Chapter 78: Chapter 78 | Wall

"Come on!" shouted Emera as she dashed toward Kain in a sudden blur,

*Thud! *Thud! *Thud!

her fist already drawn back, ready to strike.

Kain reacted on instinct as soon as she moved, raising his sword and gripping the hilt tightly as he leapt backward.

He recalled the techniques drilled into him by his old mentor.

Even without a shield, the movements remained the same, only the execution needed to be sharper, more cautious as he held nothing to protect him from attacks.

He leaped just enough, allowing Emera to close the distance on by her own—until she entered his range.

In one fluid motion, Kain lunged his blade forward, driving his sword in a precise thrust aimed straight for her face.

But Emera was fast.

Faster than what he had expected.

She twisted her body at the last possible moment, the blade’s tip grazing just past her cheek as she moved in with explosive force—arm already shooting.

*BANG!

Her fist slammed hard into Kain’s stomach.

"Urgh!" Kain coughed out, the impact sending a jolt through his body as he skidded backward, the force driving his feet through the dirt.

Still, he didn’t fall.

He planted one foot down, steadying himself as he stared back at her.

His body ached—but his grip on the sword remained firm.

Yet this time, Emera didn’t charge at him.

She stood still, planting her feet firmly on the ground.

A confident grin curled across her face as she raised her hand, extended her arm, and flicked her fingers in a smooth, taunting gesture—beckoning Kain forward.

"Come on, Kain! I haven’t seen it yet!" she shouted, her voice sharp with challenge.

"Your eidra—use it more!"

Kain’s eyes widened at her words.

Use your eidra more?

The phrase echoed in his mind, louder than the thudding of his heart, louder than the pain he could feel on his stomach.

He knew how to call on it.

He’d done it before—wrapped it around his arms, used it to push his body beyond its limits. That amber light always came when he needed it.

But he didn’t understand it.

Not like the others seemed to.

What did Emera mean by more?

To Kain, his eidra was just... power.

Raw force, an extension of his will.

But if there was something deeper to it—some hidden part he hadn’t touched yet, then he needed to reach it.

And fast.

There was only one path to the answer.

He had to fight.

He clenched his jaw and steadied his breath.

Slowly, the faint pulse of amber began to radiate from beneath his skin, flickering like a heartbeat. It climbed up his arms, coiling around his shoulders, trailing behind his legs like a subtle flame.

It wasn’t stable—but it was there.

Waiting.

Kain lowered his stance, both hands gripping the hilt of his sword as his muscles coiled like a spring, ready to burst.

Then he moved.

*Bang!

"Yargh!"

With a shout, he charged forward, the ground kicking up behind him as his feet thundered across the dirt.

The amber aura flared brighter around him, just as usual—it was part of the attack that he always had used before—infused into his motion in every step he took as he charged towards Emera.

He raised his blade, his eyes—sharp and locked on Emera.

I need to understand what my eidra truly does!

If he didn’t understand it now, he decided that it would be best to bring it out in training—than to be left vulnerable when a real fight occurs.

He had to.

For himself and for his friends.

He must get stronger.

"Then I’ll bring it out of you," Emera muttered, her voice low as white eidra crackled across her limbs like lightning jumping between each nerve.

Her posture dropped slightly as she leaned forward, the air around her thickening with tension.

Then she launched.

*Bang!

The sound of her dash exploded like thunder, and the earth beneath her shattered with large cracks

Kain felt it.

The pressure in the air.

The deadly intent radiating from her every move.

He saw it in her eyes as she cocked back her arm—this was no playful spar.

This was an attack meant to break through.

Killing intent.

And in that moment, something inside him stirred.

A deep, rhythmic pulse.

Not his heartbeat—but something different.

Something buried deeper.

His eidra.

It surged through him like a powerful flame—a blazing inferno, wrapping around his nerves, urging him—survive.

His muscles moved on instinct.

He raised his arm just in time.

Then

*BANG!

A deafening crack split the air as Emera’s punch collided with his arm.

The impact kicked up a blast of dust and wind, forcing the nearby onlookers to shield their faces.

For a brief second, everything was still.

Then, as the dust began to clear, Emera’s mouth curved into a faint smirk.

Her fist rested against Kain’s forearm, a trail of white eidra flickering off her knuckles.

But his arm—his body, stood firm.

No blood.

No fracture.

No pain.

Kain blinked, his breath shallow.

He felt the power in her blow—but it hadn’t broken him.

It hadn’t even left a bruise.

His eyes widened.

Something was different.

His body—no, his eidra—wasn’t just reacting.

It was protecting him.

His other hand holding his sword moved before thought could catch up within his mind, instincts screaming to counterattack.

The blade arced cleanly through the air in a fluid motion, slicing toward Emera with strength he had always used in his attacks—eidra infused.

But Emera danced back, agile and composed, her white eidra flickering faintly as she raised her arms again.

"That’s your eidra, Kain," she said, her tone laced with satisfaction, maybe even pride.

"Make sure to remember it."

Kain stood there, breathing hard, his sword at the ready.

The lingering pulse of power still hummed beneath his skin.

And even if only a sliver—

He understood.

His eidra didn’t just enhance his body.

It was tied to his will.

His instinct to survive.

It turned his body into a wall, a shield, something unbreakable when it mattered most.

A bulwark forged not from brute strength...

...but from courage.

And at long last, he had begun to grasp it.
