Infinite Paths: The Raging Phoenix -
Chapter 1271 - 1271: Sneaky
Rain's eyes widened with realization as the pieces of the puzzle fell into place. The invisible attackers weren't merely copying the skills they witnessed; they were using the power of Envy to hit their targets, stealing the skills directly. It was a dangerous and unexpected twist that added a new layer of complexity to the situation.
"They're not copying... they're stealing," Rain muttered, a hint of concern tainting his usually composed expression.
Sealyn's brows furrowed as she grasped the gravity of the situation. The enemies weren't just mimicking their abilities; they were actively robbing them of their skills. It wasn't an instantaneous theft, but the stolen skills disappeared from the victims' repertoire, making them unable to reequip or use them.
"That's... troublesome," Sealyn said, with her mind already working on potential strategies to counter this new threat.
Rain nodded in agreement, realizing the implications of this skill theft. It wasn't just about losing a single battle; it was the possibility that, over time, the enemies could amass a collection of stolen skills, essentially gaining access to the entire path system. Such a scenario could tip the balance of power significantly.
"We can't let them keep stealing our skills. It might not be an immediate threat, but in the long run, it could give them access to the paths," Rain said. "We need to find a way to counteract this."
Sealyn used her magic to create a frosty wind barrier that kept moving around the group. With that much, that should be able to sense the enemies or at least some use of magic and react before the same thing happens again. After that, they began to move once more.
At the same time, Rain couldn't help but worry… if the enemies could do that much, they probably could create an enemy with several skills as long as this one keeps hitting the others that stole the techniques. That was probably really hard to deal with… but at least it would mean that they wouldn't have to kill countless monsters in order to recover their skills.
"Ugh…"
Despite the group's best efforts to create a protective barrier and confuse the invisible enemies, the relentless attacks persisted. The frosty wind barrier initially thought to be a deterrent, proved ineffective in preventing the enemies from striking.
Rain observed Sealyn, who, despite her unwavering focus, shook her head in frustration. Her inability to sense the enemies' approach added a layer of difficulty to the situation. The mysterious nature of the attackers continued to pose a significant challenge, and it was clear that a different approach was needed.
Rain's analytical gaze swept the surroundings, searching for alternatives. The group needed a solution that went beyond barriers and illusions, something that could disrupt the enemies' ability to steal skills upon hitting.
The gravity of the situation pressed upon Rain as he contemplated the next move, realizing that a more unconventional strategy might be the key to overcoming this mysterious and dangerous enemy.
Rain probably could erect his domain, even Sealyn could to completely sense the approach of the enemies, but that would make them reveal a card that they didn't want to. One that might make the enemy completely give up on attacking them, and that would make it even harder for them to recover the stolen skills.
"Sealyn, create a water vortex around us and expand it," Rain said. "We will force those guys to show up in one way or the other."
Sealyn nodded and then did exactly that… as the water vortex began to expand, Rain pointed his hands in opposite directions and began to emit his mana. Before long, the water vortex began to emit a dark glow, and when it touched the trees…
As the expanding water vortex touched the dark trees, an astonishing transformation unfolded. The water, infused with Rain's wrath, exhibited an ominous dark glow. With each contact, the trees seemed to disintegrate into ashes, one by one, as if succumbing to an unstoppable force.
The dark water, imbued with the destructive energy, swirled around the area, leaving a trail of destruction in its wake. The trees, once concealing the invisible enemies, now crumbled into remnants.
The disintegration of the darkened trees mirrored the potency of Sealyn's water magic and Rain's wrath, a formidable combination that showcased the destructive potential born from their unique abilities. The revelation forced the invisible enemies to move the open, and shadows from the trees began to move away.
"Let's see for how long you can do this," Sealyn said while furrowing her eyes.
"Let's just move around and spread the destruction while we conserve our strength," Rain said. "Everyone will use their magic to expand the vortex, but with just enough mana to recover soon."
Rain almost told them to use Glutonous Aura, but it was better to wait for it a bit more… until a large number of enemies showed up. Everyone nodded, and they began to work on it. Thanks to that, the dark forest began to be destroyed at a fast rate.
"While we have some time, we should check the others," Sealyn said. "Connect me with Telepathy as well."
"I guess now is the best time for that," Rain said and then activated the spell, there was no point in holding back.
"Are you fine using wrath? Weren't you trying to calm down earlier because of it?" Sealyn asked when the connection to telepathy started.
"I am fine, don't worry about it," Rain said.
Sealyn, ever attentive to Rain's well-being, used the pretext of discussing his use of wrath to check on him discreetly through their telepathic connection. Aware of the heightened tension and the pressing situation with the invisible enemies, she sought to ensure Rain's emotional state without causing unnecessary concern among the rest of the group.
Rain tried to keep that problem hidden, but it looked like his acting skills could do some work… everyone already had enough problems, so he couldn't afford to trouble them with his own issues.
