Infinite Paths: The Raging Phoenix
Chapter 1173 - 1173: Cooperation

Orzlan, Rain, and the others took their places, ready to strategize and talk at a massively long round table. The meeting room buzzed with whispers and exchanged ideas thanks to the band leaders who arrived earlier. Orzlan began by updating everyone on the current situation in the other cities and the progress of the rebellion.

The challenges they faced were daunting, but the group knew that they couldn't afford to falter.

"Time is of the essence, so we should discuss the important matters as soon as possible and move on to the next important things," Orzlan said. "What are your plans from now on?"

"It is the same, escape and then destroy the enemy once we find them," Sealyn readily said.

"... Although, we will need some time to regroup and gather information," Regis added. "For example, how can we reach the next zone now that the beasts were killed and aren't coming back anymore?"

"The portals are automatic responses when a large amount of mana leaves the environment and is absorbed by the people around," Orzlan explained. "It is a phenomenon that can be forced as well. The mages among your group should be able to pull that off, even without dying.

You just have to show that much power and the zone will try to prevent you from staying in a place that you shouldn't be in anymore."

"How did you know that?" Sealyn asked.

"One of the founders back in the day killed the beasts many times over," Orzlan explained. "He was one of the only few that actually survived those fights and grew quite strong. Back in his time, the beasts roamed around in search of food, and their numbers were small, so the power ceiling back then was a lot lower."

Rain found Orzlan's explanation intriguing but also raised questions in his mind. The idea that the portals were created in response to a large amount of mana leaving the environment seemed somewhat straightforward, but Rain wondered if the other zones operated under the same principle. Could he replicate the process by defeating weaker creatures in those zones as well?

His experience with the giant frogs in a previous zone lingered in his mind. After their defeat, a portal had indeed appeared, allowing him to move on to the next area. It made him contemplate the possibility that the same concept applied universally across all zones. However, there was a lingering sense of mystery and complexity to the overall system, something that Rain couldn't fully grasp.

The amount of energy they lost was minimal…

"Wouldn't it mean that this place is extremely hard to maintain while keeping those portals open and connecting the zones?" Seadrei asked.

"It seems that you people are strong, but you didn't develop some special techniques," Orzlan said. "Portals don't have to consume that much energy when they keep two places connected. When there are limitations like that, they are rather cheap when it comes to the cost of maintenance."

Everyone looked at each other in confusion… it couldn't be that simple. Even if the logic was simple, that was still technically space magic. Still, now that Rain thought about it, they could just head to the places where the portals appeared and reactivate them with mana… that seemed easier and more logical.

"That is one problem solved," Rain said.

"Now, the issue about the bands that were coordinating the sacrifice, what are you planning to do regarding us?" Orzlan asked. "We already prepared everything if you wish to decide to kill us for our crimes. However, you will need to promise us that you will lead all the others to the very end."

The room was silent as Rain pondered the choices before him. The weight of the past actions and the sacrifice of millions of lives lingered in the air. Orzlan and his comrades had followed a system that demanded unimaginable sacrifices for survival, and the cycle had persisted until Rain and his friends intervened.

Rain's gaze shifted from one face to another, gauging the expressions of those around him. Some faces showed remorse, while others held a glimmer of hope for redemption. The complexity of the situation was reflected in the furrowed brows and exchanged glances.

"Killing you all would only cause problems in the long run. Besides, countless others agreed with your methods," Sealyn said. "I think they should be spared and work hard to make up for it if that is actually possible. They understand how things around these parts and the people here follow them. They can be useful to keep things organized here."

"I agree with that, more deaths won't bring the others back to life, but their hard work can prevent more of them," Regis said.

There was no pity or morals in the scene, and everyone was strictly thinking about the best outcome for the situation. Even so, that was only possible because they had a much worse enemy and situation to deal with. In any other situation, it would be insane to ignore the past… even if they had to kill dozens of thousands.

"Our choice was made then… the representant of the humans isn't here, so we will agree with you two," Roan said. "Regardless, can we try to use the portals to return to the other zones and help those who are there?'

"Portals are usually one-way roads… one is the entrance, and the other is the exit," Orzlan explained.

Rain and Sakaki observed that the more rules and restrictions a spell or technique had, the easier it became to wield and make it work effectively. This revelation became the cornerstone of their approach to research in space and gravity magic.

As they made mental notes and contemplated this newfound understanding, Rain and Sakaki decided to use these constraints as a guide, providing a structured framework that made the execution more precise and reliable.

"For now, until we wait for more help, we will cooperate to increase the strength of everyone here as fast as possible," Regis declared.
