Chapter 109: Moving Forward

When Helena used to imagine being reunited with Romeo, she envisioned it to have a lot of arguing, some fighting, and sex, lots and lots of make-up sex.

Life didn’t always go as planned, so with the chaos of everything around them, all Helena could recall was being in Romeo’s arms as he took them home.

As he placed her down on her bed, he pulled her close as they both let sleep take them.

Helena woke up the next day, refreshed and full of energy. As she reached over, she was surprised to find the spot next to her empty.

She quickly sat up, worried that Romeo had decided to sleep elsewhere.

"Shhh, little boy," she heard Romeo’s soft whisper. "Don’t cry, your mama needs her rest."

Helena heard her son’s soft whimpers before he fell asleep again.

"Hey," Helena greeted.

She winced. She sounded just as bad as she felt.

"Hey, Helena," Romeo said as he walked over with their son on his bare chest. "Drink some water."

Helena nodded as she took a sip from the cup on her bedside table.

"I hope you don’t mind, I moved Ronan here last night after we got home," Romeo told his mate. "I felt like it was important that we slept here all together."

"Ronan usually sleeps here with me," Helena said. "I needed to keep the only thing I had of you close."

Romeo gave her a soft smile and kissed the top of her head.

"What time is it?" Helena asked.

"Two in the afternoon," Romeo said.

"You should have woken me up, we still need to talk to Grandpa and Grandmama Dora, then there’s the matter of the investigation..." Helena could go on and on about everything they still had to do, but she stopped as she found Romeo still smiling as he held Ronan.

"You did something," she said.

"I’ve spoken to Victor," Romeo explained as he sat on the bed.

Helena extended her arms, asking for their son. Romeo smiled and handed Ronan over.

The little boy stirred but continued to sleep peacefully in his mother’s arms.

Helena looked down at her son, who had no idea how much chaos was going on in the world around him.

"I know it’s too soon to talk about it, but he’s special, Romeo," Helena said as she looked at her mate.

"He’s a special boy with a very special mama," Romeo said as he continued to watch her lovingly.

"That’s not what I meant," Helena said with a pout. "He’s not only the son of the Blackmoon Alpha and possibly the Stonehill Alpha, but he’ll also be a hybrid, and heir to the Grand Warlock. People will either want him dead or to be his friend and use him."

Romeo cupped Helena’s face and kissed her lips.

"And he will have a mother and father and whole host of families to guide him to decide which people are worth keeping around and which are just trying to manipulate him," Romeo said as he brushed the tears that had fallen from Helena’s eyes.

"I’m worried about him, I know it’s too soon, I worry," Helena said. "I haven’t had the luxury of letting this get to me since Ronan was born."

"I’m here now, Helena," Romeo said as he kissed the top of her head. "I will protect you and our son. You can let your walls down around me, and I will hold you up just as you hold me when I feel like breaking."

Helena nodded as she glanced at her son.

"He will grow up with the world on his shoulders," Romeo whispered. "But we’ll be there to help him, and if you want, we will give him siblings to share that load too."

Helena nodded as she held her son tightly.

"When you’re ready, Mom and Rae said they’ll watch over Ronan while we work," Romeo told Helena. "But if you aren’t, we can take our time."

Helena looked up at her mate and nodded.

"Let me get ready, then we can head out," she told Romeo as she gave their son over to his father.

"I’ll go give him to Mom," Romeo said as he got up, gave Helena a kiss, and left.

After a long-needed bath, Helena came out of their room refreshed and reenergized. She found her way to the dining room where her family was waiting for her, and a spread was prepared.

"Thought you might be hungry," Rae said with a shrug. "Though I doubt that you and my brother did any fucking with the baby around."

"Rae!" both Romeo and Kade growled, making Helena and Rae burst out into laughter.

Helena slid into the seat next to Romeo and let him place food on her plate.

"So, do you have a plan?" Helena asked.

"I was hoping to just follow your lead on this," Romeo said with a shrug.

Helena took another bite as she thought of the next logical step.

"We should pay a visit to Grandpa Theo and Grandmama Dora," she said as she turned to Victor who was surprisingly quiet that morning. "Do you know where Grandpa is staying?"

"We placed him in an apartment in this building," Victor said as he snapped out of his thoughts.

"Think you can arrange for us to speak to him and Grandmama Dora?" Helena asked her step-cousin.

"I’ll arrange it," Victor said as he pulled out his phone and sent a message to someone.

"What next?" Romeo asked.

"Did we get everyone in the building?" Helena asked Romeo and Victor.

"We think a few managed to escape," Jonathan said as he stood up from the couch where he had been keeping Rebecca company.

"And this one has been here too often," Romeo growled.

"Possessive ass," Kade teased, making everyone in the room laugh.

Helena shook her head as she looked around the room. It was filled with people who were her family and would be someday.

She knew Jonathan felt the mating bond that night, and she knew he wanted to speak to her about it. Maybe after they’d laid out their plans.

"Romeo, do you think we can ask the former Dark Ridge pack members who are in Blackmoon and Stonehill to identify and confirm the people we’ve caught?" Helena asked, shifting the discussion back on topic.

"Daniel, arrange for it," Romeo told his beta, who nodded in response before rushing away.

"I also want to talk to them, the former Dark Ridge pack members, both those that went with Alphon— sorry Markan, and those that went to our packs," Helena explained. "They might be able to shed some light on the presence of Witches.

"The rouges, too," Rae said. "I think you should speak to them, the ones Markan’s men approached to attack Dark Ridge and Stonehill."

Helena nodded, agreeing with her best friend’s suggestion.

"Do you know where Dora had Baron placed?" Helena asked Victor. "I know Kara is unstable, but maybe her son could shed some light on the Witches and Warlocks that weren’t forced to go to the ancestral lands with Grandpa."

"He’s in a hotel nearby," Victor explained. "The boy has proven his worth, so we let him come and go as he pleases, but his mom is still under guard."

"I want to speak to him too, send for him," Helena declared.

Victor gazed at a distance, probably giving orders to someone to get Baron.

"We’ve been monitoring the people who have left Sunfire City as well," Jonathan informed Helena. "To our surprise, not many have left."

"Why not?" Helena asked, confused by people’s decision to stay.

"They want to meet you or your mate," Jonathan explained. "It’s not every day that you have an Alpha Heir and Luna that’s also a hybrid."

"So people know that now?" Helena asked. "Like it’s public knowledge that I’m a hybrid?"

"They do," Romeo said as he made her take another bite of food.

"They’ll hate me," Helena frowned. "They might break whatever alliances they have with Blackmoon and Sunfire because of me."

Jonathan laughed and shook his head.

"On the contrary, they are quite eager to either ally themselves with our packs or prove their loyalty," Jonatthan explained.

"That’s what happens when you have the strongest entity of our generation in your family," Victor shrugged.

Helena looked at all of them, confused.

’The attacks from the former Dark Ridge pack members made them worry,’ Hera told Helena as she stirred from her slumber.

’Are you well?’ Helena asked her wolf.

’I’m recovering,’ Hera answered. ’The wolfsbane affected me more than I’d like to admit.’

’Rest, I’ll keep you updated, and maybe if you’re up for it, we can go on a run with our mate tonight,’ Helena suggested.

’That would be nice,’ Hera said as he returned to her slumber.

"Grandpa Theo and Grandmama Dora are here!" Victor said as he jumped up to his feet and quickly went to the door. "Apparently, the two ancient ones were waiting for you to wake up."

Helena laughed and shook her head as Victor tripped, no doubt her Grandpa’s handywork.
