Chapter 56: Chapter 56 Observe the Changes

Refining Fire Hall.

"Great Saint, I have come to pay my respects," said the Lord of the Fire Virtue Star, taking the initiative to greet him.

"Courtesy appreciated, appreciated indeed," replied Sun Wukong, still standing with his hands clasped behind his back, maintaining his stature.

Though he held the position of Armory Command at the Refining Fire Hall, his celestial rank as the Great Sage Equalling Heaven should tower above that of all other chief gods in Heaven.

Furthermore, being a Daluo Golden Immortal, he became a unique presence within the Refining Fire Hall. Despite his low official rank, even the Lord of the Fire Virtue Star treated him with respect.

Moreover, from the Lord of the Fire Virtue Star’s demeanor and actions, Sun Wukong perceived a show of respect.

He felt that his virtues had convinced the other party; he did not think much further on this.

Indeed, the Lord of the Fire Virtue Star continued, "Great Sage, you bore a deadly grudge with that scoundrel Xiao Zhen but still upheld justice to discover the truth and ultimately saved Xiao Zhen’s life."

"Such magnanimity is truly admirable, admirable indeed."

"It is you, Lord of the Fire Virtue Star, who knows how to speak well. Old Sun is pleased to hear this and will surely visit here often," laughed Sun Wukong, visibly delighted.

The Lord of the Fire Virtue Star repeatedly agreed.

Afterward, as Tai Bai Venus prepared to take leave, Sun Wukong and the Lord of the Fire Virtue Star escorted him out of the hall.

Once far away on his cloud, Tai Bai Venus looked back and expressed his thoughts, "His Majesty is truly sagacious!"

First, by going with the flow and seeing through the smugglers’ scheme to murder Deng Hua and frame Xiao Zhen, His Majesty the Jade Emperor swiftly took back the control of the Imperial Horse Supervisor and the Armory Department.

Then, refusing to compromise with the adversaries, he appointed Sun Wukong, a Daluo Golden Immortal, to the position of Armory Command.

Hence, the faction-ridden Refining Fire Hall gained an addition–someone unmanageable, unchallengeable, and exceedingly astute.

"You all underestimated His Majesty’s resolve," mused Tai Bai Venus with a chuckle.

Those people thought His Majesty was still the same as before. When confronted with increasingly demanding actions, he used to ignore them or make compromises.

But now, with Sun Wukong here, His Majesty has finally begun to change.

If those people continue to act as they did before, they would likely suffer greatly.

Tai Bai Venus, twirling his beard, cheerfully headed back to the Tongming Hall.

Meanwhile, Sun Wukong did not converse much with the Lord of the Fire Virtue Star as it was their first meeting.

He then went straight to the Armory Department. This was one of the four auxiliary halls of the Refining Fire Hall, much more imposing than the Imperial Horse Supervisor but he found it quite uncomfortable.

"Hmm, too restrictive; not as free as the stables," Sun Wukong scratched his face, thinking that no hall could compare to the vastness of the stables.

Having walked around a bit, he felt that the entire Refining Fire Hall, from top to bottom, was quite oppressive. All the officials seemed exceedingly cautious.

Unlike at the Imperial Horse Supervisor, where he could freely scold those deceitful officials.

"Best to get things done and leave this place soon," thought Sun Wukong. Then sitting in the middle of the Armory auxiliary hall, he ordered the celestial officials around him, "Present all documents of the office."

The celestial officials did not dare to delay and quickly brought the documents, stacking them into a small mound in the hall.

Sun Wukong started to review the documents, but after only one, he grew impatient, "When will this end?"

After a moment of scratching his head in annoyance, he had an idea.

"Hehe, transform!"

Instantly, he created many hair-derived clones, each reading a document, filling the entire Armory Department with a bustling noise.

Sitting above, Sun Wukong was greatly pleased, feeling the omnipresent oppressive atmosphere dissipate quite a bit.

The normally cautious celestial officials watched, dumbfounded.

...

The lively noise soon spread throughout the Refining Fire Hall.

In the Purchase Department, Wood Treasury Star Lord Ji Shuqian frowned, saying somberly, "A demon remains a demon, lacking in manners."

In the Forge Department, Wench Xingjun Mighty Wu Wenhua grinned, "Not as composed as General Yuan, but a fine Monkey King indeed."

In the Craft Department, Lone Star Lord Yu Hua remained cold, showing no other emotion.

When it reached the two Vice Hall Masters, their reactions differed.

Fire Treasury Star Lord Fire Spirit Holy Mother laughed heartily.

Tufu Xingjun, on the other hand, furrowed his brows, understanding that this was someone who did not play by the rules.

Who had ever seen such a way of reviewing documents among deities? They were not short-lived mortals who rushed everything.

The documents that would take a day in heaven to read through, Sun Wukong would likely finish in just a moment.

"This Great Sage is top-notch at investigating cases, yet it is unknown how well-versed he is in paperwork, whether he can discern the clues within those documents,"

"Regardless, the Refining Fire Hall probably won’t be at peace."

Sitting cross-legged, Tufu Xingjun frowned deeply, pondering for a long while before deciding to quietly observe the developments.

...

At the Armory, Sun Wukong had skimmed through the mountains of documents in less than a moment, and after retracting his hair clone, he had all the contents in mind.

Since the establishment of the Armory, he had memorized the details of various weapons’ intake and distribution in Heaven.

"Just as expected!" Sun Wukong sneered.

He organized his thoughts and pinpointed all the anomalies, or more precisely, the evidence of smuggling.

In these documents, the numbers of weapons leaked from Heaven were clearly recorded.

Many weapons were smuggled out of Heaven in batches and were not distributed to the heavenly troops of various departments.

Moreover, each document concerning the weapon dispatch was signed with the divine seal of Xiao Zhen, the Wood Treasury Star Lord,

Additionally, he noticed that the smuggled weapons mainly included dragon scale armor, the Dragon Bone Spear, the Dragon Bone Sword, and the Dragon Tendon Bow, clearly sourced from the dragons of the Imperial Stables.

And it was Deng Hua, the previous real controller of the Imperial Stables.

"Just as the senior forum member from ancient myth trivia network said, the smugglers were well-prepared," Sun Wukong thought. He knew that if he went to the procurement department to inquire, he would definitely find evidence of Deng Hua’s involvement in smuggling.

Once the His Majesty the Jade Emperor took action, these pieces of evidence would allow the real smugglers to escape trouble.

"Heh, too bad you encountered me, Old Sun!" Sun Wukong’s eyes flashed with a divine light, now very certain that the smuggler was hidden within the Refining Fire Hall.

Or rather, one of the smugglers.

Because conducting such weapon smuggling in Heaven was not a task one person could accomplish.

Afterward, Sun Wukong left a decoy in the Armory and his real body stealthily moved to the celestial prison.

After finding Xiao Zhen, he first immobilized the guards and said to the panicked Xiao Zhen, "Now, only Old Sun can save you."

Xiao Zhen was stunned for a long time before finally lowering his head despondently and asked, "What do you want to do?"

Sun Wukong chuckled and roughly explained the evidence found in the documents from the Armory.

Upon hearing this, Xiao Zhen’s complexion had already drastically changed, "This is a frame-up. Since I’ve been in charge of the Armory, I’ve only cared about leisure and seldom intermeddled with its affairs.

The divine seals on those documents were left according to the procedure of weapons dispatch and intake, and I never scrutinized the content of the documents closely."

"You deserve to be discarded," Sun Wukong said scornfully.

"The Great Sage is right to instruct," Xiao Zhen replied, with a bitter smile.

"Then who actually controls the Armory?" Sun Wukong asked, though he already had a suspicion.

As expected, Xiao Zhen hurriedly said, "It is Vice Hall Master Tufu Xingjun, he usually calls me Uncle Master and says he doesn’t want to see me overwork myself, so he asked me not to bother with the department’s affairs, that he would handle everything..."

At this point, even the foolish could understand.

"This bastard, utterly shameless!" Xiao Zhen cursed angrily.

"Oh, what is so shameless about him? Elaborate," Sun Wukong scratched his head.

"This goes back to the battle of Divine Enthronement..." Xiao Zhen fell into reminiscence.

The more Sun Wukong listened, the more irritated he became, especially the part about Tufu Xingjun forcefully demanding Deng Chanyu, which greatly displeased him.

After listening, he sneered, "Your Chan Sect is full of shameless and sinister folks, and the disciples of Intercepting Sect are fools, a bunch of brainless people who didn’t completely exterminate you, rightfully deserving their defeat!"

Xiao Zhen laughed bitterly, offering no comment.

Sun Wukong then stealthily returned to the Armory of the Refining Fire Hall, and after some inquiries, he already had a plan in mind.

Deliberately targeting Tufu Xingjun was the way to go!

But he waited in the Armory for a long time and saw no activity from Tufu Xingjun.

"Hey, Old Sun is just observing the changes, could this guy be doing the same?" Sun Wukong scratched his face, thought about it, and chuckled, "Got it!"

He immediately summoned various celestial officials to invite Yang Chan, Ne Zha, and Tianpeng to come for a banquet, ostensibly to celebrate his promotion.

Soon, the side hall where the Armory was located became lively again, and the noise reached all corners of the Refining Fire Hall.

"Really can’t be at peace," Tufu Xingjun chuckled and shook his head, "Since that’s the case, there’s a good chance to quiet them down."

Thinking thus, he jumped to the ground and left the Refining Fire Hall.

But he didn’t notice that a speck of dust had already stuck to him and followed him all the way to Fragrant Attire Hall.
