Journey to the West: Sun Wukong's Advice System
Chapter 93 Can You Handle It?

Chapter 93: Chapter 93 Can You Handle It?

The Doumu Palace.

Grandmaster Lao was still in retreat, refining artifacts and contemplating the Dao.

Golden Horn and Silver Horn stood listlessly by the Eight Trigrams Furnace, fanning themselves with banana leaves.

"What is that Monkey doing here again?" Grandmaster Lao suddenly showed a change in expression, then instructed Golden Horn, "Go open the door, let Sun Wukong in."

Golden Horn immediately perked up, dropped the banana leaf fan, and happily headed to the main gate of the palace.

"Congratulations to the grandmaster on the successful conclusion of your retreat!" Silver Horn quickly kowtowed and congratulated, because by tradition, the grandmaster would not open the door to welcome guests until his retreat was over.

"Continue," Grandmaster Lao said with a glance.

"Ah..." Silver Horn’s head drooped down again.

Before long, Sun Wukong followed Golden Horn into the back hall of the palace, saw the radiant flames within the Eight Trigrams Furnace, first gave a formal salute, then knowingly asked, "Is the Grandmaster still in retreat?"

Of course, Grandmaster Lao can see through Monkey’s little trick, waved his horsetail whisk, and chuckled, "Speak, what is it?"

"Heh heh, your disciple has had some insights recently and would like to ask for some guidance from the grandmaster," Sun Wukong said, scratching his head and laughing, then elaborated on his idea for the inlay-style Spirit Guiding Instrument.

After listening, Grandmaster Lao lapsed into silence.

Golden Horn and Silver Horn exchanged looks, both surprised. This Great Sage Equalling Heaven was thinking too out of the box!

Even if they were fools, they could understand this was a kind of Spiritual Treasure far more revolutionary than the original Spirit Guiding Instruments!

"It’s not hard to make an inlay-style Spirit Guiding Instrument," said Grandmaster Lao in a deep voice, "What’s difficult is, it will upset the structure of the Three Realms, even cause heaven to shatter and earth to split.

It can bring overwhelming infamy to you, its creator,

or perhaps, unprecedented praise,

Can you bear all that?"

The question "Can you bear it?" sounded like a great bell in Sun Wukong’s heart, resonating within and stripping him of all emotions such as playfulness, impatience, doubt, anger, and the like.

He became extremely calm and began to think seriously.

Could he really bear it?

Once the inlay-style Spirit Guiding Instrument was made, it meant that beings below the immortals would also have a chance to wield powerful treasures.

Perhaps one day, those unascended beings could hold these instruments and slay the immortals and Buddhas of the Nine Heavens!

So would the myriad immortals and Buddhas want to see such a treasure born?

And as its creator, what he would need to endure would likely be more than overwhelming infamy, but also endless pressure.

As for praise, it should presumably come from all the weak.

Sun Wukong’s eyes gleamed passionately; his emotions were greatly stirred.

"The intention was to turn heaven and earth upside down; otherwise, how could anything be changed?"

The more he understood about this world, the more he learned of the future from the friends on Zhihu, the more he felt a thick layer concealing everything, like clouds enshrouding mists.

Some things, perhaps even Zhihu’s netizens can’t explain clearly.

The Havoc in Heaven, the Journey to the West—those futures tied to him—do they hide even more secrets?

The Buddha, the Jade Emperor, Grandmaster Lao, even his master Bodhi—do they have some unknown objectives?

Putting aside the current situation in the Heavenly Court, if the Buddha Sect starts the scripture-fetching project in the future and insists on him being the pilgrim, what could he do?

With his power alone, it would be impossible to oppose the Buddha Sect!

Only by overturning the current order is there a chance to change the future!

At this moment, Sun Wukong’s thoughts were clear, and he solemnly bowed to Grandmaster Lao: "Please aid me, Grandmaster."

"Good," said the Grandmaster with a gentle nod.

Golden Horn and Silver Horn stood by, somewhat bewildered. The two exchanged glances, feeling as though they had witnessed something momentous.

One day passed, which was equivalent to a year in the lower realms.

[Congratulations on completing the suggestion—upgrading to craft the inlaid Spirit Guiding Instrument. You have obtained a Tier 6 treasure chest.]

Wukong packed away the newly refined Spiritual Treasure with joy and left the Doushuai Palace.

Before he left, he casually asked a question, "May I ask the Grandmaster, if one day I confront the Buddha Sect in a life or death struggle, whom will the Grandmaster assist?"

A flicker of surprise crossed the Grandmaster’s eyes as he waved his horsetail whisk and said, "You hold no deep grudge against the Buddha Sect, so why do you ask this?"

Wukong replied with a chuckle, "I had a dream a few days ago where I saw those Buddhas and Bodhisattvas from the Buddha Sect insisting that I be their servant. Outraged, I fought them but lost, and then I woke up."

The Grandmaster gazed deeply at the Monkey King and finally smiled, saying, "As long as what you do benefits the heavens and the earth, I will surely assist you."

"With this knowledge, I am reassured. Thank you for your guidance, Grandmaster!" Wukong bowed sincerely and then made a request, "Recently, by the Emperor’s decree, I have been refitting the Heavenly Soldiers and Generals. The Refining Fire Hall is short-handed. I see that Golden Horn and Silver Horn are quite skilled at tending fire; perhaps they could go there for some experience?"

"That would be good," the Grandmaster nodded.

Upon hearing this, Golden Horn and Silver Horn were overjoyed, feeling immensely grateful to the Great Sage Equalling Heaven, for they were finally going out!

Wukong looked at them and scratched his face with a sly grin.

As the three of them left noisily, the Grandmaster gazed into the flames within the cauldron and fell into thought.

"Truly born divine, to dream a glimpse of fate... But then, after this, is destiny still destiny?"

"Destiny, variables, truly marvelous," he mused.

A hint of a smile appeared on the Grandmaster’s face, but it quickly faded as he shook his head, "This brash monkey is truly unpredictable."

He continued to contemplate how to refine exquisite Spiritual Treasures from artifact materials that contained no fragments of Laws.

Wukong, however, was not limited by this and instead, let his imagination soar, taking the Spirit Guiding Instruments onto a different path.

"If the Emperor hears of this, he is likely going to have a headache," the Grandmaster murmured as he looked towards the Hall of Universal Brightness in the Miro Palace.

...

Wukong returned to the Refining Fire Hall and immediately handed Golden Horn and Silver Horn over to Yuhua, instructing him to keep the two lads busy and deny them any chance to play or rest.

"Oh heavens, we’ve fallen into a demon’s lair!" lamented both Golden Horn and Silver Horn, upset that they were made to do hard labor.

But they were helpless since it was the Grandmaster’s command, and besides, they were no match for that detestable Bimawen!

Wukong felt even more pleased with himself. After inspecting the Spirit Guiding Instrument crafting process in the Refining Fire Hall, he returned to his residence, the Great Sage’s Mansion, to open the newly acquired Tier 6 treasure chest.

[You have opened the Tier 6 treasure chest. Congratulations on acquiring the Staff Dao Law Comprehension (quadruple), Bow Dao Law Comprehension (quadruple), Dao of Artifacts (double), Formations Dao Law (double), and One Nine-Turn Golden Elixir.]

As the notification sounded, an ancient treasure chest in Wukong’s mind lit up, and various rewards flew out.

Thereafter, memories and understandings that were vast, mystical, or profound streamed into his mind.

First were the four Great Path Laws, which had been accumulated multiple times and finally advanced.

The Staff Dao and Formations Dao were both elevated to quadruple, realms of Laws belonging to a mid-phase Quasi-Saint, a mixed-element Golden Immortal.

Yet, he was currently only at the mid-stage of being a Daluo Golden Immortal, and his Dao had already reached such lofty heights.

Should he encounter Guang Chengzi again, he would not be as helpless as the last time, only able to withstand two strikes.

Then there was the Nine-Turn Golden Elixir. Wukong looked at the glittering Immortal Pill and popped it into his mouth, treating it as a sugary snack just as he did with the previous ones he received.

As time passed, with the Refining Fire Hall working at full tilt to create batch after batch of Spirit Guiding Instruments, the Heavenly Soldiers and Generals finally began to exchange their weapons.

Once the brand-new Spirit Guiding Instruments were distributed into the hands of every Heavenly Soldier and General, the three realms, peaceful for many years, were about to see change.
