Infinite Paths: The Raging Phoenix -
Chapter 1184 - 1184: Serious talk
In the end, it took a week for the group to clear all the games and gather all the information possible from the people there. Aside from what they knew, they also obtained a few more pieces of information, but nothing concrete about the king.
Amidst the challenges and mysterious games, Rain and his companions gathered fragments of information about the five challenges leading to the next zone. The mysterious nature of the details only added to their frustration. They learned that the king in the castle was the final challenge, marking the fifth challenge in the sequence.
Each challenge, it seemed, harbored a unique weakness that could be exploited for success. However, the specifics of these vulnerabilities remained covered in mystery. Despite their efforts to get more insights, the group found themselves grappling with an annoying situation – they were given information that only served to increase their confusion.
The lack of clarity became a source of irritation for Rain and his team. It felt like they were handed puzzling pieces without a complete picture, leaving them to navigate the challenges with a sense of uncertainty.
Aside from that, they also investigated the whole town… the inns, the red light district, and all of the board shops… the woman decided to check the red light district since they assumed that the men of the group were too horny to truly take the job seriously, but they also found shirtless muscular men with oiled bodies in those places as well.
They all had many origins… ant-man, hawk-man, spider-man, iceman… it looked like the entire Marvel cinematic universe was there.
About the other options on the board, the most concerning one was the shop for slaves and battle masters… their numbers were endless and stupidly cheap as well. They even could see their images in the form of holograms, and they were all chained and looked pretty beaten.
"What the hell is this?" Terra asked.
"... They look like real prisoners," Seara furrowed her eyebrows.
Once again, the question was: how would that benefit those controlling the prison? With that much and the knowledge obtained over millions of years, it would be pretty easy for them to keep Rain and the others chained up, so those things weren't used to lure them to stay… it had other goals in mind.
While everyone was thinking about that, Sealyn asked to talk with Regis. Rain had to be intermediate between them, but that was just a minor convenience for him.
"How are things on your end?" Sealyn asked.
"We are making progress and doing what you asked of us. At the end of this week, we will be able to send five hundred more people to join you, but it doesn't look like you need manpower," Regis said.
"It almost feels like the enemies had imagined that this would be what was going to happen…" Sealyn said. "The best option for people in the third zone would be to band up together and advance to the next zone as a unity, but things work in a way to hinder that kind of choice."
The nature of the challenges made it difficult for large groups to progress simultaneously. The limit was set at five people attempting a challenge at a time. Even if some managed to succeed quickly, the number of individuals progressing to the next zone would be restricted daily.
Additionally, there was no guarantee that they would all be teleported to the same location, creating a logistical challenge for organizing a united front.
Sealyn, concerned about the hindrances to unity, spoke with Regis about the ongoing efforts. Despite the challenges, progress was being made, and reinforcements were on the way. The communication between the two groups became crucial as they tried to navigate the complex dynamics of the prison-like environment.
"... People will have to come eventually, but we won't need large groups to come at the same time," Sealyn said. "What about Esmeralda and her family? Nothing about her was found out yet?"
"Some other members arrived in the last few days, but no one related to them, and no one found traces of her family either," Regis explained.
"I see… we will contact you again tomorrow at the same time," Sealyn declared.
Sealyn rubbed her eyes while thinking about those people… even if it was something out of their hands considering what had happened, disappearing like that at such an important time really troubled the humans… Sealyn was on the frontline, and she had to look after and make decisions for the humans as well, which was difficult for her since any mistake could cause some serious and lasting issues.
"Perhaps we should let some people lead the humans until Esmeralda returns," Sealyn said. "I can't take responsibility for the humans."
Sealyn found herself waiting for someone to step forward and take on the responsibility of handling human matters. While she was half-human, she was also the empress of the sea, and if a situation arose where she had to choose between humans and the sea folk, her allegiance would lean toward minimizing the suffering of her aquatic kin.
Over the past few weeks, Sealyn had been observing Rain, hoping he would assume a leadership role when it came to managing the human aspects of their situation. Except for Roan, who stayed behind, Rain was the one with extensive experience leading large groups of humans in militaristic missions.
Sealyn's silent expectation for him to shoulder the burden remained unfulfilled, and she pondered the implications of this in the grand scheme of their predicament.
"We will figure out something to decrease your burden, don't worry," Rain said.
Sealyn let out a long sigh that spoke volumes… in that kind of situation, even if they were working together, they would need a strong leader for all the factions. The demi-humans were few in number in that mission, so the issue was the humans… She couldn't help but think of a way to force her Dad to take the role… everyone would support him, after all.
