Chapter 523: Chapter 522: How can she sit still?_1
"Bah! Those guards are bloody useless! By the time they arrive, all the people who should be killed would have been killed, and those who should die would have all died. They might as well go and collect dead bodies for other people!"
"Isn’t that right... Didn’t you guys see it? According to the people at the scene, the young lord being chased was pretty handsome! He was constantly coughing, if not for the person beside him protecting him, he would’ve probably lost his life by now..."
People were talking all around, sharing their own accounts of the events.
The more Su Pan’er heard, the more uneasy she became!
An elegant young man, speaking with an accent from the capital, and at the dock no less.
Could it be...
If something happened to that Mr. Zhao, wouldn’t Qin Yi, who was next to him...
The moment she had this thought, she couldn’t sit idle.
She tossed her chopsticks onto the table in a hurry, then threw a tiny silver ingot onto the table. "Waiter, check! Keep the change!" she called out, not waiting for the waiter to react before grabbing Little Feng’s hands and turned to sprint away!
In her heart, she was praying that things didn’t turn out as she now dreaded!
"Don’t run! You’re pregnant, don’t run!" Little Feng remembered that she was heavily pregnant.
Considering how dire the situation was, how could she not run?
With much anxiety, Su Pan’er tried to slow her steps and quickly rushed towards the dock.
Upon arrival at the dock, the sight confirmed her worst fears!
The dock was peaceful and there wasn’t a single soul in sight. The scene was totally different from the bustling picture she had witnessed earlier.
The ground was wet and soaked, and the cold air was thick with a strong smell of blood. There were goods scattered messily everywhere and small tree branches broken all over the place.
Like a gust of wind, Su Pan’er grabbed Little Feng’s hand and ran towards the merchant ship.
But the merchant ship was surrounded by soldiers, she simply couldn’t get closer.
Just as she was feeling extremely anxious, a soft voice sounded from behind her: "You must be Mrs. Qin?"
Su Pan’er turned around sharply to find a man who looked like a government officer standing behind her. Her brows furrowed. "I am. Who are you?" she asked.
"Young Master Zhao had me wait here for Mrs. Qin. Come with me, Mrs. Qin."
The officer bowed before proceeding to lead the way.
After some hesitation, she decided to follow him.
The officer didn’t glance back to see if she was following, he just continued to forge ahead, leading her down numerous streets, then several more alleyways. Witnessing that the officer was still moving onwards, Su Pan’er squinted with wary eyes.
Little Feng, seeming anxious, quietly grabbed the hem of her dress and anxiously looked at her.
The officer in front didn’t look back to see if they were following, but kept heading forwards.
Feeling a pang of anxiety, Su Pan’er raced forwards and asked out to the officer, "Sir, where are we going?"
"Where are we going? Naturally, we’re heading to Young Master Zhao’s."
The man turned to glance at her once before replying, "I’m simply obeying orders to escort you two. If you don’t want to follow, you don’t have to."
With that, he once again turned to continue marching forwards.
If he had insisted on her following, Su Pan’er might have simply not followed at all. However, the officer’s nonchalant attitude caused her to hesitate!
After a brief silence, she decided to continue trailing after him.
After crossing a few more alleyways and moving deeper into a remote area, Su Pan’er was considering whether it would be better to escape when suddenly, the officer stopped in front of a residential house.
"We’re here. Young Master Zhao is inside. Please, Mrs. Qin, follow me."
After he finished speaking, he stepped into the house straight away.
Leaving Su Pan’er behind, caught in a predicament of whether to enter or not.
Little Feng appeared even more terrified. He clung desperately onto her dress and refused to let go. The open door in his view appeared to be like the mouth of a tiger, ready to consume him at any moment.
At this point, Su Pan’er inexplicably calmed down.
She patted his shoulder, "Whether you advance or retreat, it’s the same risk. What’s there to be afraid of? Let’s go!"
With that, she strode into the house.
Despite her relaxed tone, her hand quietly reached towards her waist and held onto her Three-legged Crow Whip tightly, ready to unleash it at a moment’s notice, should anything go wrong...
Little Feng’s expression fluctuated greatly.
He seemed to have an inexplicable fear of this house. After some hesitation, he bit the bullet, closed his eyes, and daringly dashed in as if he was prepared to meet his final fate!
He ended up bumping into a soft body and opened his eyes to find Su Pan’er standing before him.
In front of them, the officer who had been leading the way was gone, but there stood two burly middle-aged female servants.
From their looks, they were used to heavy labor.
They were staring coldly at Su Pan’er. It seemed they’d detained many women just like her in the past. Usually, such a woman either ended up dead or insane, though there were a lucky few who were rescued.
Upon observing Su Pan’er’s heavily pregnant belly, they reckoned she wouldn’t give birth for a little while and had some remaining time to live.
The two female servants quietly exchanged glances, their cold eyes never leaving Su Pan’er’s thin, delicate form. They stepped forward from opposite sides, "Madam, Your servants, were ordered to attend to you. Please proceed. Please!"
Their words seemed polite, but it was quite clear that they were detaining her.
Su Pan’er didn’t really care about the two servants. Dealing with them was no more than a flick of a finger for her. At the moment though, more pressing matters concerned her. "I just want to know, how is Qin Yi right now?"
"Who’s Qin Yi? We don’t know."
The two servants exchanged glances, both wearing a look of confusion.
"If you won’t tell me, then I don’t need to accompany you two!"
Saying this, Su Pan’er discreetly stepped back.
"We’re just appointed to look after you. We really don’t know who you’re referring to."
One of the female servants was indifferent, "You look quite far along in your pregnancy, aren’t you? You should comply and stay here to ensure the health of your fetus. When it’s time for you to know, someone will tell you. Let’s go, don’t force us to get rough."
Upon hearing that, Su Pan’er’s eyes darkened, and the hand holding the Three-legged Crow Whip tightened...
"Ah! I almost forgot!"
The other servant suddenly spoke up, rummaged around in her bosom for a while before handing something over. "This was given to us by that male servant. He said to give it to you directly, and you would understand once you peruse it."
As Su Pan’er’s eyes landed on the item, they instantly lit up.
"Give it to me!"
She hastily approached and snatched the item, then clasped it tightly to her chest. "Where did the person who instructed you go? Where is he now?"
"As for other matters, we’re not privy. We just carry out our orders."
The two were unyieldingly clueless, "Madam, it’s windy outside and it looks like it’ll snow soon. You should promptly go inside so as not to catch a chill and fall ill. The one who’ll be uncomfortable is you, isn’t it?"
Despite the antagonistic qualities the two retained, Su Pan’er didn’t mind at all and strode into the house.
Seeing Su Pan’er enter, Little Feng drooped his head and quickly followed.
Upon entering the house, he couldn’t help but stop in surprise.
While the chilling winds tirelessly howled outside, the house was as warm as spring. The Silver Frost Charcoal on the ground was burning brightly, radiating warmth. A hot meal was served on the table, the rich aroma of food wafting through the air.
"Madam, you must be hungry, right? Please start eating. If you need anything, just call out to us. We are here outside," the servants said, and silently exited the room.
