leaving only a massive golden Buddha seated on a lotus throne at the center of the pure land of Buddha nation.

He was adorned with the seven treasures of Buddhism: gold, silver, coloured glaze, coral, giant clams, red pearls, and agate.

His body radiated brilliant golden light, too dazzling for the eyes!

However, this "gold" was not the everlasting "gold," but the gold of material wealth!

And there, before Wang Yuan and his companions, stood the grand hall that boldly bore the name "Little Leiyin Temple."

The Evil Monk had trapped millions of monks in the Deceit Realm, amassed vast treasures, and sealed himself off, self-proclaiming as Buddha.

"Homage to the Supreme Buddha, Evil Monk!"

Behind him, Dharma Protector Jialan, Arhats, and Bodhisattvas, all equally radiant in golden light inscribed with wealth, declared Buddha’s name in thunderous echoes.

Greedy, vainglorious, wicked, only saving those with money...

With Buddhahood being so accessible, why can’t I be one too?

"This..."

Had Wang Yuan and his companions not witnessed this entire transformation, they might have thought they had arrived in the Western Heaven prematurely.

Yet, beholding such a golden splendor, whether believers or not, everyone was inevitably silenced.

No wonder the Evil Monk was attracted to the Taoist Skill of the "Six Desires of the Mortal World;" clearly, they were birds of a feather, all having fallen into the money trap.

The Buddha, with a golden sneer, now surrounded by Dharma Protector Jialan who had turned into a Chang Ghost, bellowed at the three:

"Why do you not bow to the true Buddha?!"

"Why not bow?"

A force bursting with the wealthy gold of the Nightmare Suppressing Power bore down upon them.

But Xin Xiaowei stepped forward, her eyes equally flashing with light.

This was the gaze from... poverty.

Poverty God glares, utterly impoverished!

"Break! Break for me!"
