Chapter 95: Chapter 95 | Quiver

*The following scenes will be flashbacks

"Watch out!" shouted Zendrell as he hurled himself toward Vendrael, tackling his friend to the side just in time to dodge the icy breath of a massive dragon that swooped down from the sky.

*ROAR!!!

The creature let out a low roar, its wings stretched wide, and as it rose again into the swirling storm, its breath left behind a jagged trail of glistening ice that froze everything it touched.

"Thanks, man!" Vendrael called out as he scrambled back onto his feet.

Without wasting another second, he raised his arms and fully stretched his energy bow, the glowing strings made of eidra coiling smoothly from his fingers.

The energy wrapped around his limbs like liquid light before tightening into form, and then, with one breath and a focus of his mind, he released it.

*BANG!!!

A blinding volley of energy arrows flew from the bow—more than a hundred of them—each one sharp, fast, and pulsing with guided power.

The arrows didn’t fly randomly.

They curved and twisted as if alive, homing in on the dragon that circled above them.

With a sequence of loud, synchronized bangs, each arrow made contact, slamming into the dragon’s thick scales.

*bang! *bang! *Bang! *Bang! *BANG! *BANG! *BANG!

One by one, the arrows exploded against the creature’s icy hide, their blasts ringing through the howling winds.

Then, with a firm clench of his fist, Vendrael activated the next stage.

The bow, still wrapped in thin layers of eidra, flared again.

Each arrow embedded in the dragon’s body glowed for a moment before erupting in fiery blasts that lit up the sky like a storm of fire and ash.

*BANG! *BANG! *BANG! *BANG! *BANG! *BANG! *BANG! *BANG!

The dragon recoiled midair, its body flinching with each explosion, wings faltering under the repeated shockwaves.

The dragon was clearly hurt.

Its wingbeats grew uneven, its body shook with strain, but it still refused to fall.

With a growl that trembled the skies, it flapped even harder, pushing against the damage, fighting to stay in flight despite the pain. Snow whipped around them, the blizzard raging harder now as the battle pressed on.

"It’s already weak!" Vendrael shouted, his voice barely reaching through the winds. His eyes locked on the beast, searching for any sign it would fall.

But the dragon still endured.

Then, stepping forward, a figure appeared behind Vendrael—Jirael, his twin sister.

She raised her long, gleaming staff into the air. Despite the roaring blizzard, a soft yellow light began to glow from its tip, pushing gently against the darkness.

"I got this!" she shouted, her voice was clear, full of certainty.

The light from her staff pulsed brighter, strong enough to cut through the snowstorm.

With a sudden crack of light, massive chains of glowing eidra appeared from thin air.

They shimmered as they twisted in the air, infused with raw energy, and launched toward the dragon with incredible speed.

The chains extended fast, elongating with each second they traveled. The air around them hissed and cracked as they cut through the storm.

Then, with a sharp and echoing,

*CLANG!

one of the chains caught the dragon by its leg, wrapping tightly around the thick scaled limb.

"Bring it down now!" Jirael shouted, both her hands holding onto the staff as it pulsed harder. The chain trembled, pulling against the dragon’s weight, and her boots skidded forward in the snow from the force of the struggle pulling her.

Zendrell gritted his teeth and ran to her side.

Without a word, he grabbed the chain and wrapped his arms around it.

His muscles bulged as red eidra surged across his body, coiling around his arms, chest, and shoulders.

"RAAAAGH!"

With a roar, he yanked hard, slamming the chain downward.

*Shriek!!!

The dragon shrieked as its leg was forcefully pulled. Its wings tried to keep it flying in the air, but the sudden pull made it lose balance, its body twisting as it started to fall.

With a heavy, thunderous,

*CRASH!!!

the dragon smashed into the ground, sending a thick plume of snow blasting into the air around it.

"Come on!" shouted Zendrell, already moving.

He drew his longsword from the sheath at his hip, the blade humming as red eidra wrapped around it like steam rising from molten steel.

Vendrael and Jirael followed close behind, not hesitating as they dashed across the snowy battlefield.

With each step Zendrell took, the snow beneath him rippled, pushed away by the force of his strength.

His sword gleamed brighter, the red energy dancing around the blade as he leapt high into the air.

His arms raised over his head, the sword angled downward, and with a mighty scream he came crashing down, swinging the weapon with all his might.

The air around him distorted from the swing, the red eidra screaming as it carved through the sky.

But just before the blade could land on the dragon’s neck, the massive beast opened its jaws wide, its mouth emerging suddenly from the thick mist of the storm.

With terrifying speed, it lunged toward Zendrell, its teeth gleaming sharp as ice.

*ROAR!!!

"Shit!" Zendrell growled, eyes widening, but before he could be bitten clean through, a chain snapped around his waist and yanked him back just in time.

Jirael had acted fast, her eidra wrapping around him and dragging him away from the deadly bite.

The dragon’s mouth slammed shut, teeth clashing with a metallic crack, just barely missing him.

Still, one of the fangs grazed Zendrell’s arm, slicing a thin line through his skin.

Blood splurted out, hot against the freezing air—but only for a second. The wound sealed almost immediately, healing on its own as if nothing had happened.

Vendrael didn’t waste the chance.

He skidded across the snow, dropping low as he slid. His energy bow reformed in his grip, pulsing brighter than before.

This time, he summoned a single massive arrow, one that glowed fiercely like a bolt of lightning. It shimmered with raw eidra, the power dense and heavy.

With a snap of his fingers, the arrow was loosed.

*CRACK!!!

It screamed as it tore through the air, aimed straight for the dragon’s skull. The wind roared louder around it, parting in its path.

But the dragon wasn’t foolish. With a swift twist of its neck, it avoided the strike, dodging the powerful shot just in time.

Vendrael smirked.

He had expected this.

"Burn!" he shouted, clenching his hand.

The glowing arrow pulsed once more midair, and then exploded in a brilliant blast.

From its core, a massive transparent ring of eidra burst outward, pulsating in rhythm like a heartbeat.

Then, from that glowing ring, thousands of small energy arrows rained down like a storm.

*crack! *crack! *crack! *crack! *crack! *crack! *crack! *crack! *crack! *crack! *crack!

They pierced every inch of the dragon’s body—its back, wings, neck, legs, even its jaw—each one digging in deep.

The beast cried out in agony, its roar mixing with the howls of the storm. The blizzard itself seemed to tremble from the sound.

"Let’s finish this," Zendrell muttered.

His eyes sparked with energy as he gripped his longsword with both hands and sprinted forward once again.

Behind him, more chains from Jirael’s staff lashed out, flying past Zendrell and wrapping tightly around the dragon’s limbs, locking them in place—its legs, arms, wings, and even its neck, all bound by chains.

The dragon was trapped, its body struggling but unable to break free.

It roared and thrashed, but it couldn’t move.

Zendrell stopped just in front of it.

The red eidra on his body cracked louder, his blade glowing hotter. He planted one foot into the snow, the ground cracking beneath him.

"RAAAAAAAGH!"

With a deafening scream, he swung his blade upward, pouring everything into the strike.

*crack...!

The blade cracked further, glowing like molten rock, and from it came a massive wave of red eidra.

*BANG!!!

The wave surged from the base of the dragon’s body, traveling all the way up its chest, through its throat, and then to its head—completely splitting the creature in two.

For a moment, the dragon remained still.

Then, its sliced body slowly tilted, and both halves fell apart with a crash.

*Bang!

Blood sprayed through the snow, painting the storm with dark red mist.

Zendrell let out a long breath, a cloud of frost escaping his lips as the wind howled around them.

The blizzard hadn’t stopped.

"Mission complete," said Vendrael, stepping beside Zendrell and placing a hand on his shoulder.

"This should be enough quota. We’ve already killed more than twenty."

Zendrell gave a half-smile and nodded.

"Come on then, let’s return to camp."

They turned and began walking away, their figures dim in the storm.

Zendrell turned his head slightly, seeing Jirael snapping off one of the dragon’s long fangs, tucking it into a pouch on her belt.

"Hurry up, Jirael! Or you’ll be left behind!"

"All right!" she shouted back, her voice carried by the wind.

But once the two had vanished into the white distance, Jirael remained.

Her expression shifted.

She pulled something from inside her cloak—a strange amulet with sharp edges, gold in color, but surrounded by a dark, twisting aura.

It pulsed faintly in her hand, humming with power.

She raised it toward the fallen dragon.

At once, black eidra shot out from the amulet, slithering like living shadows.

The dark energy traveled over the slain beast, covering its body, wrapping around each broken limb, tail, wing, and head.

With a sharp snap, the eidra devoured the remains.

The entire corpse vanished.

There was nothing left.

No blood.

No bones.

Only the snow and the howling wind.

Jirael quickly hid the amulet back in her cloak and looked around, scanning the area to see if anyone had seen.

No one was there.

She exhaled and turned, making her way back through the storm toward camp.

"T-This... should save him..." she whispered, her voice shaking.
