Infinite Paths: The Raging Phoenix
Chapter 1297 - 1297: Keeping distance

The skill Mana Sword received 15.000 experience points.

The Skill Scholar's Insight received 15.000 experience points.

The skill Critical received 15.000 experience points.

The mechanical knights fell in droves… a single dark mana sword pierced the heads of three of them and made them fall, and thanks to the leveling up speed of the skills, they began to pierce even more.

The creatures soon assumed a phalanx formation to defend themselves from attacks from all directions, but it didn't take long for their shields to crumble… they adapted their strategy rather well considering the first fight, not well enough to make Rain dance at the palm of their hands.

"You will run out of mana pretty fast like this," Elisabetha said.

"It is fine," Rain said.

As the battle continued, Rain's calm demeanor remained unchanged despite Elisabetha's worries. Since Rain didn't reset the level of the Wrath path, Elisabetha assumed that the rage might be influencing him, but his composed attitude suggested completely the opposite. Besides, Rain's meticulous plans began to show the desired results as the mechanical knights faced a devastating blow.

In less than two minutes, fifty of them were obliterated, prompting the remaining forces to retreat hastily.

The mechanical knights, their once-coordinated formation now disrupted, hastily retreated with their guard up. Their metallic bodies moved in a defensive manner, shields raised, and weapons ready to counter any potential attacks. The quick and unexpected assault had caught them off guard, and the surviving knights were determined to regroup and reassess the situation.

However, the intense battle took its toll on Rain as well, leaving him with only twenty percent of his total mana. This showed the extent to which he had pushed his abilities to the limit in the fight against the mechanical knights.

As the enemies withdrew, Rain took a moment to catch his breath… only a moment, though, as he made his doppelgangers retreat, and then he dashed toward the other sides of the walls.

"Hmm? Aren't they doing pretty well despite the increased numbers?" Rain thought.

The dark trolls would be the easiest targets, so Rain dashed toward them first… only to see Jori swinging down his sword and then firing a blast of crystal clear mana toward a group of dark trolls and completely obliterating them… it was the Excalibaaa technique. Rain had named that, even though Jori never accepted the title.

Regardless, five dark trolls were decimated instantly, thanks to the attack.

On the sides, Rain saw Terra punching the dark trolls and making them explode in the air. Her gauntlets looked like they were made of dark steel since she was using the power of wrath, but at least she looked composed enough to jump to the side, and before the pieces of the monster could fall, Reca would step in and then stab the parts of the monster with her spear covered in dark flames.

Danny was with them as well, but he took a support role to heal the squad members who were trying to buy time for those three, causing a lot of damage. That was their teamwork, and they were pretty good at it.

When Rain went to check the other battlefields, he saw the arcanists retreating already… those guys sure were quick to do that. They were pretty good at it as well. They left while making some purple spheres fly in the air, and when Rain approached, they began to approach and follow him and block his path.

Rain increased his speed to dodge them, but soon, they began to explode and expand. The energy quickly reached him and seared his skin… it didn't have any heat in it, but it made him feel like it was burning… the first layer of his skin on the parts hit had been burned… and it seemed that it ignored Rain's defenses.

"Don't chase them," Asche shouted. "Once you get caught in several explosions, you won't escape the next ones."

Rain sighed… at least he could see some bodies of the arcanists on the ground… he decided to check them later, but soon he saw the yellow mist moving away… the battle was over pretty soon since the enemies underestimated their growth.

"How are the others?" Liss asked.

"They are mainly fine," Rain said when he landed. "We were ready for this, after all.

With a careful touch, Rain lifted the hoods, revealing the otherworldly appearance of the arcanists. Their heads were elongated and thin, distinctively different from the human norm. Four eyes, evenly spaced on their faces, showed no light in the aftermath of the battle.

The lack of hair on their bodies accentuated the alien nature of their appearance. Tribal-like tattoos adorned their entire bodies, intricate patterns that seemed to tell a story only they understood; Rain could sense a bit of energy on the tattoos as well.. The combination of their elongated heads, multiple eyes, and unique markings set them apart as a race with a distinct culture and history.

Rain studied their features, recognizing that these arcanists were unlike any humanoid enemies they had faced before. The encounter with these mysterious beings added another layer of mystery to the zone…

"They look… quite distinct," Liss said while furrowing her eyebrows. "Are their tattoos related to their powers? They are glowing in purple tone a bit."

"It could be," Rain said while rubbing his chin thoughtfully. "I guess their tattoos have similar effects to runes. Anyway, their bodies don't have many wound marks."

"I targeted their spirits with special arrows," Asche said. "Sloth-filled arrows made them fall from the sky to their deaths since they are incredibly weak physically."

From what Rain had heard, the arcanists were quite versatile, but they used magic for everything. To fly, to defend, to attack… maybe they were good at that because they were extremely weak physically. That would explain why they always tried to keep their distance from Rain. He was their worst nightmare in more ways than one.
