72: Chapter 72 Good Fortune Knocks at the Door 72: Chapter 72 Good Fortune Knocks at the Door In a corner on the first floor, Zhou Ning’s hair snakes were all severed, and she was kicked away.
Her attacker pursued her, stepped on her throat in mid-air, and pinned her to the ground.
Zhou Ning’s head swelled with blood, her face flushed red as she pushed against his foot.
Unfortunately, her strength was no match for his, and her hair, which had been cut off during the fight minutes ago, had not regrown in time.
Without her hair to aid her, she was almost powerless to fight back.
“A useless pretty thing,” the man ground his heel into her throat with delight, “You players are only good for scaring people nowadays.
That Zhou Xiao kid is your brother, right?
When I’m done, I’ll stew you siblings together in a pot…
What are you laughing at?”
Zhou Ning, struggling to breathe, weakly pointed behind him.
The man whirled around, only to have a black shadow smash into his face and send him flying.
Blood sprayed from his nose, and before he hit the ground, he was yanked into the air by a foot, both his hand and foot seized, and bent backwards from his lower back.
“Crack!” The crisp sound of his spine breaking echoed aloud.
Yan Jiayu dropped the man to the ground and patted her hands before asking Zhou Ning, “Are you alright?”
“I’m okay…” Zhou Ning, ignoring the severe pain in her throat, quickly said, “He’s not dead yet, be careful…”
Today, she had suffered too many losses at the hands of the Cannibal Player.
“No big deal.” Yan Jiayu procured a flashlight from somewhere, pointed it at the man’s face, and asked seriously, “Are you a Cannibal Player?”
Unable to move with a broken spine, the man spat out a mouthful of bloody saliva and roared with hatred, “I’m from the Holy Sword Society, you won’t get away with killing me.
I have thousands of brothers, and with one call from me, they will swarm out…”
Yan Jiayu slapped him, “Young man, tell the truth.
Does your Holy Sword Society really have thousands of members?”
The man waited without speaking.
“Never learning your lesson,” Yan Jiayu shook her head, and with a thrust of her stone stick into the ground, it sunk an inch deep.
The man looked obliquely and realized immediately; he quickly said, “No, we only have sixteen, half of whom came tonight!”
“So, are you a Cannibal Player?” Yan Jiayu asked again.
“Yes…
but I didn’t want to become a Cannibal Player.
I was forced into it.
I’ve never killed anyone; others did the killing.
I just picked up the leftovers…”
“You are not being honest.” Yan Jiayu sighed.
The stick shifted and struck his temple.
In mere seconds, he was breathless.
Hearing the familiar cracking sound, Zhou Ning couldn’t help but ask, “What about the other two from the Holy Sword Society?”
“Here.” The flashlight beam shifted, and in the left corner lay two mutilated corpses.
Red and white liquid oozed from their savaged skulls, and their limbs were bent at strange angles as if they had been violently disassembled.
Zhou Ning turned her head away in distress, “Where’s Mr.
Yuan?”
“He’s outside throwing up.” Yan Jiayu walked over and helped her up, “Do you want me to carry you?”
“No, no need,” Zhou Ning quickly replied.
“Alright then.” Yan Jiayu went back to the bodies, tucked the stone stick into her belt, and grabbed one with each hand, “Let’s go, we should meet up with the others.”
Zhou Ning clutched her chest.
Just then, Yuan Yao entered from outside, and the two supported each other as they walked ahead of Yan Jiayu.
Returning to the place where they had split up, Hu Wenhao and Tian Yun had already come back.
Both were badly injured, with Tian Yun having lost an eye, but fortunately, they had succeeded in killing their targeted member of the Holy Sword Society.
“All five on the first floor are dead.” Yan Jiayu counted heads, “Has Xu Huo not come down yet?”
No sooner had she spoken than her gaze sharpened.
She grabbed her stone stick and swung it behind her, only to stop midway.
“Don’t be nervous, it’s me.” Feeling the strong gust of wind, Xu Huo stepped to the side and scoped out the scene, “Looks like you’ve already handled it.”
As he spoke, he too tossed out two bodies.
“It’s all thanks to Miss Yan,” Zhou Ning glanced at Huang Junjie, who averted his gaze and refused to look at the ground, then shifted her focus back to Xu Huo, whose expression remained unchanged.
“Have you checked the numbers?” Xu Huo asked as he began searching the dead body’s clothes.
“I forgot about that,” Yan Jiayu smacked her forehead and went to help.
The five people killed on the first floor were all Cannibal Players.
“We’re missing one person on the second floor,” Xu Huo said after confirming the numbers, then asked into his headset, “Have you found him?”
“It’s a bit strange,” Liu Jia hesitated, “It seems like that woman came back, and she’s with a man, the one who should be on the second floor.”
Xu Huo scanned the area and didn’t see the Girl in the painting; he immediately tapped on his headset, “Bring them in.”
The others were confused by his intentions, but soon they heard footsteps approaching from behind.
Yan Jiayu flashed her light; it was a middle-aged man.
He raised his hand to shield his eyes and upon seeing several figures in the dark, he couldn’t help but laugh, “So you’re all hiding here; that’s good, saves me the trouble of finding you one by one.
The key members of the Holy Sword Society’s Ting City Branch all gathered up; you guys are quite capable.”
“The members you’re talking about, are they these people?” Xu Huo took the flashlight from Yan Jiayu and shined it on the ground.
Seven corpses lay together, their deaths tragic; two were beyond recognition, but the clothes identified them as members of their Holy Sword Society.
The middle-aged man’s knees went weak, and with a fierce yet timid voice, he said, “They’re nothing.
Miss Cao is the most formidable player in our branch; her body carries poison!
Miss Cao?
Miss Cao!”
The flashlight beam returned to the man’s side, and as he called out, someone sluggishly emerged from behind a pillar, wearing a blue dress and flat shoes, with a small bag slung over her shoulder, looking pure and lovely.
The middle-aged man was stunned: Who the hell is this?
The Girl in the painting, who had lured the person outside, blinked innocently; she hadn’t done anything, just walked out, and this man had eagerly followed her.
“Who are you!” the middle-aged man shouted, “The one who came in with me was Cao Yan!”
Xu Huo gave Zhou Ning a look, and the latter immediately had her Hair Snake drag the person over and tie him up.
“What should we do with this person?”
“Let’s hand him over to the authorities and make him spit out any items first,” Xu Huo returned the flashlight to Yan Jiayu, “We had nine members from the Holy Sword Society come today; one escaped, seven died, and we caught one alive.”
“According to what we agreed upon earlier, Zhou Ning and the others won’t share any items or potions.”
Zhou Ning nodded to Hu Wenhao, who took out all the items—a single item and three potions—they had gained.
Apart from the Fishing Player, they had only killed one person that night, so that was all they had earned.
Yuan Yao took over.
“You can leave now,” Xu Huo said to Zhou Ning.
Whether it was splitting the items or dealing with the Holy Sword Society members, it didn’t much concern them.
Hu Wenhao and Tian Yun were badly injured, Zhou Ning and her brother, and Yu Xiaoyu, weren’t strong fighters; keeping them wouldn’t be helpful.
Their cooperation with Xu Huo was temporary; their goal achieved, it was time to part ways.
“Thank you for this time,” Zhou Ning said, “If there’s ever a need for help in the future, feel free to contact me.”
Xu Huo nodded, and as the four vanished into the night, he turned back to Yan Jiayu and the others, “I need to step out for a bit; we’ll discuss splitting the items when I get back.”
“We’ll wait for you,” Huang Junjie said.
“Do you need help?” Yan Jiayu asked, “That Zhao Sheng must have run back to the Holy Sword Society, right?”
“Our objective this time was just to take down the Holy Sword Society members who came to exchange the prisoners; it ends here, and the rest is no longer our concern.
I’ll be back soon after having a look,” Xu Huo walked out of the building, looking in the direction Liu Jia had indicated, indeed seeing a balloon slowly drifting in the city sky.
He took out his phone and dialed Nie Xuan’s number, “A good opportunity has knocked on our door.”
