Chapter 51: Execution

Chapter 51

Test wasn’t the right word

The room they dragged him into wasn’t a training chamber.

It was a cage.

A circular arena sealed in shifting metal, humming faintly with containment sigils. No corners. No exits. The air thrummed like it had a heartbeat.

"You get five minutes," Ezren’s voice echoed from a hovering platform above. "No rules. No mercy. Survive or die."

Ronan’s system pinged

Kill Directive Detected: Survival Trial Initiated

WARNING: Opponent Threat Level – S rank

They weren’t wasting time.

Vex dropped in first an eruption of red-orange heat with no warning. The second her boots hit the tiles, her system detonated around her like a sunburst.

"Burn Field."

Everything in a five-meter radius became molten. Air shimmered. Tile turned to sludge.

Ronan flung himself back, but the heat kissed his arm anyway, his skin sizzled and blistered, but his expression remained emotionless.

Damage Detected – Burn Level 2

Regeneration Activated

Instantly, the burnt part regenerated, and that was the first part that shocked them. They had heard he had multiple abilities, but if healing was one of them, then all they’ll have to do was break him so hard till he couldn’t heal anymore.

"Okay," Ronan muttered, rolling his shoulders lazily. "We’re doing this."

Veins throbbed black for a flash as his skin finished regenerating, and he didn’t wait.

He launched forward with a burst of gravity suppression, using spatial displacement to sidestep the smoldering zone and land a flying kick toward her blind spot.

She turned, too fast.

Vex caught his leg mid-spin with a clawed gauntlet glowing molten, twisted, and hurled him into the wall.

The arena cracked.

He hit hard, tasted blood.

Then Roan landed behind him, no sound, no warning. Just a hulking shadow with an axe almost the size of a refrigerator.

It came down.

Ronan telekinetically yanked himself out of the way at the last second, the floor split open, a crater forming.

Roan’s system activated.

"Weight of Judgment."

The more pressure Ronan applied, the heavier Roan’s attacks became, exponentially.

"You hit like a rookie," Roan grunted. "Let me help you die faster."

Ronan wiped blood from his mouth and triggered Shield of the Fallen, a blue shimmer ignited across his skin.

He surged forward again. His adaptive strength flared as he landed a flurry of rapid strikes on Roan’s side, trying to find a weak point.

Nothing. Roan barely flinched.

Then Vex was back, hurling a wave of searing flame at them both. Ronan triggered spatial displacement, disappearing just before the fire hit.

He reappeared midair, above them both, he felt like his lungs was burning as he struggled to breath, his system was barely keeping up with the constant regeneration from burns because he was still using other abilities.

He reached out with telekinetics, yanked a chunk of metal from the arena wall, and sent it spiraling at Vex.

She ducked.

Right into Roan’s axe.

They collided, not clean, but enough to stagger them both.

Ronan landed hard, panting.

Ezren was still watching with a smirk, still perched above, not moving.

"Fun," Ezren called, grinning. "You’re bleeding. That’s good. Pain makes you honest."

Then Ezren dropped.

He landed without a sound. No energy. No aura. Just silence, a vacuum of power.

Ronan’s system immediately notified him of danger.

ALERT: Unknown Entity Detected

System Interface Disrupted – Passive Lag Detected

WARNING: Adversary May Be System Immune

Suggested Action: Flee

But instead of fleeing like the system warned, Ronan smirked.

Ezren raised a hand.

System Activation: Mindlock

Mental Freeze Detected – Processing Delay (3.2s)

Everything inside Ronan slowed.

His heartbeat. His thoughts. His breath.

Ezren was in front of him. Then behind. Then beside.

"You think you’re unstoppable?" Ezren whispered. "I’ll break you, I’ll show you your place here in squad one. We’re not amateurs like the rest, understand."

Ronan tensed, he could sense the raw power exuding from Ezren, this man was no fucking joke.

His system quickly responded like it was screaming.

Emergency Protocol: Blood Sacrifice Mode – Available

Risk: 18% Organ Failure | 35% Cognitive Disruption

Accept?

"Yes," Ronan rasped. "Give it."

The detonation was instant.

Blood exploded from every pore, vaporized into crimson spikes midair. Ezren dodged, sliding back with unnatural grace, a faint smile tugging at his lips.

But Ronan could move again.

He charged. Adaptive strength doubled. Speed kicked into overdrive. His body screamed as organs pushed to their limits.

He threw kicks, punches...and everything he could, but somehow....Ezren doged everything, it felt like he could see Ronan’s attack long before they hit.

Trait Evolution in Progress...

Unlocked: Bloodforged Claws (Temporary)

System Update: Pain Tolerance Increased by 40%

Bone razors extended from his knuckles. He slashed. Ezren ducked. Countered. Struck, and Ronan barely blocked it with his shield.

Still, it connected.

Ronan stumbled.

Then Roan was up again, and Vex was already moving in from the side. They weren’t holding back anymore.

This wasn’t a trial. This was execution.

Ronan activated gravity suppression, created a micro-burst under Roan’s feet, and launched him upward into Vex’s incoming Burn Field.

Screams.

The two collided again, Vex cursed, her heat backfiring, burning both of them.

Ronan fell to a knee.

Blood soaked his shirt. His vision swam.

He’d lost count of the fractures. The burns. The internal bleeding.

These people were so damn strong, they were the top S ranks for a reason.

Ezren approached again — slower this time.

New skill

Kinetic Ghost" (Rank B)

Functionality Enabled

Ronan vanished for a split second, like a blur of afterimages.

He reappeared behind Ezren and slammed both claws into the man’s back.

The strike connected, barely, but Ezren twisted, grabbed Ronan’s face mid-lunge, and threw him across the arena.

Again, he hit the wall. Again, he stood.

But just as he prepared to lunge again, the voice came. "Enough!"

Smoke coiled from scorched tiles. The air was thick with blood and heat.

Vex lay crumpled at the edge of the field, her system had been diactivated.

Roan was unconscious, twitching beside a shattered chunk of wall.

Ezren stood with a cut on his cheek and back, but he was grinning, eyes sharp.

Ronan was breathing hard, and his injuries were already regenerating.

The voice crackle again from the overhead speakers.

Aldric.

"I see you all survived."

Ezren turned to the camera. "Barely, this guy is a fucking monster."
