Infinite Paths: The Raging Phoenix
Chapter 1249 - 1249: Empowered

The next phase of the battle started… Sealyn summoned an even longer line of water, and she spun it around and sliced the monsters that were approaching… Still, the number of monsters was just too massive, and soon they closed in.

"Door of Babylon!" Rain said and then summoned and fired countless mana swords toward the horde of insects.

The blades pierced through dozens of the flies before they could finally dissipate. That showed how resistant and powerful Rain's magic powers were. Thanks to that, the monsters were stopped, but not for long.

"Dad, get serious," Sealyn said.

The insect queen kept shouting, and its goal wasn't only to power up the flies. Her shout also made the creatures heal… even after their bodies were split in half or were completely lost some parts of their bodies. The monster shrunk a bit thanks to that, but they still came, and even faster after that…

"Less experience… even if they are weaker, it doesn't change the fact that they are forcing us to use more mana," Rain thought.

The other members of the squads covered for Sealyn, but it was only a matter of time before they would run out of mana. Even though they were getting stronger pretty fast, they could only recover so much of it.

"Change of plans, Dad," Sealyn said. "You will… ugh…"

Before Sealyn could finish her sentence, she suddenly doubled over, vomiting a lot. Her abrupt sickness halted her attacks, allowing the swarm of monsters to close in even more. The sight of her retching was unsettling, and Rain immediately stepped forward.

Not wasting any time, Rain took charge of the situation. Enhancing the ominous blade with his mana, he encased it in a layer of ice, transforming it into a massive ice sword. With a swift motion, he set the icy blade in motion, creating a colossal spinning fan of destruction in front of them.

The frozen sword sliced through the approaching flies, smashing them aside like fragile insects caught in a hurricane.

The ice-encased sword not only provided a formidable defense against the monstrous swarm but also served as a powerful offensive tool. The freezing cold emanating from the blade added an extra layer of lethality to each strike, further incapacitating the corrupted insects.

Despite Sealyn's sudden illness, Rain's quick thinking and the newly formed ice sword created a temporary barrier against the relentless onslaught. However, with the insect queen's influence still at play, the battle was far from over, and the group needed to adapt swiftly to the evolving threat.

"Are you all right?" Rain asked after he approached Sealyn.

"I am fine… just dizzy with all this noise," Sealyn said.

The conditions of the zone, and now the attacks of the insect queen… it made sense that Sealyn would eventually feel sick. That zone truly was a bad thing for the sea folk, and since she fights on the frontlines, it was even riskier for her. People like Seara would be fine since she was usually mainly magic, and Seadrei was a tough dude.

Sealyn was tough like Rain, too, and she had the best of both worlds, but even so…

"Wait…" Rain said. "Are you…"

Rain didn't ask that out loud, but after using healing magic to make Sealyn feel better. He immediately was able to tell that she was pregnant. The pieces of the puzzle fell into place in Rain's mind. Seadrei's recent change in demeanor, the harshness, and impatience—all of it made sense now. He must have learned about Sealyn's pregnancy, likely through Van.

The worry for his granddaughter's safety, especially in the midst of a dangerous battle, had understandably shifted Seadrei's focus and behavior.

As the grandfather of the unborn child, Rain experienced a whirlwind of emotions—surprise, concern, and a keen sense of responsibility. However, a pragmatic switch flipped in his mind. The ongoing battle demanded his undivided attention, and there was no room for emotional turmoil. The revelation would have to be set aside for a later, more opportune moment.

Resolute and composed, Rain acknowledged the newfound understanding but remained steadfast in his commitment to the immediate threat. The battle with the insect queen and her swarm required their full attention and strategic prowess. Personal matters, while significant, would have to wait until the looming danger was dealt with.

"Return to the support role, Sealyn," Rain said. "We will talk about this later."

Rain immediately summoned a pair of giant earth arms and legs as well. The plan was to retreat if things got too troublesome, but that kind of enemy was an annoyance that he decided to get rid of immediately. With that in mind, he used the power of his rage to change the surface of those into obsidian, and then he charged toward the beast.

The swarm of insects tried to block Rain's path, but they exploded when they collided against him. When the insect queen saw him approaching, she immediately began to fly backward and made her sound magic grow more powerful… the flies started to get more vicious, and they ignored his charge.

Before long, some flies actually managed to bite Rain, and in a fraction of a second, they sucked a bunch of his blood… Rain felt his shoulders getting weaker due to the sudden blood loss, but he soon cut them down while making the ominous sword spin around him.

"You aren't going to escape," Rain said when the insect queen turned around and then began to fly in the opposite direction.

Rain looked over his shoulders and then saw half of the insects following him. They began to emit their sound magic to disturb his movements, and that slowed him down a bit until they formed another wall in front of him… but Rain kicked the air and passed through the wall.
