Chapter 758: Chapter 757: Encounter Danger_1
The snow outside had intensified, falling in a thick deluge that quickly painted the surroundings a blanket of white.
Su Pan’er left the palace in a sedan chair, and as expected, Qin Yi was waiting at the palace gate, frequently peeping out.
Shrouded in a thick layer of snow, when he saw Su Pan’er emerge unharmed, his face blossomed into a smile, and he rushed forward to assist her.
"How was it? Did His Majesty give you a hard time?"
"Not at all."
Su Pan’er hurriedly brushed the fine snow off his head, "Such a heavy snowfall, why don’t you take shelter in the carriage? Or at least stand somewhere out of the wind. You don’t want to catch a cold!"
"I was afraid you wouldn’t see me when you left the palace."
Qin Yi’s smile was incredibly gentle, warming Su Pan’er’s heart along.
"Such a big place, how could I miss you? Idiot!"
A gust of wind blew, stirring up a flurry of fine snow that relentlessly worked its way onto faces, mouths, and necks, inciting incessant shivers.
At this moment, the carriage arrived, and Su Pan’er quickly pulled him along.
"Quick, get in the carriage. It’s too cold outside."
Yet, Qin Yi calmly shook off the snow covering his body before stepping into the carriage.
Inside the carriage, two charcoal braziers filled with silver-threaded charcoal were burning brightly. As soon as they entered, a wave of warmth flooded over them.
Qin Yi quickly spread a fox fur on the carriage floor, carefully closing the carriage door before helping Su Pan’er take a seat.
"How unpredictable this snow is, so bitterly cold. Also, Brother Ye was also summoned by His Majesty. Did you run into him?"
Su Pan’er suddenly looked up, "Brother Ye was summoned to enter the palace by His Majesty? Are you sure you didn’t make a mistake?"
Su Pan’er was shocked!
She had talked with His Majesty for such a long time, how could she encounter others?
Furthermore, if Brother Ye had indeed come to the side palace hall where His Majesty was and seen her, he would have definitely greeted her.
Could it be possible that...?
In an instant, a possibility flashed across Su Pan’er’s mind!
Could it be... Ye Han didn’t go to His Majesty’s palace, but to the Empress Dowager’s sleeping chamber instead!
As this thought passed, her face instantly went pale.
At such a critical moment, wouldn’t Ye Han avoid even the slightest suspicion?
Qin Yi, being a discerning man, seemed to understand once he saw Su Pan’er’s face.
He gently held Su Pan’er’s hand, "Don’t overthink it, Brother Ye is not someone who’d act recklessly! Most likely it was because the Empress Dowager couldn’t directly summon him due to today’s Banquet at the Palace, so she borrowed His Majesty’s name."
"I didn’t say anything."
Su Pan’er muttered, but in her heart, she remembered that unfinished sentence His Majesty spoke to her.
Her heart pounded wildly! Hopefully, nothing unfortunate would happen.
The carriage turned onto the street.
The street was eerily silent. The strong wind, carrying the heavy snow, painted the surroundings a desolate white. The sudden snowfall had driven everyone into their houses for warmth.
The carriage forged ahead through the wind and snow, but as the day darkened, the snowstorm grew more violent.
With limited visibility, midway through their journey, the carriage suddenly jolted and stuck into a pit. Despite the coachman’s efforts, the carriage remained immobile. The coachman hurriedly checked and reluctantly reported the situation.
"Sir, the carriage has gotten stuck in a pit, and the axle bearing has broken. I’m afraid we won’t be able to move."
Qin Yi looked up at the sky; the weather always grew colder after dusk, "We can’t go on like this, you stay in the carriage, I’ll go check."
Su Pan’er poked her head out of the carriage, a gust of cold wind hit her, making her shiver uncontrollably. Recalling that she was currently in a delicate condition and should avoid the cold, she quickly withdrew.
After a while, with no sign of Qin Yi, Su Pan’er wrapped up tightly in her clothes and followed him out. Qin Yi was inspecting the axle bearing, seeing her, he quickly shouted, "What are you doing out here? It’s too cold outside, get back in! I’ll be done soon!"
Su Pan’er had no choice but to retreat into the carriage.
Before long, Qin Yi returned to the carriage with a layer of frost covering his whole body, "The axle bearing is broken, I’ve temporarily fixed it by affixing both ends with wire. That should get us home, where it’s safe."
Su Pan’er quickly helped to brush off the snow clinging to him.
"If it comes to it, we could always get down and walk a bit."
"Walk? No, your body won’t be able to endure it."
Qin Yi firmly opposed, "I’ve heard that during a woman’s pregnancy, she absolutely cannot catch a cold, otherwise, it can lead to serious issues in the future. When you were pregnant with Yan Yan, your health was seriously affected, you absolutely cannot afford to catch a cold now."
"Why are you bringing up something from so long ago..."
Su Pan’er mumbled.
Although she didn’t rebut Qin Yi, she suggested, "How about we take shelter in someone else’s residence nearby?"
Qin Yi peered outside for a moment, "If we cross one more intersection and take two more turns, we’ll be home. Considering how cold it is, we should take a hot bath once we’re home. How could any other house compare to the comfort of our own?"
Worried about Little Yanyan being alone at home, Su Pan’er quietly nodded her agreement.
The coachman drove the horse carefully. Unfortunately, without travelling much further, the carriage suddenly jolted. The entire carriage leaned and tipped over.
Su Pan’er was carried along with the tumble, thrown right out of the carriage. She attempted to brace herself mid-air, but the torn curtain had wrapped around her body, preventing her from moving. She could only watch helplessly as she careened towards the ground.
Among those thrown out was also Qin Yi!
Quickly, he shielded Su Pan’er within his embrace. With one hand, he slapped the nearby horse’s back, forcibly changing their direction mid-air. Together, they crashed heavily into the snowbank on the side, stirring up a spray of snow and creating a deep pit in the thick layer of snow.
There was no sign of the coachman, and the ejected charcoal brazier flew right out of the carriage, landing directly on the horse’s back! The red-hot charcoal fell on the horse’s mane, quickly singeing it.
Panicked and in pain, the horse suddenly neighed, kicked up its hooves and ran off!
It quickly disappeared, dragging along the overturned carriage with it!
Well!
Now they were completely stranded - without even a carriage to speak of, let alone riding in one.
"Cough, cough... Pan’er, Pan’er, are you alright?"
Ignoring his own injuries for the moment, Qin Yi spat out a mouthful of snow and immediately checked on Pan’er’s condition.
Su Pan’er rose from Qin Yi’s arms, coughing, and surveyed their surrounding.
All she saw were two long tracks extending to the end of the road, quickly filled in by the falling snow, restoring the pristine white landscape.
"I’m fine, what about you?" Su Pan’er swiftly assisted Qin Yi to his feet.
Qin Yi attempted to stand up and found himself caked in mud, with scrapes all over his elbow, but otherwise okay.
"I’m fine, just some scrapes. No big deal! By the way, where’s the coachman?"
The two of them hastily looked for the coachman, but he was nowhere to be found.
