Infinite Paths: The Raging Phoenix -
Chapter 1268 - 1268: Effectiveness
Sealyn's caution wasn't merely a tactical decision; it was also influenced by personal considerations. Being pregnant, she recognized that she could no longer engage in battles with the same intensity and strategy as before. The limitations imposed by her pregnancy meant that she couldn't fight at full power in the manner she desired.
This realization compelled her to adopt a more careful and strategic approach to ensure the safety of herself and her companions.
Furthermore, Sealyn acknowledged the significance of obtaining more powers from the territory lords. These additional abilities would not only enhance their strength but also provide them with a broader range of options and tactics in their battles.
The cautious stance was a calculated measure to secure these powers first, allowing them to face their enemies with a more formidable arsenal and, in turn, minimize the risks to their group.
In the end, Rain learned that using Glutonous Aura was easy, and to make it level up was even easier despite the costs and benefits at a low level… he just had to stay close to a bunch of people monsters, and that would be all. Still, everyone couldn't help but look at him with annoyed eyes since he was obviously messing with them.
"It is hard to focus when you are draining my mana. Go play in the corner over there," Sealyn said.
Rain shrugged… he was also a bit tired and stressed, but it seemed that the others were having a much harder time keeping their cool. It was understandable, but letting out their frustrations on the fights was a better answer than being grumpy all the time.
"Aside from Glutonous Aura, I should choose some skills to focus on depending on the enemy that we will face," Rain thought. "Since the undead king and the giant lizards have been dealt with, we have four options. Lord of the zombies, slime doppelgangers, Yellow Mist clan, and the arcanists."
The strategic analysis led Rain to a single conclusion. The immediate threats in their proximity, namely the Lord of the Zombies and the Slime Doppelgangers, demanded their attention. Ignoring these closest adversaries posed a potential risk, as leaving them unchecked could result in surprise attacks from behind while the group engaged other enemies.
To ensure the security of their position and eliminate potential surprises, Rain and his companions resolved to prioritize the elimination of the Lord of the Zombies and the Slime Doppelgangers in their upcoming battles.
"We will have to split once again," Sealyn said. "Since everyone looks like it would be a bad idea for me to head to that swamp, I will be on the group that will fight the slime doppelgangers. As for the others that will accompany me… I guess either Dad or Grandpa will do."
Arel provided some information about the Slime Doppelgangers, detailing their ability to assume the forms of their enemies and replicate their skills. While these adversaries displayed remarkable durability and an expanding arsenal of abilities, their inherent strength did not pose a real threat.
Sealyn, having experienced the relative ease of the battle against the giant lizards, remained composed and confident that a small group would succeed there.
The strategy employed in the previous encounter, with Sealyn attacking from the backlines while Terra and Seara efficiently dispatched the immobilized enemies, proved effective.
Sealyn's lack of visible concern stemmed from the successful tactics employed against the giant lizards, reinforcing her belief that a similar approach could be equally triumphant against the Slime Doppelgangers, even with only one more squad working with hers.
"Considering that poison and curses are one of the best weapons of the enemies on that giant swamp, it makes sense that we would need a larger group to deal with them," Seadrei said. "However, these slime monsters are making me worry for reasons that I can't explain. I believe it would be better to wait until the next group arrives and joins you two. The next is Liss, am I right?"
"Yes, however, her squad will be in a bind. They will need to learn about the whole situation to act accordingly," Sealyn explained. "And it will be better to give them the time and energy to obtain those paths and focus solely on them until they are completely mastered. If things get dicey, we will retreat. We won't take any chances."
"... Very well," Seadrei said after he crossed his arms and closed his eyes.
Seadrei, though harboring some concerns about the strategy, recognized the futility of further argument. Understanding Rain's protective nature, especially considering Sealyn's pregnancy, Seadrei knew Rain wouldn't allow any reckless decisions or actions. Sealyn, having learned from Rain's words and recent scolding, had refrained from any hasty actions.
Despite these assurances, Seadrei couldn't shake off his worries entirely. The information about the Slime Doppelgangers was limited to just their name; the identity of their leader remained unknown. The uncertainty added a layer of unease, but Seadrei acknowledged that Sealyn's cautious approach was the most prudent course of action.
As the group prepared to face the challenges ahead, Seadrei maintained a vigilant stance, ready to adapt to whatever surprises the impending battles might bring.
"That is decided then," Sealyn said. "Prepare accordingly. We will depart in three hours."
The group began to move, but Rain stayed behind because it looked like Sealyn wanted to talk with him. She didn't seem serious, so Rain didn't think that the talk would be about something concerning.
"Hey, Dad. What are you going to do with the cores?" Sealyn asked.
"For now, I will just keep them until I have some ideas… why do you ask?" Rain asked.
"I was wondering if we could use them in junctions with the related paths," Sealyn said. "Wouldn't that double their effectiveness?"
"It would, but the risks would be doubled as well," Rain said. "You are the last person who needs to feel angrier, hungrier, or dispirited because of the sins. Those can affect your mind and thus your body and child."
