Chapter 39: 29, everyone get up and let’s get lively!
Hearing that familiar voice, Le Cheng’s eyes lit up involuntarily. It seemed his previous guess was indeed correct: this real world was also, in some sense, a dungeon world, and moreover... it was Nightmare Level!
There are in total five difficulty levels for dungeon worlds, from low to high they are—Common, Hard, Hell, Nightmare. Each level, if subdivided, can also be graded with one star to three stars, similar to Half-step Peak Perfection, but the overall difference isn’t big. Above Nightmare, there exists an even higher difficulty, but it can only be unlocked after clearing a Nightmare dungeon first.
Since Saint Elizabeth is a Nightmare Level dungeon, then Area 51 and the No. 33 Club, which are named along with it as the Three Forbidden Lands, must also be of similar heavyweight class. Even if you look across the whole world, there must be many, many such dungeons.
Oh Moxiroi!
Le Cheng suddenly felt that things were getting interesting. With so many great places, he would never run out of excitement in the future.
He didn’t want any ten-day vacation; he wanted 996! He wanted 007!
However, one thing left Le Cheng somewhat disappointed.
"This Nightmare dungeon doesn’t award attribute points?"
Previously, the one attribute point he earned through the hidden task from the deputy at the transfer station had already been used.
Charm and Spirit are already at the peak, with no pressing need for improvement. After all, he hadn’t planned to become a true Enchanting Demon. Having acquired Breath Concealment and Shadow Step, there was no urgent need to increase speed, so he directly added to Power... a 777 Power, Body, Speed, very balanced.
And just that single point of attribute allowed Le Cheng to nearly double his strength; the effect was incredibly horrifying.
Regrettably, the Paradise Mall did not offer an exchange for attribute points, otherwise, he would probably directly go for a Deep Blue Point Adder and madly keep adding...
But unexpectedly, even a Nightmare dungeon didn’t reward attribute points. After brief consideration, Le Cheng surmised that attribute points were most likely one of the most precious rewards in dungeons, bar none.
The fact that he had obtained attribute points in his first dungeon might not have been a coincidence, but perhaps just a newbie benefit from Mother Gaia.
Mother Gaia, she truly loves me!
Sigh, from now on, I can only dedicate myself to her.
As for the remark in the notes, he glanced at it and didn’t pay it any mind.
What do you think?
Don’t tell me what you think, I want what I think!
At seven o’clock that evening, as the main psychiatrist, Le Cheng officially started his job at Saint Elizabeth Mental Hospital. Although from a certain point of view, he himself needed more treatment than others, this was not the main point. The hospital even provided him with a special female assistant.
You should know that to handle those troublesome patients, medical staff must have robust physiques and the strength to restrain patients. Hence, the nurses at Saint Elizabeth were mostly physically strong men, women nurses accounting for less than twenty percent.
And this female nurse named Catherine, merely twenty-five years old, not only had fair skin and a clear voice but also an astoundingly large bust. She was meticulous about her work, just like those female secretaries from big corporations dressed in black stockings, exuding a mature and reliable vibe.
Not just her personality, but Catherine’s figure was also remarkably reliable, her bodyweight at 180 kilograms was enough to give anyone a full sense of security. Forget about sperm extraction; if it came down to a mounted position, just one buttocks drop could blast a man’s shit out. Having such a female assistant, her supervising doctor could always maintain a clear mind, not easily distracted by lust.
"Miss Catherine, today is my first day, and I’m not very familiar with this hospital. Could you tell me about some of the rules here?"
"Of course." Catherine nodded with utmost stability, her voice humming, "Doctor Le Cheng, you are the main psychiatrist assigned by the higher-ups, your status is equivalent to the heads of departments, second only to the dean and vice-dean. You can access almost all the hospital’s records, but some top-secret files require the dean’s permission. Additionally, our hospital does not have especially strict rules, but there are a few places that I don’t recommend you visit, considering your safety. Lastly, when the clock strikes twelve at night, please return to your dormitory to rest immediately, do not delay, you are only allowed to leave your room after 6 AM."
"What if I’m still in the hospital after midnight?"
"The hospital will not be responsible for your life safety."
"So you mean, the hospital becomes very dangerous after midnight?"
"No, the hospital is always safe."
"Then why must I return to the dormitory to rest?"
"If you lack regular rest, your health will not be guaranteed. And at night, accidents tend to happen."
"I see. Thank you for the reminder, Miss Catherine."
"You’re welcome, it’s my duty."
Le Cheng looked at Catherine, who was all business, and silently nodded his head.
From this conversation alone, nothing much seemed out of place. If Catherine were from another hospital, he would think of her as a serious assistant who was earnest and not prone to frivolity. But this is Saint Elizabeth, where everything is filled with the unknown.
"Miss Catherine, I have a personal question for you. What brought you to Saint Elizabeth? If you mind, feel free to not answer."
"Money. The compensation at Saint Elizabeth is very generous."
What an impeccable answer.
"I understand. Next, I need to look up the psychiatric case files. Miss Catherine, please help me find these materials."
"How many years’ worth do you need?"
"All of them."
"No problem, please wait a moment."
Catherine bowed slightly and toddled out.
Le Cheng leaned back comfortably in his chair, taking in his office, which was bright and tidy overall, even boasting a private bathroom and a bunk for resting. Judging by its strength, the bunk could accommodate two people, and with a curtain drawn, it became quite secluded.
"It seems that the doctors here are treated quite well."
Le Cheng muttered to himself, but he figured he wouldn’t get such a chance—not that he preferred lightweight beauties anyway.
Half an hour later, Catherine returned, pushing a cart with documents roughly the size of her own figure, re-entering the office.
"These are a quarter of the psychiatric case files. If you think it’s too few, I can get more."
"No, this is enough for now. We’ll talk about the rest tomorrow."
Having been established for over a hundred years, Saint Elizabeth Mental Hospital only had this much to show for it, a mere quarter of the archives. Le Cheng even felt it was too little—probably most had been destroyed.
After sending Catherine away, Le Cheng began looking through the files.
They were all ordinary cases, none particularly noteworthy, except for some interesting ancillary illustrations from a long time ago.
One depicted a patient placed in a bath, their entire body submerged in hot water, leaving only their head exposed, similar to a corpse in a morgue. This process might last anywhere from a few hours to several days. By the time patients were fished out, their skin was ulcerated from prolonged soaking—this was the notorious hydrotherapy.
In another illustration, several robust men restrained a patient on the bed, while a doctor inserted a trephine into the patient’s eye socket, then wiggled it to remove a piece of brain tissue—this was the once sensational frontal lobotomy... The entire composition was like a comic strip, not too gory, but exceptionally horrific.
Of course, in Saint Elizabeth, such procedures were just the basics. The truly horrifying stuff was indescribable.
Ding-dong!
After reviewing the materials, the eleven o’clock bell rang, and Catherine arrived punctually to remind Le Cheng that it was time for him to return to his dorm and rest.
Le Cheng nodded agreeably and followed Catherine to his dormitory, which was rather nice, quite like a hotel. After a hot shower, he lay back in bed, turned off the lights, and went to sleep.
Until twelve o’clock.
Ding-dong!
This was the last bell of the night, the next one would be in six hours.
And as the bell rang, Le Cheng decisively opened his eyes, got dressed, opened the door of his room, and strode out.
If everyone in the hospital adhered to the "no staying in the hospital after midnight" rule, then it meant that his actions now would likely be unimpeded and unnoticed.
Even if discovered, he could first accuse the person of breaking the hospital’s rules.
As it turned out, those who could still work in the hospital generally didn’t violate the rules.
Not only the night shift staff, but even the surveillance cameras were turned off.
Except for the lights in the corridors, the whole hospital was eerily quiet, devoid of voices and insects, with only the sound of Le Cheng’s own footsteps echoing as if he were the only person left in the world.
Out of a sense of ritual, Le Cheng had even put on the ghost clothes he brought from the last dungeon world. Unfortunately, after leaving the dungeon, without the protection of Slaanesh’s Divine Power, the enhancement effect of the ghost clothes had disappeared—after all, it was just a common-grade item, so this restriction was to be expected.
Le Cheng kept it mainly for its cool appearance; Slaanesh’s aesthetic sensibility was unquestionable.
"Strange, why is there nothing at all?"
Le Cheng wandered around the hospital for over an hour, but to his disappointment, he didn’t even encounter a mosquito, let alone a Devil.
Opening the door to the morgue, a chill hit him, and the residents inside lay motionless.
"Could it be too quiet?"
Suddenly struck by inspiration, Le Cheng promptly took out his phone and played a song for everyone.
’This hit, That ice cold
Michelle Pfeiffer, That white gold
This one for them hood girls
Them good girls
Straight masterpieces
Styling while in
Living it up in the city
Got Chucks on with Saint Laurent
Gotta kiss myself I’m so pretty...’
"Sleep? Wake up, everybody, let’s party!!!"
