Is It Wrong To Love My StepBrother Alpha Mate? -
Chapter 96: Bringing Them Back
Chapter 96: Bringing Them Back
Magic hummed through Helena’s veins as she looked at the clouds above from the rooftop of her Sunfire City apartment.
They didn’t have much time to train her magic. Three days was all they got till the next window, which was today.
"The world has got to amaze you," Caleb said as he helped set up the rooftop. "The closest opening was really on the morning of the Blood Moon?"
Victor laughed while all Helena could do was groan.
She needed to keep her mind on the spell she was about to cast. The matter of seeing her mate would have to wait for later.
"The fact that it happens on the Blood Moon makes Helena’s link to our world stronger," Dora explained as she made sure the candles were all in the correct spot.
"Because of her mate?" Victor asked.
"He is one of her bonds to this world, yes," Dora said with a small nod as she surveyed the rooftop. "I think we’re all set."
"Really?" Helena asked, her voice shaking.
Over the past few days, Dora had recounted to her just how much power and energy it would take.
The hardest part would be latching on to her grandfather’s magic, after that things should go smoothly.
Helena felt Dora cup her face and brush a thumb over her cheek.
"You are stronger than you think," Dora told her. "You’re ready."
Helena closed her eyes and took a deep breath.
"I can do this," she whispered to herself.
"The sooner we get this done the sooner you can deal with your mate," Victor reminded.
Romeo was getting on the other Alpha’s nerves. He’d been harassing Victor for access to Sunfire prior to the Blood Moon Ball. At Helena’s request, Victor had denied all of it.
"Your warriors ready to pick up any witches and warlocks that might appear in other parts of the city?" Helena asked.
"Gavin and Aaron are seeing to that," Caleb confirmed.
"And Jonathan?" Helena asked, glaring at Caleb.
The young Alpha had been given instructions to be careful should Rebecca be his mate, and with the Blood Moon so close, Helena understood the draw.
"With Rae, Rebecca, and Norris," Alyssa said, joining them. "They’re watching over Ronan."
Helena had feared that with everything going on someone would try to take her son.
With the threat of the coven traitors and the wolves that might just be after her and her mate, she wasn’t going to risk her son, even if his birth wasn’t public knowledge.
"Focus on the spell, Helena," Dora told her. "Your son is safe."
Helena nodded as she took a deep breath and entered the circle of candles that had been set up.
"Ready?" Dora asked.
"Ready," Helena said with a nod as she began chanting the spell.
She felt as the wind began to blow and thunder grumbled in the distance.
This spell was unlike anything she’d case in the past.
Unlike all the other spells where magic flowed out of her this one crept through her skin, making her want to curse at her magic.
As the wind got stronger, Helena opened her eyes. The candles around her came to life as flames appeared on their wicks.
’Helena?’ she heard a disembodied voice call.
"Grandpa!" she shouted.
’Helena, what are you doing?’ Theodore Sage demanded.
"I’m acting as the tether, Grandpa," she declared. "You have to take it and move our people."
’Dora!’ Theodore shouted as thunder rumbled and lightning struck.
"She’s the best option, Theo, the only option," Dora answered. "Now do as she damn asked and use the tether."
Theodore went silent, but not long after a portal appeared.
"Grandpa?" Helena asked as she continued to hold the spell.
No one came through while Helena felt the spell take her magic.
"Theo!" Dora shouted.
Minutes passed and nothing happened. Helena could feel as sweat dripped from her forehead. This spell was taking from her even more than they expected.
"Theo!" Dora called again as if her voice would summon her brother.
A moment passed and then they saw a figure.
A man standing tall with people behind him.
"Theodore!" Dora called out as the figure stepped through the portal.
"Dora!" the man shouted.
Seeing Theodore in person was so vastly different from looking at him through a photo.
He looked like he’d aged, probably an effect of the magic he used when he brought everyone to the ancestral land and probably an effect of losing his son.
He still looked like an older version of her dad, but what a photo couldn’t translate was the sheer power rolling off of him. Meeting him there was no doubt that he was the Grand Warlock, no one ever felt as powerful as the man who had Dora engulfed in a tight hug.
"Mom! Dad!" Helena heard Dora cry out, drawing her attention.
Helena didn’t realize that her great-grandparents were still alive, no one had ever mentioned them.
"Helena?" Theodore asked as he looked at her, his voice shaking.
"Get everyone out!" Dora shouted at someone. "The tether is powerful but we are not draining her!"
Helena couldn’t help but smile at her Grand-aunt’s concern.
"Hi Grandpa," Helena said as a drop of sweat rolled down her cheek.
"We’ll get them all out soon," Theodore promised as he watched Helena from outside the circle.
Helena knew he couldn’t cross it, she was the tether and he was the magic that opened the portal, if she crossed the circle it would snap shut.
"Just a few more!" Dora called out as Helena’s vision grew blurry.
She could feel her eyes closing and her legs slowly bending.
"Helena, listen to me," Theodore called out. "You’re doing so well little one, your Papa would be so proud."
Helena smiled as she fought to open her eyes.
"You can do this, Helena, just a little bit more," Theodore promised her. "I’ve waited more than a decade to see you again and you’re making us so proud. Hold on Helena, hold on!"
Helena nodded as she maintained her focus.
"They’re out, you can close it, Theo!" Dora shouted.
As soon as Dora told Theo to shut the portal Helena felt her magic stop flowing out of her.
"You did it, Helena!" she heard her grandfather say as he pulled her into a tight hug. "Your papa would be so proud."
And with those words Helena let herself succumb to the exhaustion.
