Chapter 62: Chapter 62 | Their Eidra
"Take this!" he screamed, his palm slamming on the ground.
A jagged spike of ice then bursted from the earth with a loud
*Crack!
Shooting upwards like a spear, aiming directly at the charging beast. The ice glinted subtly, fast and sharp, as it made its way towards the beast.
But before it could hit, a second one moved in from his side, closing in on Verhedyn’s blind spot.
"Verhedyn, dodge!" Ophelia shouted, her voice sharp and urgent as her eyes locked onto the incoming threat which was an arm already mid-swing towards Verhedyn.
Verhedyn ducked instinctively as soon as he heard Ophelia’s voice.
*BANG!
But the beast still hit him.
The massive arm of the beast struck him across the shoulder, sending jolts across his body.
But fortunately, just before the impact, Verhedyn managed to coat his shoulder in a shield of hard ice—thin, yet strong enough to absorb ’some’ of the force inflicted on him.
*Crack!
Yet the shield cracked under the pressure.
The power behind the beast’s strike launched him through the air.
"Argh!’ Verhedyn grunted as his body crashed into a thick tree with a deafening
*Crack!
The bark from the tree cracked and exploded, Veryhedyn’s back hitting the trunk hard as blood sprayed from his mouth on impact—the force, knocking the wind from his lungs.
"Verhedyn!" Orin called out, her voice piercing through the sound of battle.
She stood just a few meters away with Vox, both busy and locked in combat with the other creature.
Her violet eyes narrowed as energy burst from her hands—urgency laced in her expression.
An orb of violet light appeared on the beast’s shoulder they were fighting, exploding and taking a chunk of its flesh.
*SHRIEK!!
The beast shrieked in pain.
Without hesitation, Vox followed up as arcs of lightning shot from his hand, striking the monster, making it reel backwards in pain.
On the other side of the battle, where Ophelia and Orin were, the beast lowered itself in all fours and began to charge towards Verhedyn who was incapacitated.
It wanted to finish Verhedyn.
Wanting to kill him.
Yet a golden flare pierced through it.
*zzzBANG!!
Ophelia rushed forward just in time, her hand glowing golden bright as she unleashed a blast of radiant light.
Golden rays tore through the mist and slammed into the beast’s skin—the light sizzled and burned through a part of its flesh, smoke rising from it as the beast cried in agony, stumbling sideways from the pain.
Ophelia bought enough time for her to arrive near Verhedyn.
She dropped beside him without hesitation as her hand pressed against his chest, golden light flowing from her palm into his body.
Warmth spreaded out through his chest, through his skin, then into his bones.
It wasn’t just heat—it was life itself, wrapping around his wounds and pushing out the pain.
Seconds passed as he drew in a deep breath.
The pain in his shoulder faded, the sting on his ribs vanished, and his breath now came easier.
"Thanks," Verhedyn said with a sharp tone, his eyes snapping open.
In one smooth and quick motion, he rose to his feet, the energy within his body fully restored—ready to fight once again.
There was no time to speak any further.
The beast had recovered and was already charging at them again, claws raised, and eyes filled with fury as the ground rumbled with each step it took.
*SHRIEK!!!
The beast shrieked in fury, a high pitched roar that rattled the trees—its jagged arms stretched wide and serrated edges gleaming like a guillotine with bloodlust as it made its way not towards Verhedyn, but Ophelia herself.
It had deemed that she was a greater threat than Verhedyn due to her powers.
But Verhedyn acted fast.
Without hesitation, he snapped his fingers.
*SNAP!
A sharp crack echoed, followed by a sudden frost that crawled across the ground as if it was alive.
A trail of ice shot forward, slithering beneath the beast’s feet like snakes, before erupting upward, locking the beast’s limbs in place.
*SHRIEK!!!
The beast roared in frustration as its legs froze and was locked by a thick and cold ice.
"NOW!" Verhedyn shouted, his voice sharp.
Ophelia nodded without a word as she lifted her hands, golden light building quickly in her palms—before forming into a single concentrated light beam.
She then thrusted her arms forward.
*BANG!
The golden light fired, bright and blinding.
It struck clean towards the beast’s chest, punching a hole through both flesh and bone with force.
*SHRIEK!!! *SHRIEK!!!
Once again, the beast shrieked, louder this time—its cries filled with agony and rage.
*THUD! *THUD! *THUD!
It flail widely, clawing at the wound in its chest as the golden energy burned from within as smoke and sparks poured from its body, stumbling forward.
It began to repeatedly roll itself over, as if the light hadn’t just pierced its flesh—but instead,
It’s very soul.
Then, in one last effort to survive, the creature opened its wide mouth.
A thick unnatural mist poured outside of it, spreading fast around its body—completely concealing itself in the thick wall of mists.
"It’s trying to escape!" Ophelia said, eyes focused on the mist yet she couldn’t see the beast anymore. "Shit!"
But Verhedyn knew what to do at that moment.
He stood firm, arms raised as several razor sharp shards of ice, hovered in the air around him.
Each shard was like daggers, small, but surely deadly.
The very air shimmered cold as the shards began to spin in place, like a swarm.
"Doesn’t matter if you can’t see it," Verhedyn spoke, his eyes narrowed through the location where the beast disappeared.
With a single motion of his hand, the ice shards launched ahead like a swarm of missiles, striking into the mist blindly.
*Swoop! *Swoop! *Swoop! *Swoop!
*Chuck!!
*SHRIEK!!
"You just have to barrage in that general direction," Verhedyn continued, "Until you manage to hit it."
Just as Verhedyn said, a shriek pierced through the mist as his ice daggers managed to hit the beast even if it was concealed—the beast’s mists around it disappeared, revealing itself once more.
The beast’s cry echoed as several of the icy daggers found its mark, stabbing deep into the beast’s body from beneath the wall of mists.
The impact forced it to stumble, limbs thrashing and claws dragging on the forest floor.
Yet Verhedyn was relentless.
He snapped his fingers with a resounding
*Crack!
As the shards embedded in the creature’s flesh began to suddenly pulse, beginning to grow and crack—splitting as the ice expanded from within its flesh.
*S-SHRIEK!!!
The beast roared in pain, shifting its weight on one side, but the growth of the ice around its body, made its movement heavy and sluggish.
It could barely stay upright.
Just as Verhedyn said, the beast shrieked as his shards managed to pierce and find the beast from beneath the mist.
Then with a snap of his fingers, the ice sharps began to crack and grow even more larger, making the beast shift its weight one side, making it inevitably slower than before.
"Finish it off, Ophelia!" Verhedyn quickly followed.
"Got it!" Ophelia responded instantly.
Her hands lifted as golden energy already spiraled into her palms—her fingers glowing golden bright as she summoned even more eidra than before.
*zzzzzz
The light pulsed, building in strength and size.
Until it blazed.
*zzzZZZZ!!!
As if there was a sun in her hands.
*ZZZZZZZ!!!
"YARGH!" with a shout, she thrusted her arms forward.
*BANG!!!
A massive beam of golden light surged through the air and struck the beast directly in the head.
The force of the blast was incredibly devastating, the head of the beast evaporated in an instant, blown apart into burning fragments.
The creature’s body stood still for a brief second—before collapsing backward with a resounding
*Thud!
Lifeless.
Motionless.
It didn’t even get to scream.

Across the other battlefield, Orin and Vox also finished their own fight.
Orin hurled a burst of her explosive violet eidra that detonated on the beast’s flank, while Vox unleashed chains of electric burst from his hands.
The lightning crawled across the beast’s body, wrapping it, and shocking it into a violet twitch before it crashed into the first—smoke rising from its scorched skin.
And just like that, both the monsters were down.
As soon as both of the beasts died, the mist that had clouded the area began to fade.
The sound of the wind returned, brushing of the leaves, and the light piercing through the canopies touched their skins once again.
For a brief moment, only silence remained.
Then, ragged breaths filled the air, followed by a collective sigh of relief among the children.
"Well, that’s done." Verhedyn exhaled, patting his knees and brushing the dirt of his clothes.
He looked around at his companions.
"Ya’ll alright?"
"What do you think?" Orin replied, raising one brow.
"Let’s move. We must find the others before night falls."
Vox lets out a long exhale as the electric energy surrounding him began to fizzle out.
The glow of the veins along his arm disappeared and dimmed as he adjusted his glass.
Yet he froze.
His eyes narrowed in realization.
"Wait... I hear somethin," he said, voice low.
The others tensed as soon as they heard him, their knees bending and lowering as they braced for another fight.
Then, they heard it too.
*Crunch! *CRUNCH!
Faint crunches, high above, followed by the sound of something scraping across wood.
*Skrrrrr!!!
"There!" Ophelia pointed upwards, eyes gleaming.
"It’s Garan!"
A tall and muscular figure descended from the trees above. Garan scraped his sharp claws against the bark of a thick three as he glided down—before landing with a solid
*CRUNCH!
Against the ground.
He then stood upright, eyes sharp and glowing yellow beneath his mane.
Then, a smirk curled at the corner of his mouth.
"I told you..." he said, voice low, "I’ve memorized your scents." He let out a snarl.
