Chapter 2562: A Friend
Chapter 2562: A Friend
The many Genesis Shamans gathered around the sculpture looked calm; there were even faint smiles on their faces. It felt unnerving.
Zu An squatted down to inspect the nearest Genesis Shaman’s body. “He's been dead for 12 to 16 hours.”
The Goddess of Wu Mountain was taken aback. “How do you know?”
Zu An replied, “His body has turned cold and stiffened. You can see marks that don’t disappear under pressure all over his body. These are signs that appear on those who have been dead for around twelve hours. Beyond that, the body will start loosening up.”
The Goddess of Wu Mountain was awed. “You’re well-educated, to know such information.”
“It’s all the wisdom of the predecessors.” Zu An smiled. There had been so many detective shows in his previous life; it wasn't that difficult to pick up bits and pieces of information. Besides, he had also picked up some things during his time as an Embroidered Envoy.
The Goddess of Wu Mountain murmured contemplatively, “I have underestimated the humans’ ability to learn.”
Sensing the Goddess of Wu Mountain’s amazed gaze, the Mermaid Queen puffed her chest up in pride, but she soon felt troubled once more. It’s a good thing that my lover is outstanding, but it’s also troublesome because he’s too outstanding, so he naturally draws in other women.
Zu An walked to the center of the crowd, where there was a Genesis Shaman who was standing instead of kneeling like the others. It looked as if he was about to bow down and pay his respects. This shaman was old, but he was more muscular than the others. His clothes were also visibly more opulent.
“He’s the Genesis Shaman race’s chieftain, Yanshan. I have met him before,” the Goddess of Wu Mountain explained with a pale face.
“The Genesis Shamans feel rather strong, as you mentioned.” Zu An could sense the valiance and strength of the Genesis Shamans even though they had already taken their last breaths.
“The experts of the Genesis Shaman race are all gathered here; this is a force to be reckoned with. What power could claim all their lives in an instant?” the Goddess of Wu Mountain wondered with a frown.
Zu An inspected the surroundings before rubbing his hands together. “Their souls are nowhere to be found. They must have died to that Myriad Souls Banner.”
“The forging of the Myriad Souls Banner must have been a success.” The Goddess of Wu Mountain turned increasingly paler. She understood what this all signified.
“Even the Myriad Souls Banner shouldn’t be able to kill so many experts without them fighting back. And you mentioned earlier that this place is guarded by a powerful protection formation!” the Mermaid Queen exclaimed.
“Indeed. The Myriad Souls Banner might be formidable, but it doesn’t have the power to quietly siphon so many souls at once. The Genesis Shamans should have had time to activate their protection formation to guard against the invader.” The Goddess of Wu Mountain contemplated. “Unless the culprit was an insider who attacked them while they were having a mass prayer.”
“Or the culprit is someone the Genesis Shamans weren’t guarded against,” Zu An added.
While they were speculating on the possibilities, a commotion suddenly echoed in the distance.
“Hm? All the Genesis Shamans are gathered here?”
“Their expressions look weird.”
“They seem to be all dead!”
The voices initially sounded confused, but they were quickly overtaken by shock.
Zu An and the others looked over.
A group had just entered the ninth level from another direction. Their leader was draped in a scarlet cloak, and his robe was embroidered with fiery auspicious clouds. A fiery-red crimson jade was fastened to his waist. He had defined facial features and deep, penetrating eyes. His eyebrows resembled flickering flames, and he wielded a copper flame axe. Flames seemed to quietly seethe around him, making him look so imposing that it was hard to look straight at him.
Zu An narrowed his eyes. He’s strong! I can feel immense pressure from him even when we’re this far away.
The group also noticed Zu An’s group. “There are survivors!”
“They aren’t Genesis Shamans.”
“Are they the culprits behind this massacre?”
...
Zu An’s eyes twitched. It was such a familiar scene. Kuafu and Xingtian also had the same misunderstanding the last time they were at the Chang residence. To avoid conflict, he quickly explained, “We just arrived here too and found them dead. May I know your names?”
Though it is a huge coincidence for them to appear here at the same time. Could they be the culprits trying to frame us?
“Empty words! We shall capture and interrogate you to get to the bottom of this!” The red-cloaked leader harrumphed. At his order, several golden-armored warriors rushed at Zu An.
Zu An was flabbergasted.
The Mermaid Queen was irked too. She began strumming her Deep Sea Harp, prompting the golden-armored warriors to fight among themselves.
Zu An was awed. These golden-armored warriors are nowhere weaker than her in terms of cultivation, so much so that she wouldn’t have been a match for them in a direct confrontation. Her powerful control and support skills make her more suited for chaotic battlefields.
The red-cloaked man’s eyebrows shot up, and he roared, “What a measly trick!”
His booming voice shook the golden-armored warriors out of their daze. The realization that someone had just made a fool out of them made the golden-armored warriors so angry that they charged at the Mermaid Queen.
“Halt!” With a wave of her sleeves, the Goddess of Wu Mountain summoned fog that stopped the golden-armored warriors. “How can you resort to violence without getting to the bottom of the matter? Are you planning to silence us because you’re the real culprits?”
“Audacious! How dare you speak to me, a celestial, like that!” The red-cloaked man was infuriated. He put down his copper axe and unleashed two waves of fire dragons toward her.
As beautiful as the Goddess of Wu Mountain was, he saw her as little more than a skeleton wearing makeup. He'd noticed that the two ladies controlled the water element, which made him the perfect match against them.
Even before the two fire dragons could reach the Goddess of Wu Mountain, the shirts and hair of the deceased Genesis Shamans began curling up.
The Goddess of Wu Mountain was taken aback. His flames are formidable! Each fire dragon harnesses terrifying destructive prowess, not to mention that this environment is disadvantageous to me. I might not be able to take this attack.
Just then, Zu An appeared before her. He quickly formed a series of hand seals and unleashed a giant lotus against the two fire dragons. This terrain greatly boosts the prowess of fire ki; I can use fire to vanquish fire.
A loud explosion ensued. The two fire dragons and the lotus disappeared at the same time. The fog hindering the golden-armored warriors’ movements was vaporized, and some nearby Genesis Shaman corpses were burnt to a crisp.
Zu An and the other frowned.
“White Lotus Flame and Phoenix Flame... I see, you possess the phoenix bloodline. No wonder you’re so arrogant!” the red-cloaked man sneered. He began rising into the air as the flames seething around him grew increasingly tangible.
Zu An’s heart skipped a beat. He suddenly recalled the Goddess of Wu Mountain’s warning. Considering how hostile he is toward phoenixes, could he be a descendant of the dragons?
Even so, this was no time to be thinking too hard. With the other party’s aura intensifying furiously, he knew he also had to go all out to survive this encounter.
Just then, a coy voice exclaimed, “Stop! He’s a friend!”
