Infinite Paths: The Raging Phoenix -
Chapter 1240 - 1240: Possession
"You seem to be smarter, but he has the best body," The demon king inside Seadrei's body said. "While you two came from the same planet, you are from different species, and the nature of your power is truly interesting. To think that an unknown lifeform would help you all like this. This overseer person is truly amusing. You people are lucky."
Even if Seadrei had been naive enough to allow his body to be taken over by an enemy once again, he wouldn't have revealed such sensitive information in such a short span of time. The fact that the demon king inside Seadrei's body possessed not only his physical form but also the knowledge of his techniques and strategies raised several concerns.
It became obvious that the demon king had swiftly accessed and assimilated Seadrei's wealth of knowledge, including the details of his abilities and techniques. This implied a level of proficiency in manipulating Seadrei's mind and extracting information that was alarming.
The potential threat lay not only in the physical prowess of Seadrei's possessed body but also in the demon king's newfound understanding of their group's capabilities and plans. The strategic advantage they held over their adversaries might now be compromised, posing a significant challenge in their ongoing battles.
In the next moment, the demon king suddenly used his powers as well, and just like Rain, his new body was taken by a massive shadow in the form of corrupt power. Rain's shadow made it look like the surface of a water body since he was trying to keep that power in check, but the shadow around the demon king was moving like powerful flames upward and insanely fast.
"The Wrath's path leveled up. The Lust path leveled up. The Pride's path leveled up… how interesting" The demon king said. "How amusing for something that can quantify my power so fast to exist. Well, it is time to finish this already."
The demon king disappeared, but Rain saw a shadow crossing the ground insanely fast and passing below him.
Thanks to that, he was able to turn around and block the attack of the enemy… a single punch, even though it had been blocked by his giant earth arms, made Rain spin in the air violently… he landed on the wall behind the stone throne with his feet, but his legs still trembled a bit… thanks to the impact and the damage that it was unable to absorb.
The demon king's following attack didn't even give time for gravity to make Rain fall. He immediately tried to kick Rain's face… but the attack once again was blocked by his arms, and he was sent flying in the opposite direction. Rain slowed down by kicking the air, and that made the demon king reach him a bit faster. Then, he slammed his head with his hands together and swung it down like a hammer.
Rain blocked the attack once more, but he felt the weight of the impact and the fall on the ground below him… the shadow didn't protect him from the damage as he felt the lung leaving his body.
"This body is truly good," The demon king said. "Such a vitality, such a strength."
"Whatever, dude," Rain said and then got rid of the dust on your shoulders. "Keep those thoughts to yourself, all right? Nobody cares, nobody."
The demon king looked at Rain and frowned… he was obviously pretending to be fine, even though there was blood in his mouth. In the end, the demon king disappeared and then reappeared in front of Rain, instantly ready to hit him with a roundhouse kick, but Rain raised his left arm and blocked the attack… this time, he had only pushed away a few meters.
The demon king, for a moment, expressed genuine surprise at Rain's ability to block the attack. However, it didn't take long for him to find the source of Rain's newfound defense. He observed with a mix of understanding and slight annoyance as the shadow essence that usually cloaked Rain's entire body had concentrated entirely on his left arm.
Recognizing the complexity and mastery involved in manipulating such corruptive magic, the demon king couldn't help but acknowledge Rain's proficiency. The precise control exhibited over the shadow energy hinted at a long experience and familiarity with the dark arts.
Only someone who had delved into the depths of corrupted magic for centuries, teetering on the edge of losing their sanity, could execute such a feat. Yet, Rain, in contrast, seemed to be imitating the king in the shadows with apparent ease. The demon king's frown deepened as he pondered the implications of Rain's capabilities.
The trick behind that was simple… Rain didn't try to use his mana at all. He just tried to command his Wrath and obeyed him quite easily. The only downside was that Rain's mind was still clouded with dark thoughts that he could barely contain.
"Very impressive," The demon king said. "It seems that you will allow me to test the limits of this body through and through."
"Oh, boy… he is a talker," Rain said.
The demon king opened his mouth with a smile on his face, but he didn't have the chance to say anything because Rain suddenly punched his mouth with all his might. The demon king reacted out of instinct and blocked the attack with his left hand, but he was pushed backward a couple of centimeters, and he felt the pain in his hand as well…
The smile on the demon king's face vanished as he watched Rain assuming his fighting stance… he couldn't let an enemy of his level get carried away, so soon he summoned two spears made of darkness.
Rain remained composed, but a bead of sweat traced its way down his face as he observed the shadows taking on a tangible, physical form. The sheer energy emanating from the newly manifested weapons was palpable, and Rain sensed the formidable power they held.
