Chapter 105: Finding Helena

For every hour that passed that they didn’t have any lead on where Helena was, the more anxious and agitated Romeo got.

At first, when they set up the command center in Helena’s living room, Romeo watched silently, waiting for updates.

They started with the cameras, most had gone offline with the explosion. Whoever had planned the attack knew that cameras would be key in identifying them.

The experts scoured hours of footage from the outskirts of Sunfire City but to no avail.

Everyone coming in or out of the city was checked. Every car, searched.

"They didn’t leave the city," Rae argued. "We’ve checked every exit even the sewers, they didn’t leave."

Romeo could hear the frustration that laced Rae’s voice. He felt the same way. They’d searched every option and route the captors could have taken, there was no way out.

Romeo closed his eyes and took a deep breath.

’Can you sense them? Can you feel the bond?’ Romeo asked Ryder.

’Can you?’ his wolf asked him back.

Romeo sat down and focused on his breathing. He searched for the familiar bond that tied him to his mate.

Even when she’d blocked him out and ran away, he could feel some of her emotions. He could tell if she was far or near. It was that very bond that kept him sane all those months.

"She’s in the city," Romeo said as he snapped his eyes open.

’Can you reach out to them?’ Romeo asked Ryder.

’I think I can get a message through, but I don’t think they can get a message to us,’ Ryder told Romeo. ’Whatever was blocking us earlier has weakened.’

’Thank the Goddess,’ Romeo said.

’What should we tell them?’ Ryder asked his human counterpart.

’Tell them that we love them, that we met our son, and that he is amazing,’ Romeo said. ’Tell them we will find them, we’re working hard to find them.’

Romeo felt as his wolf shifted, probably trying his best to get the message across.

’It is done, I hope it got through,’ Ryder told Romeo as he retreated to rest.

It seemed that getting a message through was harder than Romeo had expected. He could feel the energy that it had taken from Ryder.

"Are you sure?" Victor asked Romeo.

"Oh he’s sure," Kade said, growling at the Alpha.

Despite Rae explaining to her Mate what had happened, Kade still took a dislike to Victor.

Honestly, Romeo found it quite amusing, since Victor was technically family to them now and they would be seeing so much more of him around especially since Helena had named him Ronan’s godfather.

Romeo gave Victor a nod as he paced across the room.

"I want everyone accounted for," Victor suddenly said, his eyes lighting up as if he’d come up with an idea. "Whoever orchestrated this attack is from Sunfire City. They’re familiar with the cameras and with the streets of the city."

"Are you telling me one of your pack members took my mate?" Romeo growled, charging at Victor.

Several of the warriors in the room got into position, ready to protect their Alpha at a moment’s notice.

"Stand down," Victor said, rolling his eyes.

When his warriors calmed down, he turned his attention back to Romeo who was still fuming.

"Sunfire City isn’t home to just the members of the Sunfire pack," Victor snapped. "We allow almost anyone to call our city home as long as they abide by our rules, one of which includes identification."

"So you can use that to figure out who is still missing?" Daniel asked. The young Beta was the only one who remained calm, sitting on the couch, waiting for his orders.

"We’ve already identified all of the dead, even those among the attackers who apparently were citizens or visitors of Sunfire," Victor explained.

"How did they get through?" Romeo asked. "I thought this city was safe."

"It is safe," Jonathan answered as he came down from the second floor of Helena’s apartment.

Romeo had his suspicions as to why the young Alpha kept going up there, but he had other problems to deal with.

"Our city is safe, but the people who attacked had no priors, there were no indicators to tell that they were part of some rebellion," Jonathan argued.

Romeo glared at Jonathan but bit his tongue.

"How fast can you find who is missing?" Rae asked.

"An hour or two?" one of the warriors behind a computer said as he continued to type away. "There are thousands of people in the city, especially with all the guests."

"Run it," Victor said. "I want that information as soon as possible."

"Yes, sir," the other warrior, a woman said as she and the others got to work.

Romeo stood up and paced the length of the living room, watching as the warriors got to work searching whatever databases they’d been talking about.

He could see that he was making them anxious, but he really didn’t care. They needed to find his mate or at least a lead or he was going to lose it.

Romeo had been so absorbed in his thoughts that he didn’t notice his mom come down.

"Sit down," Alyssa ordered, drawing everyone’s attention. "You on the computers keep working and find where the hell my daughter is."

Romeo sat on the couch as Alyssa approached and placed his son in his arms.

He could feel himself calming down, something about having his son in his arms eased his anxiety.

"Better?" Alyssa asked.

"Much, thanks Mom," Romeo said as he pulled his son close.

"You need to let these people work, Romeo," Alyssa reminded him. "Do not scare them."

"I’m sorry," Romeo whispered, annoyed that his mother was scolding him like a child.

Ronan was the perfect distraction, waking up and smiling at his father. Romeo spoke to him as if he could understand.

"I think I found something," the she-wolf said, her voice shaking.

"What is it?" Victor asked as he moved closer.

"Alpha, I’m not sure, but one of the missing wolves was a friend to Luna Helena," the she-wolf said as she pointed at a name.

"That fucking asshole!" Victor roared.

Romeo watched as Victor began mobilizing his people. He stood up, with his son still in his arms, and took a look at the name on the screen and felt his blood boil.

If that man took his mate he would pay dearly.
