Chapter 219: She Is Aiming For the Kill
By the time they arrived at the Moonshade estate, the last light of day had turned soft and amber.
The wide gates opened without a sound, and the long, winding path up to the main building was lined with lanterns already glowing with warm, golden light.
The estate wasn’t flashy. It didn’t try to show off. But the quiet elegance of it—the way the trees were trimmed, how the stone steps felt like they’d been placed one by one with care—it gave a different kind of welcome.
Ethan walked between the twins, hands in his pockets. He wasn’t tense as he had been here countless times.
But his mind was still sorting out the way the day had unfolded, from the stage to the expressions on the crowd’s faces.
From the silence of the crowd to the quiet invitation for dinner.
They reached the main doorway. It slid open before any of them could knock.
And standing there, in the glow of the foyer, was Elowen.
She wasn’t in her usual robes.
Instead, she wore a deep emerald cheongsam. Sleeveless. Slit high along one thigh. The silk hugged her body like a second skin, tight across her waist, snug along her hips, and drawn perfectly over her chest, where the fabric stretched just enough to hint at the fullness beneath.
Her E-cup bust sat high and firm, the shape unmistakable even under the fine silk. The way the dress dipped slightly at the collar, then framed the swell of her chest with gold embroidery, made it impossible not to notice.
The natural curve of her figure, elegant and womanly, lent the outfit a quiet, yet alluring, quality.
Gold thread shimmered through the fabric in delicate patterns, vines curling up one side, lotus petals blooming across her waist, almost like the dress itself had been painted on.
Over the cheongsam, she wore an apron. Not a bulky kitchen one. Thin. Fitted. Black with a crimson lace trim at the hem. It wrapped snugly around her lower waist and hips, more decorative than practical—like a finishing touch meant to tease rather than cover.
Her long, pale gold hair had been pinned loosely at the back with a jade clasp, letting soft strands fall around her cheeks and neck.
Her skin—flawless and pale—seemed to glow under the warm lights, smooth like porcelain kissed with moonlight.
And her eyes—sharp, knowing, quietly amused—watched them without saying a word.
She didn’t need to speak.
She already had their full attention.
Ethan blinked.
He didn’t say anything.
Mostly because he couldn’t.
It wasn’t just that she looked stunning. It was the way she carried it. Calm. Like she hadn’t dressed up at all. Like this was just... how she was.
Evelyn noticed it first. Her posture shifted. A little straighter. Chin up.
Everly noticed second. Her eyes narrowed the tiniest bit, and she tilted her head just enough to glance at her mother’s apron.
Elowen smiled, finally.
"Welcome home," she said.
Her voice was the same as always—soft, smooth, low in volume but full of presence.
Ethan nodded. "Thanks."
Evelyn stepped in first. "You’re... cooking tonight?"
Elowen stepped aside to let them pass.
"I thought I’d try something new."
Everly raised a brow. "You never cook. Not unless someone special’s coming over."
Elowen didn’t answer. Just looked at Ethan, then back at the twins.
Then they all stepped into the entrance hall. The floors were dark marble, cool and clean. The walls held old family portraits—some painted, some taken with enchanted cameras that moved subtly when you looked too long.
The scent of spices and warm sauces drifted in from the kitchen. It wasn’t overpowering. Just enough to make Ethan’s stomach rumble slightly.
He hadn’t realized how hungry he was.
"Sit down," Elowen said as she turned and walked toward the kitchen. "It’ll be ready soon."
The sound of her steps—barefoot now—faded into the next room.
The living area was set up with long couches, a low tea table, and a few velvet cushions. The glass wall opened up to a view of the moonlit courtyard outside.
Evelyn sank into the couch slowly, her eyes still fixed on the hallway where her mother had disappeared.
"She never dresses like that unless someone she likes is visiting."
Everly flopped down beside her. "Yeah. And it’s definitely not for us."
Ethan stayed standing.
"...You think she dressed like that because of me?"
The twins spoke at the same time.
"Yes."
He looked at them both.
Neither of them sounded upset. But they didn’t sound casual either.
Evelyn folded one leg over the other and looked away from him, toward the garden outside.
"She likes you," she said simply. "She’s always liked you."
Everly leaned back against the cushions, arms crossed. "We knew it was going to happen eventually. I mean... It’s not like you’re subtle."
Ethan sat down across from them, letting out a quiet breath.
"I didn’t plan for anything."
"We know," Evelyn said.
Everly added, "That’s the problem."
They weren’t accusing him. Not really. Just stating the obvious. The Moonshade girls weren’t clueless. And they weren’t the type to pretend they didn’t see where things were going.
"She’s always been good at waiting," Evelyn said. "But when she makes a move, she doesn’t test the waters. She... moves with the aim to kill."
Everly gave a soft laugh. "And now she’s in the kitchen, wearing a dress that should be illegal, plus a lace-trimmed apron. Do you think that’s normal?"
Ethan looked down.
No. It wasn’t.
But it was Elowen.
He didn’t know how else to explain it. She was the kind of woman who did things with quiet grace, even if it caught everyone off guard.
"She’s probably not expecting anything," he said.
Everly shot him a look. "Come on. You think that dress is for cooking?"
Evelyn shook her head. "She’s been watching. Waiting. And she’s not going to compete. But if you let her in..."
She trailed off.
Everly finished for her. "You’re going to have to deal with all three of us eventually."
Ethan didn’t deny it.
He couldn’t.
Before he could say anything else, Elowen called from the kitchen.
"It’s ready."
They followed the smell into the dining area.
