Chapter 194: Chapter 194 Luo Tian Seal

Under the watchful eyes of the immortals, Sun Wukong scratched his head with a playful laugh and stepped forward to receive his reward.

Although this had long been agreed upon with the Jade Emperor, he was still overjoyed to actually hold such a high office now.

Afterward, this momentous peach banquet, destined to be forever remembered by the immortals from all Three Realms, thus came to an end.

Aside from the Heavenly Court’s Immortal Officers and Divine Generals, the immortals who rushed from all corners of the Three Realms left the Heavenly Court with mixed feelings.

From being trapped by the Formation, to the attack of the demonic sect, followed by Sun Wukong breaking the Formation, and finally the Tai Chi Diagram blocking that skeletal hand probing into the Three Realms, each of these scenes left a profound impression on all the immortals.

They understood that the originally peaceful Three Realms would now change.

Although a thousand years had passed since the Divine Enthronement War, and many deities had spent a millennium in leisure, they had never forgotten the calamity that the ordeal brought to this world.

And the consequences of the demonic sect’s assault on the Heavenly Court this time made them realize that this world was not as simple as it appeared on the surface.

Moreover, the heavy losses suffered by the Chan Teaching and the meteoric rise of Sun Wukong also showed them the truth of "if you don’t advance against the current, you will fall back."

For over a century, the Great Sage Equalling Heaven, Sun Wukong’s strength and status had steadily climbed.

From initially managing only the Imperial Horse Supervisor, to becoming the Master of Arms and Vice Hall Master of the Refining Fire Hall, then the Earthly Fiends Marshal and the Bei Ji Tian Zun, and now to his current stature as the Central Heavenly North Pole Purple Tenuity Emperor, ranking among the Four Imperials, his position in the Heavenly Court second only to the Jade Emperor!

In contrast, Chan Teaching faced problems time and again, gradually seeing its power in the Heavenly Court wane.

Although there were reasons involving struggles with the Heavenly Emperor, everyone knew that Chan Teaching itself had a big problem, repeatedly giving others the chance to take advantage.

Those disciples of Chan Teaching, like Bai Yun Tongzi, Qingxu Daode Zhenjun, Tai Yi, and Guang Chengzi, were all haughty and acted recklessly.

Even worse, some immortals from Chan Teaching directly joined the demonic sect, colluding with demons, like Tu Xing Sun, Bai He Tongzi, and the previous Ziwei Great Emperor, Bo Yikao!

And Chan Teaching’s reckless counterattacks against the Heavenly Emperor and Sun Wukong also ultimately led to the depletion of the Heavenly Court’s military forces, giving the demonic sect an opportunity to exploit.

The immortals saw clearly that with Sun Wukong’s promotion to Ziwei Great Emperor, the once overwhelming influence of Chan Teaching in the Heavenly Court would probably never return.

However, such thoughts could only be kept to themselves.

Because although Chan Teaching was repeatedly frustrated in the Heavenly Court, it did not affect their status in the Three Realms. With Saint Yuan Shi present, Chan Teaching remained the foremost among the three teachings of the Xuanmen.

...

The immortals departed one after another, but some did not leave.

Bodhisattva Guanyin and Supreme One Jia Ye came to Tongming Hall once again, appearing before the Jade Emperor.

At this time, the Jade Emperor sat there with a majestic posture, silent and without the leisurely demeanor of the past.

Tai Bai Jin Xing asked with a chuckle, "The peach banquet has ended, why do you not return to Mount Ling, but come here instead?"

Bodhisattva Guanyin stood with one hand raised in respect, and said solemnly, "Your Majesty, today the demonic sect attacked the Heavenly Court, and Luo Tian’s hand reached into the Three Realms. It is evident that the demonic path is growing stronger, and the Luo Tian Seal under Mount Ling may not hold much longer; it urgently requires the destiny of the Human Race to suppress it.

The Buddha wishes to ask whether the promotion of Buddhism is feasible?"

Tai Bai Jin Xing’s smile froze, and he looked towards the Jade Emperor, not knowing how to respond to such a question.

The Jade Emperor’s eyes shimmered like the milky way as he asked, "How would you promote Buddhism?"

Bodhisattva Guanyin replied, "The Buddha says it requires two individuals capable of carrying the destiny of the Human Race for the scripture journey, to transmit the Mahayana Buddhist Law to the land of Nan Zhan Bu Zhou where the destiny of the Human Race gathers.

One is Jia Ye, the second disciple seated under the Buddha, and the other is the Great Sage Equalling Heaven, Sun Wukong,

Once their mission is accomplished, both shall gain immeasurable merit and may obtain the Buddha’s fruit position."

The Jade Emperor then asked, "Is there no other way?"

Jia Ye answered, "After long deliberation, the Three Buddhas all agreed that this is the best method for the propagation of Buddhism."

The Jade Emperor said, "But from beginning to end, none of you have asked for Sun Wukong’s opinion."

Guanyin and Jia Ye both fell silent. How could they ask that? Even the denizens of Mount Ling were kept in the dark about Golden Cicada, let alone Sun Wukong.

The Jade Emperor smiled, "Why don’t you ask him now?"

As his voice fell, Sun Wukong walked out from the rear hall.

The expressions of Guanyin and Jia Ye changed immediately.

Sun Wukong’s face was full of defiance, "Just as His Majesty said, have you ever asked for Old Sun’s opinion?"

Guanyin spoke gravely, "Whatever the opinion may be, the Luo Tian Seal is vital to the survival of the Three Realms, and all beings should be bound by duty."

"Heh, duty bound?" Sun Wukong sneered coldly, "Old Sun has always been fighting against the demon cults, when have I ever retreated?

What about you monks on Mount Ling who chant and pray, what have you done?

Just waiting for the heavens to help? To predestine everything for you?"

Guanyin remained silent, struggling to respond.

Jia Ye said sternly, "Sun Wukong..."

Sun Wukong’s demeanor was imposing, "Who are you to call me by my name so directly?"

"Amitabha, this monk has seen the Ziwei Great Emperor," Jia Ye brought his hands together, his face filled with compassion, "The matter of promoting Buddhism is decreed by heaven, and our Buddha Sect also acts according to this destiny."

"Destiny? That’s just an excuse for your incompetence," Wukong mocked, "Under Buddha Sect’s rule, demons are rampant throughout the Western Felicity Continent. You don’t deal with them but only think of seizing the fortune of the human path from the Southern Continent."

Jia Ye fell silent too.

Sun Wukong, looking at the two powerful figures from the Buddha Sect, spoke earnestly, "Go back and tell the Buddha, he can find someone else to fetch the scriptures. It’s not up to the Buddha Sect to manipulate how Old Sun walks his path!"

Jia Ye said somberly, "Ziwei Great Emperor, if you do not retrieve the scriptures, when the Luo Tian Seal breaks, the Three Realms will become a purgatory and you will bear the sin."

"Hahaha!" Sun Wukong laughed heartily, his laughter filled with mockery, "If the existence of the Three Realms depends solely on one person, then the Three Realms are too weak and deserve to be destroyed!"

Guanyin and Jia Ye exchanged a glance but said no more, their expressions grave as they left the Tongming Hall.

The Jade Emperor did not say a word, watching them leave with an expressionless face.

Tai Bai Jin Xing, however, clenched his beard tightly, knowing that from this moment on, the relationship between the Heavenly Court and the Buddha Sect might not remain peaceful as before.

In Sun Wukong’s eyes, a gleam of anticipation flashed; his life was about to embrace a new change after his open confrontation with the Buddha Sect.

Of course, he was also aware that the Buddha Sect would surely not give up on their project to promote Buddhism.

Whether the scripture retrieval mission would change had to wait until Guanyin and Jia Ye returned to Mount Ling to see what the Buddha would say.

For now, what concerned him most was the Luo Tian Seal mentioned by the two Buddha Sect powerhouses earlier.

The Luo Tian Spiritual Liquid, the Hand of Luo Tian, the Luo Tian Seal, all were related to Luo Tian.

Who exactly was this Luo Tian? And what was his relation to the Demon Ancestor Luo Hou?

Sun Wukong decided to first inquire with the Jade Emperor, then ask the knowledgeable seniors on the internet.

"Your Majesty, could you tell me what the Luo Tian Seal is, why it requires the fortune of the human path to suppress it, and how it is related to the survival of the Three Realms?" he asked.

"This is an ancient secret, known to few in the Three Realms," the Jade Emperor slowly said, "But now that things have come to this, there is no harm in telling you."
