Infinite Paths: The Raging Phoenix
Chapter 1308 - 1308: Distance

"I guess we are only lacking in the greed department," Rain thought. "Without fighting them, we can't tell what kind of sin the lords will have, so we can't plan ahead that much."

Rain was curious about what kind of skills he would get from greed, but that could wait. It was bound to fall on their hands, eventually, after all. Rain, little did he know that obtaining such knowledge would change the situation forever…

"I think I am about to make a breakthrough regarding the system that is being used in this prison," Sakaki suddenly said. "To complete the piece of the puzzle, we only need one more thing."

"Is it about greed?" Rain asked.

"That is right," Sakaki said.

Rain found himself unable to get rid of the persistent thoughts that circled in his mind. The idea that the prison system, the sins, and corruption power were very connected intrigued him. As he thought over the situation, a realization began to take shape, a revelation that could potentially unveil the underlying mechanisms of their predicament.

If the connection between the sins, corruption, and the prison system was as clear as he suspected, it explained the formidable powers and skills associated with each sin. It also sheds light on the nature of the adversaries they faced, enemies with high levels of corruption power, serving as living embodiments of the sins.

However, a subtle confusion emerged in Rain's observations. Despite the undeniable influence of the prison system, this particular zone seemed to deviate from the established patterns. The influence of the system decreased in importance, leaving Rain to question the precise nature of this change.

It hinted at the possibility that another layer of complexity existed within the prison's design, awaiting discovery.

"Since the enemies were unable to improve their classes here, they were forced to create territories and develop their armies," Rain thought. "That would explain why they have potential and a lot of energy at their disposal, but they don't look particularly fearsome despite being here for hundreds of years… Esmeralda and the others changed things here… and I guess we did it as well."

"I feel like once you analyze a path with the power of one of the sins, things will change forever here, so you should be careful about making this decision," Elisabetha said.

She had a point, and Rain had the same feeling… adding all that to the fact that they had just found Esmeralda's group, perhaps it was best to avoid that for now. However, there was one thing that complicated things for Rain to make that decision… Sealyn's and Van's child.

If he were to bring that up, Rain was aware that most of them would agree that they needed to do their best to destroy the prison and its system, but the costs of that would be an issue.

"For now… I won't bring this possibility to the others," Rain said. "I was planning to tell them to focus on finding an enemy with that kind of sin, but it is better to avoid that."

"I wonder for how long it will be possible to avoid this," Elisabetha said.

Rain rolled his eyes since Elisabetha just raised that death flag and waved it around with all her might. While Rain was thinking about that, the others returned from a mission where they checked the possible targets for the next attack. Once that was done, they called out for a meeting.

"They are a bit far away, but we have three possible targets now," Sealyn said. "They are the sealed ones, the golden golems, and the chimeras."

The sealed ones were a mysterious group of monsters that had an eerie resemblance to mummies, yet their unique twist set them apart. Encased within elaborate golden coffins, these mummified humanoid creatures possessed six arms and wings, presenting an unsettling sight.

The golden golems, in a very clear contrast, were exactly as their name implied, towering constructs crafted entirely from shimmering gold. Each golem stood as a testament to the precious material that composed its formidable form. Their imposing stature and gleaming surfaces reflected the durability that defined their essence.

The chimeras were a more complex and diverse group that defied easy categorization. Their composition was a patchwork of various enemy types, representing a combination of creatures they had encountered and defeated throughout their prolonged stay in the zone. This amalgamation of body parts from different foes showcased the adaptability and resourcefulness of these adversaries.

The chimeras presented a multifaceted challenge, with unpredictable combinations of abilities drawn from the diverse enemies that made their composite forms.

"This could be bad… I am pretty sure the golems and the sealed ones will have the power of greed," Rain thought. "Even if they are ignored now, it won't be for long."

Even if the group decides to ignore them for the next mission, they will be targeted on the one after it. Rain couldn't help but think that he should come clean with them, but saying his thoughts out loud will only make things more difficult in the long run… using Telepathy will be pretty obvious as well.

"The golden golems seem like the easiest targets," Terra said. "They might be durable, but they shouldn't be that adaptable."

"Gold can be affected by exposure to strong acids or alkalis, which may lead to corrosion or chemical reactions, albeit at a slower rate compared to other metals," Sakaki suddenly said. "High heat can alter the structure of gold, leading to changes in its physical properties.

While gold is highly resistant to heat in normal conditions, extreme temperatures or prolonged exposure to elevated temperatures can cause deformation. That should decrease their fighting capabilities… the answer is fire magic."

"What do you think, Dad?" Sealyn asked.

"... Not much…" Rain said. "I am dealing with some issues regarding the new paths, so I will leave that problem to you guys. Focus on what you think is the best, and that will be fine in my book."
