Chapter 782: Chapter 781: Celebrating Little New Year_1
Su Pan’er returned to the room in silence. Qin Yi was still deep in sleep and hadn’t woken up.
"Lord Marquis hasn’t awakened yet and Nanny Zhou came to see you once, saying the young lady was crying," Uncle Xiao reported anxiously.
She had been so busy lately that she had completely forgotten about Little Yanyan.
Thinking about it now, she couldn’t help but feel guilty.
"Ask Nanny Zhou to bring Yanyan here."
"Yes, Madam. Also, where should we set up the banquet tonight? I need your instructions," Uncle Xiao asked in reference to another matter.
That’s right, it’s Little New Year today!
Su Pan’er covered her forehead — she had completely forgotten about this. For a moment, her heart ached for Little Yanyan.
"Just set up a table right here. It’ll be just the three of us dining tonight...I will go see the child." She still couldn’t put her mind at ease about Little Yanyan.
Little Yanyan hadn’t seen her mother for several days and had been crying terribly. The maids and old women who usually took care of her were all worn out trying to comfort her.
At the moment, Xiao Min was holding her and walking back and forth, gently patting her back. But despite this, Little Yanyan persisted in crying, showing no intention of stopping.
Nanny Zhou delivered a bowl of meat soup, blowing on it frantically.
"Nanny Zhou, hurry up. The young lady is crying so hard, I’m afraid she’s starving. She hasn’t eaten properly for two days."
"I’m also worried! But this child is so stubborn. She refuses to eat even when spoon-fed. She even refuses to drink milk. What can we do now?"
As Nanny Zhou spoke, she put down the bowl and pulled out a handkerchief to feed Little Yanyan.
Seeing her daughter cry hoarsely, Su Pan’er felt as if her heart was being cut open! She quickly rushed into the room.
"Madam! How did you manage to come over?"
Everyone collectively let out a gasp of surprise and promptly stood up.
The moment Little Yanyan saw Su Pan’er, she cried even harder, stretching her small hands towards her.
"Mother..." she cried out for her.
"Silly child..."
Tears welled up in Su Pan’er’s eyes. She quickly hugged her tightly and nestled Little Yanyan’s face against hers, "Silly child, you’ve suffered... my good Yanyan, my good daughter..."
Little Yanyan didn’t seem to understand completely. Cradled in Su Pan’er’s arms, she stopped crying and fussing, just looking at her with big dewy glistening eyes.
Gradually, she began to feel sleepy.
"Madam, the young lady hasn’t been eating properly for two days now, always crying..."
Whenever this was mentioned, Nanny Zhou would start crying.
The madam was busy tending to the sick and they wished they could share her burden, but the young lady insisted on seeing the madam and wouldn’t stop crying.
"Bring the food over, I’ll feed her!"
Su Pan’er sat on a chair and personally fed Little Yanyan the Lean Meat Egg Yolk Congee.
Little Yanyan seemed to understand that it was her mother feeding her. Finally, she opened her mouth and began to eat.
"She’s eating, she’s eating! Madam! The young lady is eating..."
The maids and old women all wiped away their tears.
This little child even knows who her real mother is!
"Silly child, if mother leaves and you refuse to eat, you will never see mother again. Do you understand? With everything going on at home now and your father’s injury, you need to behave yourself. Not crying or throwing tantrums is how you can help mother and father. Do you understand?"
While feeding her, Su Pan’er was gently talking to Little Yanyan in her arms.
It’s unclear if Little Yanyan understood, but she patiently repeated it over and over again.
Once she had finished feeding her a bowl of Lean Meat Egg Yolk Congee, Little Yanyan soon drifted off to sleep.
Su Pan’er, unable to hide her reluctance, wrapped Little Yanyan up in her cloak. Before she could speak, her eyes were already red.
"Today is Little New Year, so let’s let Yanyan sleep in our room. It can be considered a family reunion."
The sky outside was a dull grey. There was no snowfall, but a chilly wind was blowing.
Su Pan’er, carrying Little Yanyan and buried deep in her cloak, trudged towards the inner room, lowering her cloak even more for protection.
She walked through the winding corridors, and once inside the inner room, she didn’t wait for the maidservants to draw the curtains. She lifted them herself and entered, a wave of warmth greeting her, instantly soothing her chill.
The room was filled with a strong scent of medicine.
Su Pan’er didn’t mind, she pulled back her cloak, found that Little Yanyan was still sleeping peacefully in her arms, and carefully placed her on the far end of the bed, away from Qin Yi.
Deeply asleep, Qin Yi sensed Su Pan’er’s movements and half-opened his eyes, moving his lips slightly.
"Bring the child over. Let me see..." he asked.
Su Pan’er picked up Little Yanyan again, walked over to him, and gently placed her on the inside of Qin Yi’s arm.
"Don’t move about, be careful not to rip open your wound. Yanyan is asleep now. I thought since it’s Little New Year, I would bring her over. We should all be together as a family. Just the three of us!"
Her voice was soft, and she spoke slowly.
Qin Yi felt warmth in his heart upon hearing this. Acknowledging with a nod, he then closed his eyes to rest.
"It’s still early. Get some more sleep," Su Pan’er told him.
She carefully tucked them both in before quietly sitting on the bed’s edge, silently watching over them, watching over this frail man.
Her expectations were not high. All she wanted was for her family to be well. That would be enough for her.
The table was set quickly, laden with a variety of dishes. Su Pan’er, seeing Qin Yi still sleeping, had no appetite and continued to sit in silence.
A soft noise suddenly came from outside the window.
The sound was so faint that most people would ignore it, but Su Pan’er jerked her head towards the window.
As expected, in no time, a pig snout poked out from the gap at the window. Upon setting its eyes on Su Pan’er, the pig’s eyes brightened, and squeezed in through the narrow gap.
The piglet’s eyes scanned the table and began to wag its tail at Su Pan’er.
"How is it staying in here? Fun?" it asked.
"Fun, why wouldn’t it be fun? Of course, it’s fun," it answered.
Su Pan’er averted her attention, "What’s happening outside? Any activity? Have you been to the palace? What about the latest news from Brother Ye?"
"You asked about so many people, but why don’t you ask how I am doing?" the piglet retorted.
Without missing a beat, it jumped onto the small table, sat down, and began feasting on the food.
"If you were not doing well, could you even appear before me?" Su Pan’er responded.
She didn’t need to ask, she knew. It had only come looking for her once the delicacies in the mansion had run out.
"All these dishes, and you have to touch every one of them. How are we supposed to eat?! And you still haven’t given an update on the outside happenings," she remarked.
The piglet seemed to enjoy the meal even more at her remark.
"There are updates! But anyhow, there are many people, and they’re still fighting on the streets. I, Sir Pig, don’t know those people. I saw a lot of people killed and figured it was time to eat, so I came back. Hmm... delicious, so delicious..." it said.
It ate heartily.
