Chapter 335: Chapter 282: The Demon Calamity

Not only did Sakyamuni Tathagata speak with loving-kindness, urging the withdrawal of troops, but Ancient Buddha Dipankara followed with a sorrowful lament, "India and the Great Han are both nations of humanity’s path, akin to brotherly states, so why inflict harm upon each other?

Moreover, on the battlefield, where blades and spears show no mercy, and the situation changes in the blink of an eye, the rise and fall of the Great Han hinge upon the fate of the king. Should any misfortune befall the king, the Great Han may well be plunged into an era of turmoil and chaos, leading to untold suffering for all living beings,

I believe, Majesty, you would do well to order a retreat and cease the battle now, which would be a great kindness to heaven, earth, and the way of humanity."

The many mighty ones present wore varying expressions, and it was clear to all that both Buddhas were singing in harmony, pressuring Liu Xiu to decide to withdraw the troops.

At this moment, countless gazes converged on Liu Xiu.

Standing amidst the military tents at the rear, Liu Xiu looked up at the sky and addressed Sakyamuni and Dipankara with grave sincerity, "The two revered Buddhas have said much, but why not ask the millions of my Han soldiers if they are willing to withdraw?"

"We will not retreat!"

"We will not retreat!"

"We will not retreat!"

Led by generals like Lu Bu, Guan Yu, Zhang Fei, Zhao Yun, Dian Wei, Xu Chu, Sun Ce, and others, the millions of soldiers roared in unison, their voices louder than a mountain tsunami, echoing through heaven and earth.

Luo Hou, bearing the image of Sakyamuni Tathagata, let out a light sigh.

Ancient Buddha Dipankara’s brow furrowed, and he lowered his head, silently chanting "Amitabha."

He had yet to understand why, with the situation as it was, and India already without any chance of victory, did Luo Hou call for him to persuade the Great Han to retreat?

Zhao Gongming mocked Sakyamuni Tathagata, "Duo Bao...no, Sakyamuni, and you, old Dipankara, do you have no shame? The Great Han could annihilate the entire Indian army in an instant, and you ask them to withdraw?"

Qiong Xiao sneered, "They are now lackeys of the Buddha Sect. If India falls, the Buddha Sect loses any chance of prosperity. Of course, they’re desperate."

Just as her words fell, suddenly, laughter filled the air: "Well said!"

At the same time, an overwhelming Demonic Qi surged like dark clouds that shrouded the sky, sweeping over the battlefield from afar.

The crowd traced the sound and saw two figures standing amid the dark clouds—one a man clad in a black robe with long black hair over his shoulders, and the other, a valiant woman dressed in a multicolored feather garment.

"Moluo?" Someone voiced in astonishment.

Only Yuan Feng, gazing excitedly at the woman in the colorful garment, recognized her as another of her children.

The man in the black robe looked around at the mighty ones and laughed, "Moluo is dead. I am Wutian, Buddha Wutian."

The faces of the Buddha Sect’s mighty ones present all changed; they remembered the events of a hundred years ago.

A hundred years earlier, Sakyamuni Tathagata had an encounter with Moluo at the Great Snow Mountain, and then the black lotus took root, the demonic clouds appeared over the Saint Realm of Mount Ling.

Back then, Sakyamuni Tathagata had proclaimed that with the black lotus taking root, a great calamity was imminent.

Could it be that today’s events are the fulfilment of the Buddha’s words?

The collapse of India undoubtedly douses again the flame of hope for the Buddha Sect’s prosperity, which is a calamity, is it not?

Both Buddhas exchanged a glance, their expressions somber.

Sakyamuni Tathagata was the first to ask in a deep tone, "Wutian, I have struck your true body into the Abyss of Darkness, to be trapped for five hundred years, yet barely a century has passed, so how have you returned?"

Wutian sneered, "Fate. Unfair fate has brought me back!"

Sakyamuni Tathagata pressed one hand to his chest and chanted, "Amitabha."

Dipankara then rebuked, "Wutian, you were once the Great Protector of the Buddha Sect. Because your six roots were impure, you violated the laws of the Buddha Sect. That is why you were expelled, and yet, instead of repenting, you’ve fallen into the way of demons. Why show yourself now?"

Wutian sneered back, "I’ve come today to show the world how hypocritical all the gods and Buddhas are. What impure six roots, what laws of the Buddha Sect? All jests! I will use my power to change the Buddha Sect, to change all the Three Realms!"

Saying this, a black gleam swirled in his eyes as he stared at Dipankara, "Ancient Buddha, you once led the Buddha Sect. If you are willing to follow me, you could return to your position at the head of the Buddha Sect."

Dipankara sighed softly, bowed his head, and began to chant the Buddhist scriptures in silence.

Behind him, the merit wheel began to coalesce, its Buddhist golden light flaring brightly, turning into a roaring blaze that consumed his flesh, leaving behind a single Shariputra in an instant.

Wutian shook his head: "Unreachably stubborn."

And with that, he swallowed Dipankara’s Shariputra.

The mighty ones present were shocked and bewildered; Ancient Buddha Dipankara was a being of ancient power, once among the three thousand guests of the Purple Cloud, a peer of the Saints, and had served as the Vice Sect Hierarch of the Chan Teaching before assuming the position of Buddha Sect leader, revered by the Twelve Golden Immortals of the Chan Teaching as their teacher.

How could such a significant figure offer no resistance before Wutian and simply pass away?

Manjusri Bodhisattva and Samantabhadra Bodhisattva looked on with mournful faces, wanting to take action to subdue the demon, but in the next moment, their expressions dramatically changed.

The Southern Extremity Longevity Star also reacted in kind; as he was about to act, his expression shifted to one of disbelief: "How could this be? How could it be so! Fixed by Fate? Fixed by the Heavenly Dao? How could a demon represent Fate?"

They weren’t the only ones; many strong individuals who considered taking action felt the presence of a predetermined fate in the cosmos.

That Buddha Wutian would rule the Three Realms for thirty-three years!

Manjusri Bodhisattva asked, "Buddha, why would a demon represent fate?"

Sakyamuni Tathagata addressed the monks of the Buddha Sect present: "Calamity has come; our powers are insufficient to contend with this demon. Remember not to act rashly and stay true to your nature, biding time through the malevolent times."

Samantabhadra Bodhisattva asked, "Buddha, does that mean we can only await our demise?"

Sakyamuni Tathagata pressed one hand to his chest and sighed, "Buddha is merciful. You must all remember the words I have just spoken."

Buddha Wutian laughed coldly, "Sakyamuni, since you have comprehended your fate, will you leave on your own, or shall I send you off?"

Sakyamuni Tathagata nodded slightly: "This tribulation is yours; no need for further words."
