Is It Wrong To Love My StepBrother Alpha Mate? -
Chapter 74: Luna on the run
Chapter 74: Luna on the run
"Are you sure about this?" Rae asked Helena, pulling her from her thoughts.
She stood by the window of their small hotel room, watching as humans passed.
"Yeah, it’s been a few months," Helena answered, her attention wasn’t exactly on their conversation.
She watched as a family walked into the park across their hotel, in between them was a little boy who kept jumping and reaching out for his mother.
Helena couldn’t help but think of the life she and Rae had left four months ago in Blackmoon. Of the love they’d abandoned just so that their people could have the leaders they deserved.
Helena jumped as she felt a hand land on her shoulder.
Her gaze snapped towards the person who had approached, but her gaze softened when she realized it was Rae.
"You’re staring into space again," Rae said with a sad smile on her lips. "You know you didn’t have to go with me."
"And let you run into the world knowing nothing?" Helena chuckled. "I wasn’t going to let you do that."
"Still," Rae said as she looked at Helena’s now swollen belly. "You should have given birth at home."
Helena shook her head.
"You saw how Romeo reacted when I was injured, do you think he would let me step out of the house if he knew I was pregnant?" Helena asked as she placed her hand on her belly. "Plus he was prioritizing the wrong things when I was there."
"He was making sure the woman he loved was safe," Rae argued. "You ran because you feared what this child would do to you, Romeo, and the pack."
"And what about you, Rae?" Helena challenged. "You seemed pretty happy in Kade’s arms when Romeo and I left for bed. What happened between then and you catching me sneaking out?"
Rae glared at her.
To this day Helena didn’t know what went down between Kade and Rae. All she knew was her best friend was mated and like her, she wanted to leave the pack.
"Have you heard if the attacks have lessened?" Helena asked Rae as she sifted the topic.
Helena and Rae had their own sources.
Helena kept in contact with her Uncle, Alpha Jeremiah, who was more than ready to send his own contingent to find her.
Rae on the other hand occasionally met up with Eleanor Silverfang who found her mate in Blackmoon.
All these meet-ups were of course in secret to avoid their mates from finding them.
"They said it’s a lot less than before we left," Rae said with a frown.
Unlike Helena, Rae refused to believe that the attacks were related to Helena potentially being the Grand Warlock’s Heir, but she couldn’t dispute the facts.
If the attacks had lessened significantly since their departure then it only meant that there was less reason to attack.
"Uncle Jeremiah said that Romeo has lessened the search parties he’s been sending out," Helena told Rae.
She knew that that news should have made her happy, but instead, she felt like her heart was breaking.
"I thought he would put up more of a fight to find you," Rae said. "I mean you guys are mated, he should be searching the ends of the earth for you."
"No!" Helena said harshly. "This is what I want."
"Helena," Rae groaned. "Stop acting like you’re strong, we both know how you feel."
Helena shook her head, denying Rae the satisfaction of being right.
"We should leave soon," Helena said as she watched the sunset in the distance. "If Romeo has lessened the search parties then we can go to my place, at least there I have friends and there’s a hospital nearby where this little one can be born."
Helena looked down and touched her bump.
Unlike humans wolves only spent four to five months pregnant, hence Romeo probably knocked her up the first time they’d slept together.
"Have you thought of a name?" Rae asked as she looked at her friend.
"I’m thinking of sticking to the Blackmoon tradition," Helena told her with a smile. "How does Ronan sound?"
"After Grandpa?" Rae asked her eyes glistening with the tears that threatened to fall.
Helena gave her a small nod, confirming that she had planned to name her unborn son after Raul’s father Rohan Blackmoon.
Romeo had grown up running after his Grandfather, declaring that he would be a greater alpha than the old man.
Unfortunately, Rohan died in the same attack that took Rae and Romeo’s mother from them.
"Thank you," Rae said as she hugged her friend. "He’ll look so much like his father."
"And I he’ll be as smart as his grandfather," Helena chuckled.
"With a mom like you there is no doubt," Rae teased as she pulled away.
Helena looked around their hotel room. They’d stayed here for over a month. They paid in cash and only went out when they needed to.
It was a human city so there were barely any wolves that could scent them.
"You’ve told Alphonse where to pick us up?" Rae asked Helena as she moved their bags to the door.
Helena nodded.
"He’ll call when he’s near," Helena confirmed.
They’d left their car two stops back, bought a new one, and sold that again to make sure that Romeo wouldn’t find them.
Since this was the last stop before they headed to Sunfire City where Helena had stayed in residence over the past ten years, she decided to ask Alphonse to pick them up.
Her friend had been nothing but supportive, constantly checking up on them even if he didn’t know where they were exactly.
Helena’s phone buzzed as a message from Alphonse arrived.
"He’s here," Helena said as she read the message.
Rae gave her a nod before opening the door and maneuvering their bags.
They didn’t bring much, but it was still more than just a single bag each.
Once they were at street level Helena scanned the lot till she spotted a black van and grinned.
"Over there," Helena said as she pulled Rae with her, eager to leave.
