Chapter 283: They tried to keep the news away from him

"Geumtae, how do you know.... Minwoo?" Dongwoo asked, glancing at Minwoo.

"It’s because he’s in the video with you." Geumtae said, and their eyes widened, having a feeling that Geumtae was going to mention the video, but they could not stop him as he immediately said, "That nasty video that’s circulating the internet. You’re both in it."

Everyone went silent and what broke the silence was Lily’s purr.

Seojin and Seojun were angry, that was certain. All their efforts to leave Dongwoo oblivious of what was going on flushed down the drain so easily.

And it was thanks to this good-looking busybody who couldn’t keep his mouth shut.

"A video," Dongwoo spoke. "...of both of us?"

"Yes." Geumtae answered but felt something was odd and asked, "Hm, have you not seen it yet? If you have a phone, you should see it as the top notification of entertainment news. It’s topping the charts for some reason."

"A phone," Dongwoo said and eyed the guys behind him. " I see."

"Yes, all you need to see the video is a phone." Geum added, and Minwoo cleared his throat rather loudly, intending to stop him from speaking any further.

"Kind sir, could you please stop talking?" He asked, looking at him with cold eyes.

"Uh, I don’t know what’s going on but..."

"Thank you, Geumtae." Dongwoo said, looking up at him. "If not for you, I just might’ve stayed oblivious till it was all over."

Geumtae didn’t know if that was a compliment of real appreciation or...

He rubbed the back of his neck. Did he really not know?

He looked up at the twins, who were glaring daggers at him, and then at Minwoo, who looked at him like he would chase him through the roof.

Why did he look very similar to Dongwoo though?

If not for his glasses, he wouldn’t have been able to tell them apart.

Ah, he finally understood what was going on.

’They tried to keep the news away from him.’ he thought. ’Then, did I do something stupid?’ he furrowed his eyebrows.

Geumtae was shocked when he saw the video and though it was shot from one angle and didn’t show what Dongwoo was doing, he zoomed in and noticed that Dongwoo was facing the other way the whole time, like he was in shock.

So... He was certain that Dongwoo had been caught up in something, and the female model was just acting as the victim.

He tried calling Dongwoo to know exactly what was going on but his line wasn’t reachable.

He assumed he switched off his line so that he wouldn’t see the news, as well as all the mean and nasty comments that were under those videos.

He thought Dongwoo had fallen into depression, so he decided to visit with Lily to console him, but then he found this.

Ah, he should’ve thought before speaking.

"Thank you, Geumtae," Dongwoo said, stroking Lily’s fur, and Geumtae could no longer tell if he was thanking him for taking such good care of Lily or if he was thanking him for informing him that such a thing was going on.

The other three weren’t saying anything and... He glanced inside the opened apartment to find tech experts typing away on their laptops.

They were probably ghostwriters and bots, trying to turn the public’s direction the other way.

He did see a few of those comments. So, the twins were trying to fix the problem while Dongwoo was still oblivious. He messed up this time.

"Geumtae," Dongwoo called. "Can I have your phone for a moment?" He requested and to which they reacted,

"Hyung, you can’t..."

"Please, don’t..."

Dongwoo raised his hand to stop them. He didn’t want to hear from them in this matter any longer.

It was up to him if he was going to be depressed or not after seeing what all this was about.

Geumtae looked at the twins glaring at him and probably warning him not to take out his phone. If Dongwoo still hadn’t seen the harsh remarks that people were throwing at him, he thought it would be best if he never saw it till the hides were taken down.

So, he said,

"Sorry, but my battery’s dead." He smiled.

Dongwoo looked at him, the look in his eyes falling dark gradually.

He closed his eyes and laughed,

"I see. That’s how it is." He handed Lily back to Geumtae. "I guess I have no choice."

He said and just when they thought he had given up, he snatched Minwoo’s phone from his back pocket in a flash and ran to his apartment.

"Hey!"

They chased after him but he locked the door from the inside so they wouldn’t be able to open it with the passcode.

"Hyung, Hyung," Seojin banged on the door. "Please, don’t look at it. Don’t."

Dongwoo watched from the intercom screen as they desperately pleaded for him not to watch the video but he didn’t care anymore.

He just wanted to see what they were making a fuss about.

He sat on the couch and unlocked Minwoo’s phone. The password was their birthday. He was so simple.

Dongwoo decided to search the net, but before he even put in any keywords, he already found hashtags with his name trending.

He tapped on it, and a series of videos and posts came up.

In the first post, he found the heading,

’Upcoming Photographer tries to pull his weight and ruin the famous model’s face’

Well, what an exaggeration.

He tapped the video and the first thing he saw was Minwoo slapping Song Haijin. His words were dubbed, and the actual things he said were filtered, and they just showed ’Dongwoo’ ranting that he could do anything, and Song Haijin, being a model, did not mean much.

In simple words, the photographer was pulling his weight and bullying Song Haijin who had been in the industry for years.

They made it clear that they wanted the person who slapped Dongwoo to be the one guilty. He called his name that he was Lee Dongwoo so that was enough clarification that he was the upcoming photographer, even if he wasn’t the photographer.

They just used that in their favor.

There were more videos like that.

Videos cropped to suit Song Haijin’s favor.

The comments under those videos were cruel.

No one was a fan of Lee Dongwoo yet, so they supported the model they had been following for years and not a photographer who crawled out of God knows where with pictures that were likely not his.

Yes, his credibility as a photographer was being questioned.

People called him a cham, taking the back route to get famous. Accused of giving sexual favors just to get to where he was.

Then there was the talk of him potentially giving his hole out in order to get in the good books of investors and that was why there were so many sponsors seeing his work of ’Angel’.

He was called disgusting.

He was called a fag and a poison to society, along with his brother, whom he was shielding.

He was called different hurtful things and all for something he did not do.

Those words were ignited by Song Haijin’s people. She wanted to make sure he knew just what it meant to be gay in this industry.
