Is It Wrong To Love My StepBrother Alpha Mate? -
Chapter 94: The Tether
Chapter 94: The Tether
"Helena, are you safe?" Theodore Sage’s voice asked across the vast expanse that Helena couldn’t even describe.
"I am Grandpa, but someone is helping other wolves attack the Blackmoon Pack," Helena told him. "I was wondering if you were in danger if some of those who were trapped with you wished you us harm or hurt you."
"Oh my sweet Helena," Theodore hummed. "I managed to kill those who betrayed your father long ago. But I want to hear about you, how many years have passed?"
"Fifteen," Helena admitted.
"Your mother, did she recover from losing my son?" Theodore asked, his voice shaking with emotion.
"She has, Raul, my stepfather, the former Alpha of the Blackmoon pack is her second chance mate," Helena told her Grandfather.
"Good, good, that’s good. He’s the former Alpha now so that means his son Romeo is Alpha now?" Theodore asked.
"He is," Helena said as she thought of the man she loved, her mate, the father of her son. She missed him terribly but protecting their people was her top priority.
"And did he turn out to be your mate like you always hoped?" Theodore teased.
"You knew about that?!" Helena asked, shocked that her Grandfather would know about her desire to be mated to her oldest friend.
"Helena, anyone with eyes could tell how much the both of you loved each other," Theodore said with a sigh.
"Yes, he’s my mate and we have a son," Helena confessed.
"I have a great-grandson?" Theodore gasped. "So much time has passed."
"It has indeed, Grandpa," Helena sighed.
"How I wish I could be there," Theodore lamented, his voice floating through the vast empty space.
"Then why haven’t you come back?" Helena asked ignoring the fact that those helping the wolves were some of those left behind.
"Because I can’t," Theodore admitted. "I need a tether to our world to get everyone back and not even Dora is strong enough. Wait, how did you reach me, Helena?"
"Grandmama Dora gave me a spell," Helena admitted.
"And you cast it?" Theodore asked.
"Yes, I guess I’m still casting it," Helena answered.
"Helena, this spell will drain you," Theodore gasped. "As much as it brings me joy to speak with someone from home you need to end this spell."
"But Grandpa, we need your help," Helena told him. "And if we can get you a strong enough tether do you think you could bring everyone back?"
"Helena," Theodore sighed. "The only Witch or Warlock powerful enough to be the tether is dead, your father was the only one that could hold it."
"Grandpa, what if we could find one," Helena argued. "What would Grandmama Dora and I need to find?"
Theodore hesitated.
"Helena, it’s not an easy task," Theodore told his Granddaughter.
"If it’ll bring you and the rest of the coven back it’ll be worth the challenge," Helena argued.
Theodore sighed and Helena imagined him shaking his head.
"You truly are you father’s daughter," Theodore chuckled. "Vincent wouldn’t have let me give up so easily either. The tether has to be of significant power with enough connections to those in the ancient lands and those in your world to keep him or her ancored. The tether will also have to be quite a powerful Warlock or Witch, more powerful than Dora, she will know how to test this person."
"We’ll find someone Grandpa," Helena swore.
"Even if you don’t I am proud of you and am amazed at the dediction you’ve put into brining us all back," Theodore praised her.
"Thank you, Grandpa," Helena said as her voice began to shake.
"This spell is taking too much from you, Helena," Theodore lamented. "Tell my sister I love her and miss her, and tell her that some traitors were left there, Witches and Warlocks mated to wolves. Now my dear, break the spell."
"Do I have to, Grandpa?" Helena cried.
"You do," he told her. "I’ll always be with you in Magic, now break the spell before it drains you."
Helena began to sob as she focused her attention in breaking whatever bound her to the empty space where she and her Grandfather spoke.
As her own magic cut through the bond, she cried out.
It was like she was losing him for good as if a part of her was being cut out.
Helena fell to the ground as the bond was cut.
She was exhausted and in tears.
"Grandpa!" she cried out.
"Helena," she heard someone gasp as she was pulled into a soft embrace.
She continued to cry as she felt the loss, the emptiness she didn’t know existed in the past but was all too prevalent now.
Slowly she could feel some of the memories coming back.
Her Grandfather helping her shape her magic alongside her father.
Of him chasing her as Dora called out, telling them to both be careful.
She even remembered as he tucked her into a safehouse before leaving, promising that he’d return.
She was crying, somehow she knew her father was gone.
She could remember Romeo’s arms wrapped around her as she called after her Grandfather. Somehow she knew that she wouldn’t see him again.
Eventually, Helena slowly woke up in the present.
It was Dora’s arms wrapped around her as she cried while Kara and Baron watched in awe.
Something must have happened while she was speaking to her Grandfather because the witch and warlock had gone pale, as if they’d seen a ghost.
"I spoke to him," Helena told Dora. "He’s alive, he got rid of the traitors but they’re stuck."
"Oh Helena," Dora cried out. "That’s good news. Did Theo tell you what he needed to come back?"
"He did," Helena said as she looked down at the ground. "But he said it’s practically impossible to find."
"And what did you tell my dear brother?" Dora teasingly asked.
Helena threw back her head and laughed.
"It told him to let us decide if it was doable or not," she admitted.
"What does he need, Helena?" Dora asked.
"A tether, one that’s bound to those in the ancient lands and bound to our land," Helena told her.
"Oh dear," Dora gasped. "We’ve got a lot of work ahead of us."
