Journey to the West: Sun Wukong's Advice System -
Chapter 49: Alibi Evidence
Chapter 49: Chapter 49: Alibi Evidence
Inside the Lingxiao Treasure Hall, all the immortals were curious about where Sun Wukong was going to find evidence.
Some even held the same thought as Xiao Zhen, believing he wanted to take the chance to escape.
Under the watchful eyes of many, Sun Wukong asked the Jade Emperor above, "Your Majesty, please allow old Sun to ask for some clarity."
"Granted," the Jade Emperor said.
"Thank you, thank you," Sun Wukong said with a smile, bowing his hands, and walked over to the shivering celestial scribe, speaking in a kind and pleasant tone, "Young brother, do not fear, old Sun merely wishes to inquire what happened to your Star Lord before his demise,
you must tell the truth, if there is any omission, your life will be difficult to preserve."
The celestial scribe, scared pale, hastily said, "This servant dares not deceive, sometime earlier, my Star Lord had been sent back to his mansion by the Metal Treasury Star Lord,
after being treated for his injuries, he started drinking, weeping and drinking, and drank with the Metal Treasury Star Lord for a long time, until finally passing out, and it was this servant who carried him back to his room to rest."
"Indeed, after Brother Deng Hua fell asleep, I left," Xiao Zhen said, his expression unchanging.
"Then what happened?" Sun Wukong pressed on.
The celestial scribe continued sorrowfully, "Then not long after, I heard a shout from inside the room, and when I rushed in, I found my Star Lord lying on the ground, with no breath left, his soul dispersed."
Having said that, the celestial scribe began to wipe his tears, looking very sad.
"A shout, you say?" Sun Wukong thoughtfully scratched his face and then asked, "Was there anything else unusual?"
"Unusual?" The celestial scribe thought while crying, and finally hesitated to say, "When my Star Lord died, his eyes were wide open as if he had been greatly frightened."
"Eyes wide open, greatly frightened..." Sun Wukong pondered carefully.
"Don’t even think about being lucky," Xiao Zhen scoffed from the side, "You demon monkey, before, you had been set up by the officials of the Imperial Horse Supervisor, and followed that Supervisor Deputy to sneak into Brother Deng Hua’s mansion, where you overheard Brother Deng Hua and I discussing the injury plot.
If you could sneak in once, you could do it again, to harm the life of my brother, now..."
"Shut your mouth!" Sun Wukong rebuked, "Who called you to speak of ’demon monkey’? Such disrespect!
Old Sun is the Great Sage Equalling Heaven, personally proclaimed by His Majesty, having a top-grade immortal talisman, you, a mere small Star Lord, even if you do not pay your respects when you see old Sun, should at least address me as Great Sage.
Now you keep calling me ’demon monkey,’ could it be that you do not accept His Majesty’s decree?"
"You, you, you!" Xiao Zhen trembled with anger, and suddenly feeling a chill descending from above, he quickly pleaded to the Jade Emperor, "Your Majesty, forgive me, I meant no disrespect!
This demon... Sun Wukong will not let me speak further, surely because he’s guilty!"
The Jade Emperor asked Sun Wukong, "Great Sage Equalling Heaven, according to what the Metal Treasury Star Lord has said, you once infiltrated the Wood Treasury Star Lord’s mansion, is this true?"
"Old Sun does not act in the shadows; I did indeed follow the Supervisor Deputy there," Sun Wukong, who was not prone to lying, freely admitted.
Many of the immortal officials and divine generals in the grand hall frowned, most of them having cultivation levels lower than Sun Wukong, naturally worrying about the security of their own mansions.
Seeing this, Sun Wukong knew what they were thinking, and with a wave of his hands all around, he chuckled, "I assure you all, old Sun does not have the habit of secretly listening to secrets everywhere. If it weren’t for that scoundrel Deng Hua plotting against old Sun, I wouldn’t have done such a thing."
Having said that, he did not elaborate further since more explanation wouldn’t make them believe, and they would understand in time.
"But you certainly could have infiltrated again to harm the Wood Treasury Star Lord," the Jade Emperor said.
"This, old Sun did not do; you can’t just pour dirty water on me," Sun Wukong gestured dismissively.
"Then have you found evidence to prove yourself?" the Jade Emperor asked, his gaze falling down.
"Soon, very soon," Sun Wukong said, yet he vaguely felt something was off about the Jade Emperor’s attitude, but now was not the time to ponder, so he asked the celestial scribe again, "Do you remember when your Star Lord fell?"
"The time was just at the third quarter past noon," the celestial secretary answered in a panic.
"Heh, there it is!" Sun Wukong clapped his hands and laughed. In fact, ever since he learned of Deng Hua’s death, he had been contemplating how to clear himself of the suspicion.
According to the criminal investigation experience imparted by wise netizen 9527, who is a senior, what he most needed was an alibi.
Now he had found it!
With this in mind, Sun Wukong made a respectful gesture to the Jade Emperor and said, "Your Majesty, I have a witness to prove that at the time of the Wood Treasury Star Lord’s demise, both I and Yang Chan were not present!"
"That’s right!" Yang Chan also nodded vigorously, her eyes shining brightly.
Xiao Zhen furrowed his brow, and all the immortals were astonished—where had the Great Sage Equalling Heaven gotten a witness from?
"Who is the witness?" the Jade Emperor asked.
"The Supervisor of the Milky Way River Navy, Marshal Tianpeng," Sun Wukong replied with a smile.
The immortals were even more astonished. Marshal Tianpeng, commanding eighty thousand soldiers of the Milky Way River Navy, was one of the few powerful figures in heaven. How had he become involved?
If such a person were to testify, it would indeed clear Sun Wukong of the suspicion.
A look of puzzlement flickered across Xiao Zhen’s face.
The guards of the Lingxiao Treasure Hall swiftly went to the Milky Way Water Mansion to summon Marshal Tianpeng.
"This damned monkey, I’ve really hit a streak of bad luck encountering him!" Marshal Tianpeng cursed loudly upon learning the details.
He kept out of disputes in the Milky Way and had never offended anyone; he simply didn’t want any trouble.
After all, countless eyes were watching the eighty thousand soldiers he commanded, waiting to magnify any mistake he made.
But he had never expected trouble to come knocking on his door!
Cursing as he might, Marshal Tianpeng knew he still had to go and testify for that damned monkey.
Upon arriving at the Lingxiao Treasure Hall, Marshal Tianpeng did not give Sun Wukong a friendly look, puffing his beard and glaring with wide eyes.
The Jade Emperor from above asked, "Marshal Tianpeng, at the third quarter past noon today, what was Sun Wukong doing?"
Marshal Tianpeng hurriedly answered, "Your Majesty, at that time Sun Wukong and Fairy Yang Chan were horse racing in the Milky Way. I was acting as a temporary judge on the side, and many of the Milky Way River Navy can attest to this."
"Tianpeng, I really appreciate this," Sun Wukong said earnestly, giving a bow.
"Hmph," Tianpeng turned his face away.
Sun Wukong was not annoyed and smiled, looking towards Xiao Zhen.
Xiao Zhen’s complexion had already darkened, as the turn of events was completely different from what he had anticipated.
The Jade Emperor asked, "Wood Treasury Star Lord, do you have any other evidence to incriminate Sun Wukong and Yang Chan?"
Xiao Zhen, keeping his composure but still respectful, bowed and said, "I have no further evidence, and I implore Your Majesty to decree a thorough investigation into this case so that my senior brother may rest in peace!"
The immortals looked at one another, filled with astonishment and doubt. The death of the Wood Treasury Star Lord had become incredibly enigmatic—who was the real killer?
Sun Wukong was also puzzled. Although Deng Hua’s death pleased him, it was a death that was inexplicable and had occurred in the densely populated Heavenly Holy Realm, which was indeed strange and troubling.
Moreover, he realized that this case did not seem to be targeting him or Yang Chan, as they were too easily cleared of suspicion.
