Chapter 101: Chapter 101 | Eidric Force
*BANG! *BANG! *CRASH!
Their strikes echoed in the air like roars of thunder, each collision between blades shaking the earth beneath them.
Every clash sent shockwaves across the field, forcing loose stones to skip across the snowy surface, the sound deafening as if they were like drums of war.
The intensity of their duel was enough to make the surrounding soldiers hesitate, retreating just a few steps while keeping a tight formation around the still whirring device that continued to transmit energy towards the monument.
"get to the rallying point and send a distress signal, right now!" one of the soldiers shouted, voice raised above the noise commencing in the background.
Another soldier, already holding a small scanner device in his hand, responded immediately.
"On it!" he said and took off at a sprint, weaving between soldiers and fallen debris as he made his way toward the outer edge of the battlefield.
But just as he reached a safe distance, a piercing shriek tore through the sky.
*ROAR!!!
A shadow swooped down from above—massive wings blotting out the light.
A Dragon.
It descended powerfully, its body long and sleek, mouth already wide—its teeth serrated and many.
With terrifying precision, it snatched the fleeing soldier in its jaws, biting down with a crunch before ascending rapidly into the air.
"A-ARGHHH!!!"
The man’s screams were swallowed by the wind as he was carried upward, limp and disappearing into the swirling snow.
More screeches followed, echoing through the frozen battlefield.
The sky turned black with wings as other dragons circled above like vultures sensing blood.
Their shadows danced along the snow-covered ground, stretching over the soldiers like an omen of death.
"Shit!" a soldier shouted, his voice sharp with panic.
"Dragons abound—we’re surrounded!"
Another soldier, gritting his teeth, cocked his energy rifle.
The weapon came to life with a high-pitched whirr as glowing blue lines pulsed along its sleek yet durable body.
"No use running now," he said. "All we can do is protect the device. At all costs."
Then, raising his weapon, the soldier fired a powerful blast of concentrated eidra at Garian.
*zzzPOW!!!
The glowing projectile struck Garian just as he was mid-swing, causing him to flinch—his footing shifting to the side slightly.
"All we can do is assist!" someone else shouted, rallying to keep Garian at bay.
"Aye!" exclaimed the soldiers in agreement.
Zendrell, seizing the fleeting moment of vulnerability, launched a brutal punch toward Garian’s exposed side.
*BANG!
His armored fist slammed into Garian’s side, the impact sounding like a hammer against metal.
Garian staggered, caught off balance, his body twisting just enough for Zendrell to reach forward and wrap his hand around the back of Garian’s neck.
"Grit your teeth if you even have any motherfucker!"
With a powerful grip, Zendrell yanked Garian’s head forward and smashed their foreheads together.
*CRACK!
The resounding crack was fierce.
"Fool," Garian muttered, his voice grim. "Your attacks will not work on me."
He grabbed Zendrell’s arm with one arm wrapping around it, locking it just below the shoulder.
His armor clamped down like a vice, holding it in place.
Zendrell tried to jerk away, but the pressure was unyielding.
Garian’s armor, fused with dark eidra, had a strength that defied natural force.
With a vicious upward motion, Garian slammed his knee into Zendrell’s elbow.
*CRACK!!!
The joint snapped with a sickening crunch, the sound echoing through the battlefield like a tree breaking in half.
"Argh!" Zendrell growled, pain flaring in his voice. But he didn’t falter. His focus held steady.
Without hesitation, Zendrell raised his sword with his other hand and slashed downward in a clean motion, severing his own trapped arm to break free from Garian’s hold.
Blood and energy burst from the wound, but Zendrell leaped backward, retreating swiftly and landing in a crouch.
"COVER FIRE!" a soldier yelled, and the entire platoon opened fire in unison.
*zzzPOW! *zzzPOW! *zzzPOW! *zzzPOW! *zzzPOW! *zzzPOW!
Eidra blasts filled the air, streaks of light cutting through the mist and snow.
The energy rifles screamed as their chambers glowed with heat.
Wave after wave of firepower rained down on Garian, each hit landing against his armor with a dull thud.
But it was useless.
The blasts struck him, but Garian didn’t budge.
The impacts sparked against his corrupted armor, but he walked through the storm of fire like a god among men.
"Hahahaha!" Garian bellowed, his laughter booming over the cacophony of gunfire.
"Is this all you’ve got?"
He marched forward through the mist, steam rising from where the blasts had melted snow around him.
His eyes glowed red beneath his helmet, cutting through the haze as he pressed on toward Zendrell.
Then, without warning, Zendrell burst forth from the snow-mist with his sword raised high. He swung it down in a powerful arc aimed straight for Garian’s skull.
But Garian reacted just in time.
He brought up his massive sword, blocking the attack with a thunderous clang.
*BANG!!!
The corrupted black blade met Zendrell’s crimson weapon, the force of their clash sending shockwaves across the ground.
Steel groaned as they pushed against each other, sparks flying from the edges where their blades connected.
"Mhm," Garian hummed, glancing toward Zendrell’s arm—the very one he had broken moments ago.
Now fully restored.
"As expected," Garian said, his voice filled with dark amusement.
Zendrell’s arm trembled, but it held firm.
Both of them leaned into each other, their swords locked in a battle of strength.
Snow whipped around them as their powers collided, neither giving an inch.
But then the air shifted.
A new shadow loomed above.
A massive dragon was descending from the sky, its mouth open wide, flames building behind its fangs.
It was much larger than the others, its red scales glinting with heat.
An adult—no doubt seeking revenge for the death of its kin.
"Tch!" Zendrell clicked his tongue, his eyes flicking up for a second.
The dragon was coming in fast, targeting the ground where him and Garian stood.
Zendrell had no choice, he must dodge.
And so using his expertise in swordsmanship, he angled his blade, twisted his body, and raised his elbow just enough for Garian’s blade to slip through and make him stumble forward due to the pressure he exerted.
Without wasting any time, Zendrell leaped backwards a significant distance—the dragon following him.
He then dug his boots towards the snow ground.
He clenched his teeth, muscles tightening.
Then—without warning—he released a burst of raw eidra. A crimson wave exploded from his body, the very air around him distorting and trembling.
His veins bulged, his body glowing with a red aura so intense it looked like fire.
The snow near him evaporated, turned to mist. The wind bent away from his skin as if the air itself feared his power.
Zendrell dropped his sword to his hip and bent his knees, gathering strength for a single decisive strike.
In an instant, with a crack that split the silence, he slashed.
*CRAAAAAAAAAAAACK!!!
A massive wave of eidra shot from his blade, streaking through the air with blistering speed.
It hit the dragon mid-flight, severing one of its wings cleanly.
*ROAR!!!
The beast roared in pain, spiraling out of control before crashing down near where Vendrael and Jirael fought.
The ground shook violently on impact, snow and debris kicked high into the air.
Zendrell stood tall, his chest rising and falling, his breath steady despite the tremendous power he had just unleashed.
His sword rested on his shoulder, its flat edge tapping against the armor.
A smirk tugged at the corner of his lips.
"Prepare yourself," he said coldly. "Stand and witness the strength of my eidra—Eidric Force."
Garian’s eyes narrowed, his knees bending subtly into a defensive stance.
The name stirred something inside him.
Eidric Force—Zendrell’s signature, the raw embodiment of his power.
It was strength unrefined, brutal and wild, a style that overwhelmed his enemies by sheer force of will.
Garian knew it well.
He had grown up alongside Zendrell.
Back then, Garian had been the timid one, the quiet boy lost in scrolls and history while Zendrell trained with steel and pain.
Zendrell had always been the Empire’s beast—unrelenting and fearless.
But Garian was no longer that boy.
Zendrell’s eyes narrowed as he raised his sword again, crimson eidra flowing from his armor in waves. The ground around him cracked, the snow melting instantly beneath the heat of his aura.
"Let’s see if you can fight a true swordsman," Zendrell said.
"You coward."
His words cut through the battlefield like a dagger. Garian didn’t respond.
He simply adjusted his grip on the giant sword, his fingers tightening around the hilt.
The blade’s dark edge shimmered under the snowlight.
The wind stilled.
The snow fell more gently.
And in that silence, both of them faced one another—two titans shaped by different paths, standing on a battlefield that quaked under their power.
"Come then," Garian whispered, his voice lost to all but Zendrell.
"Let’s see whose eidra will fall first."
