Journey to the West: Sun Wukong's Advice System
Chapter 59: The Palace of Trayastrimsa

Chapter 59: Chapter 59: The Palace of Trayastrimsa

"Just as the grandmaster said," Yu Yuan said respectfully, "Zhou Xin and the other three martial uncles have tried many times, and even sought the help of the forge officer Wu Wenhua, but none could carve the spiritual runes into the magical treasures."

Golden Mother Jin Ling replied with a faint smile, "Translating Supernatural Spells into spiritual runes is quite an exquisite idea, but it is not entirely novel. You call it spiritual runes, but in reality, it shares some similarities with the art of talismans."

As she spoke, with a wave of her sleeve, thunder flashed and boomed before her, and in an instant, the Five Thunder Divine Power rapidly transformed into a glowing rune of thunder.

Witnessing this scene, Yu Yuan felt immense reverence in his heart. He and the four disciples of Wen Huang had studied for so long, turning only a few simple spells into spiritual runes through a similar approach to talismans.

But the grandmaster grasped everything after one explanation, instantaneously completing the rune transformation, and even with the notoriously difficult to cultivate Five Thunder Divine Power.

Golden Mother Jin Ling continued, "However, to then engrave these spiritual runes into magical treasures, that idea is indeed good and truly difficult, and different from the way of talismans."

"Please enlighten me, grandmaster," Yu Yuan respectfully requested.

"This is the Path of Artifact Refining, not my area of expertise," said Golden Mother Jin Ling, "But if I am not mistaken, the engraving of spiritual runes may require the use of restrictions."

"Restrictions? That’s a method of formations," Yu Yuan said in surprise. "I have heard from my master before that formation restrictions can be used to refine Spiritual Treasures and supreme treasures."

"Indeed," Golden Mother Jin Ling nodded slightly. "Yet in this realm, there are very few who are proficient in this art.

Within our sect, there are Lu Yue, Luo Xuan, and your master Yu Yuan who knows a bit about the Restriction Artifact Refining Method, but they are not experts in it.

From the rival sect, only Yun Zhongzi has some insight into this art, and although he is not considered an expert either, he is still somewhat stronger than the other three."

Hearing these words, Yu Yuan sighed inwardly. That was why every time there were martial contests in the Heavenly Court, they were defeated by the rival sect.

"Do not lose heart. As you said, this spiritual direction instrument is a turning point," said Golden Mother Jin Ling with a slight smile. "As it happens, within this Heavenly Holy Realm, resides the greatest master of this art in all the Three Realms.

If he is willing to teach Sun Wukong, then the matter is settled."

"I will go back and remind the Great Saint Sun Wukong right away," Yu Yuan realized, clearly knowing whom the grandmaster meant.

"No need to remind him; he has already gone to the Palace of Dou Mu," the gaze of Golden Mother Jin Ling passed through the vast void to view the peaceful Heavenly Holy Realm.

Yu Yuan was surprised. It was widely known that the Grandmaster of the Palace of Dou Mu excelled in Alchemy, but few knew that the Grandmaster was also adept at Artifact Refining.

How did Sun Wukong find out?

...

Upon learning that the four disciples of Wen Huang had failed to engrave the spiritual runes into the magical treasures, the first thing Sun Wukong thought of was to use Spiritual Treasures and supreme treasures as references, but he did not understand Artifact Refining.

And the four disciples of Wen Huang were not top-level Artifact Refining masters either, so following the advice of net friends from Zhi Hu, he went directly to the Palace of Dou Mu.

He never felt that not knowing was a matter of shame; ignorance simply meant he had potential for improvement, and if he did not know, he would learn.

"Elder Hong Huang Bai Shi Tong once said that the Grandmaster Lao is a master of Artifact Refining, and Old Sun must learn from him," Sun Wukong, bearing a sincere heart to learn, rode the clouds straight to the Palace of Dou Mu.

In the hazy celestial mist ahead, appeared an ancient Taoist palace devoid of rosy clouds or auspicious vapors, yet invisibly imbued with the essence of Tao, exuding a subtle domination that evoked awe and deterrence from onlookers.

"This Elder Lao is no less than my master," Sun Wukong scratched his head, his eyes shimmering with divine light.

Having comprehended the laws of the Great Dao himself, he was not intimidated by the essence’s pressure. With a few leaps, he arrived in front of the Palace of Dou Mu.

The palace gate was half open, and outside lay a board-horned green ox in deep slumber. With each breath it took, a great amount of spiritual energy surged, indicating its formidable strength.

"The Demon King mentioned having a brother in heaven, could it be this green ox?" thought Sun Wukong, intrigued.

Just as he was about to greet it, the half-open palace gate swung open, and a golden-robed page boy emerged, asking, "The Grandmaster said someone had come to visit, is that you?"

"Indeed, indeed," Sun Wukong replied with a smile, cupping his hands in greeting. He knew the Grandmaster of this place was no ordinary figure and did not behave presumptuously.

"Follow me," said the golden-robed page boy as he turned to lead the way.

Hopping inside in just a couple of steps, Sun Wukong asked, "I appreciate your help, celestial child, may I inquire your esteemed name?"

The golden-robed page boy responded with a smile and a bow, "The Grandmaster gave me the name Golden Horn, and that is what I am called."

They started chatting, and Sun Wukong, after several probing attempts, managed to gather much information.

For instance, Golden Horn served as an attendant guarding the alchemical furnace for Taishang Laojun, and he had a companion called Silver Horn.

He also learned that Taishang Laojun was the most skilled alchemist in all three realms, renowned for his Nine-Turn Golden Elixir, which could grant immortality and greatly enhance cultivation if consumed.

"Nine-Turn Golden Elixir?" Sun Wukong’s eyes lit up upon hearing this, and saliva started to ooze uncontrollably from his mouth.

"Don’t get any crooked ideas, or the Grandmaster will not let you off lightly," Golden Horn immediately cautioned. "Even if you are a Daluo Golden Immortal, if you steal the Golden Core, the Grandmaster will cast you into the Eight Trigrams furnace and refine you into a great medicine with the divine fire of Liuding."

"What are you talking about, young celestial? I always stay within bounds; how could I do such a thing?" Sun Wukong chuckled, scratching his face.

As they conversed, they arrived inside the main hall of the Taoist palace.

There sat an elder dressed in an Eight Trigrams Taoist robe, holding a horsetail whisk, seated cross-legged on a cushion.

At first glance, Sun Wukong thought he had come across his own master, the Bodhi Patriarch.

Taishang Laojun wore a friendly smile, sharing a semblance to his master’s spirit, evoking a feeling of kinship in Sun Wukong.

With a mix of curiosity and warmth, he approached and paid his respects, "Sun Wukong pays homage to the Grandmaster."

The Taishang Laojun asked with a smile, "What brings you to me?"

Sun Wukong replied honestly, "Recently, I have been crafting a magical artifact called the Spirit-Guiding Device, and I’ve encountered some difficulties, so I thought to seek the Grandmaster’s guidance."

Taishang Laojun nodded slightly, "A Spirit-Guiding Device? Tell me about it."

Sun Wukong explained the concept of creating the Spirit-Guiding Device and pointed out the current problems he was facing, finally saying, "I’ve heard that the Grandmaster is a rare master of artifact refining in the world, and I humbly ask for your instruction!"

"Hahaha, you’re trying to flatter me with words, you cheeky monkey," Taishang Laojun laughed heartily. "The Spirit-Guiding Device is a fine idea. If successful, it would be of great benefit to all three realms, and I will certainly help you."

"Hehe, my thanks, thank you, Grandmaster!" Sun Wukong was so delighted he scratched his head and cheeks. "Please teach me quickly the method of inscribing spirit patterns."

"You monkey are always so impatient," Taishang Laojun waved his horsetail whisk and smiled, "As Confucianism says, without taking small steps, one cannot reach a thousand miles; without small streams, there can be no rivers or seas.

You currently know nothing about artifact refining, even if I teach you the method of inscribing spirit patterns, it will be of no use."

Hearing this, Sun Wukong scratched his hand, swiftly reflected on himself, and quickly dispelled the impatience in his heart, once again paying his respects and saying, "Your pupil sincerely seeks to learn; please teach me the Path of Artifact Refining, Grandmaster."
