Infinite Paths: The Raging Phoenix -
Chapter 1217 - 1217: The irony of your own words
Rain's teammates exchanged confused glances, clearly confused by the suspicious conversation. The mention of using people as materials for enhancing armies left them with more questions than answers. The lack of clarity on the specifics of this world and its inhabitants added to the overall sense of unease.
Although troubled by the insinuation that the enemies were somehow like him, Rain brushed it off. He knew he was just using his intellect and healthy suspicion to navigate this bizarre environment. However, the vague warnings and ominous tone of the mysterious voice left an unsettling atmosphere hanging in the air.
"Well, it is better than letting you become materials for the enemies. I can bring you to my hideout, but you will have to deactivate all of your defensive spells."
"Thanks, but no thanks." Rain said.
"If you are waiting for someone, you don't have to worry about it. They won't come until the next day. Time passes differently here."
Rain wondered if that guy was reading his mind and saying convenient things in order to make him fall for a trap. Still, it made sense… that explained why Sealyn and no one else arrived until now.
In some areas of the universe, time dilation occurs due to the effects of gravity or motion. This phenomenon is a consequence of Einstein's theory of general relativity. According to general relativity, gravity can warp the fabric of spacetime, affecting the flow of time itself.
In any case, Rain couldn't see anything in that zone that could make time pass faster there… it was hard to imagine that the so-called administrator would use time dilation on a large scale just for funsies… which should take a lot of resources and energy as well.
"The prison shouldn't be a single place, but many places controlled by the enemies and sealed but connected to each other," Rain thought. "Perhaps time here passes many times faster than outside… the deeper we go, the harder it would become for us, and if we manage to escape, how much time would take us… while it might be decades for us, it would be only a few days or weeks outside."
"That is an interesting theory. You are completely correct."
"How is a theory, if I am correct?" Rain furrowed his eyebrows. "Anyway, there must be a celestial body with a massive gravitational pull that would cause the time dilation, and it seems that the deeper we go, the faster time would pass for us if compared to the others."
"You are right again! You indeed have the potential to become like those guys."
Rain couldn't shake off the feeling of annoyance at being compared to those who used living beings as materials to enhance their armies. The very idea of such ruthless exploitation disgusted him. While he appreciated the information about time dilation and the potential dangers within the prison, the comparison to the enemies made him uneasy.
Rain believed in using his intelligence for survival, but the thought of descending to the level of those who treated others as mere resources didn't sit well with him. Despite the unsettling atmosphere of the prison and the mysterious voice's warnings, Rain remained steadfast in maintaining his principles.
"Captain, we will abide by your decision,"
Rain looked at his teammates, and they looked serious and confident… Rain was unsure about the situation because he didn't want to cause their deaths, but then they said that kind of thing… they weren't that smart. Regardless, Rain had to obtain some information from the half that he had extracted from the king, but it seemed that Elisabetha wasn't making any progress.
"It is fine. We don't need to take any chances," Rain said. "Let's just check the area and wait until the others arrive. Let's head to the top of the mountain first."
Rain was too old to believe the words of someone whom he had never seen. He had already been scammed too many times in his youth, thanks to the internet, after all.
In any case, the group soon reached the top of the mountain, and thanks to that, they were able to see a massive swamp that stretched endlessly in all directions.
The giant swamp below them seemed like a nightmarish painting, dominated by undead trents and corpses moving aimlessly through the murky waters. The air was thick with the unbearable stench of death, even reaching their vantage point on the mountain. The undead trents, once beings of nature, now moved with a grotesque semblance of life, their limbs contorted and decayed.
The corpses, twisted and mangled, floated on the surface or stumbled through the swamp, their vacant eyes staring into oblivion.
The landscape was a haunting blend of decay and despair, with the swamp waters reflecting the sickly green glow of the corrupted atmosphere. The undead trents, remnants of what was once a thriving forest, moved in eerie synchrony, their movements accompanied by the grotesque sounds of creaking and groaning.
"That is the territory of the lord of the zombies. You might end up being pulled by some zombies as soon as you stop there. It might not be pleasant to drown there since the mud is basically acid. Speaking of which, you already saw the armies of the robot master and the demon king.
They are really good friends, they can't stay one day without sending their armies to try to conquer each other's territory.
"Why do you look so troubled?" Elisabetha asked. "You found a bird of a feather. Someone that half of what they say is sarcasm."
"The irony of your own words is lost on you, huh?" Rain furrowed his eyebrows.
"Anyway, I understand your hesitation, but it looks like this guy here knows nothing of this zone. I am forcing him to think of everything he knows, but you only took a part of him, so half of his knowledge and memories." Elisabetha said. "Perhaps it is time for you to take a leap of faith here."
