Chapter 502: Chapter 501: Exploration! _1

After dark, the two of them headed straight for the Bai Residence.

The one accompanying them, besides the rascal pig, was naturally Old Cheng!

In fact, the underground labyrinth was the key attraction that drew Old Cheng to Changze County. He had ventured into the underground several times, but only dared to wander around the periphery. Once, he risked going a little deeper and ended up trapped there for three days. Had he not stumbled upon the way out, he might have starved to death.

Because of this, Qin Yi had always disagreed with Su Pan’er going down.

When the three of them arrived at the Bai Residence, possessing martial arts skills, they easily climbed over the wall, and the rascal pig waddled along behind them.

Seeing the slowly opening entrance to the tunnel, Qin Yi, still worried, continued to give instructions.

"We agreed, you’re only allowed to go to the first level, and must not go any deeper. If something seems wrong, turn back immediately. Also, remember to bring your food and water with you and never put it away. Furthermore..."

"Are you ever going to stop?"

Su Pan’er was really annoyed. Seeing the entrance right in front of her, she gave Qin Yi a slap: "Aren’t you coming with me? If so, why are you still chattering on and on? Let’s go!"

As she said this, she felt around for the rope and leather whip slung around her waist and rushed into the tunnel first.

The rascal pig’s small eyes spun around, its gaze full of mockery towards Qin Yi. It then followed Su Pan’er into the tunnel, leaving only its fat pig butt for the two to see.

Qin Yi shook his head helplessly, knowing from Pan’er’s reaction that she had not taken his words to heart.

"Pan’er is a lucky girl. You need not worry so much. Let’s go in too."

Old Cheng patted Qin Yi’s shoulder and crawled in too.

Shortly after the three of them entered the tunnel, a shadow silently fell onto the garden.

He moved quickly towards the tunnel entrance, skillfully moved beside the rockery, reached under the water to press the tunnel switch, and quickly disappeared into the tunnel.

The tunnel entrance closed.

As soon as Su Pan’er entered, a chill wind blew through. As an instinct, she tightened the gown on her body and pressed on further.

"Don’t go too fast! Beware of getting trapped in here and not getting out."

Qin Yi pulled her back from behind: "Master Uncle Cheng has been here many times, he knows his way around. We should follow him."

In her spite against Qin Yi, Su Pan’er almost forgot about the dangers of this place. At his words, she gave Master Uncle Cheng an awkward smile.

"Sorry for my rudeness earlier, Master Uncle."

"No harm done. You’re curious and hardworking, which makes you a promising student."

Master Uncle Cheng moved to the front, and advised her in serious tones: "But, you’re pregnant now, it’s better to stay behind. Even though you managed to find your way out of the tunnel last time, if you were to get trapped in there, that would be troublesome."

"Yes, Master Uncle, your admonition is very correct."

Su Pan’er listened respectfully.

It wasn’t that she didn’t understand these dangers, but she felt something inside the tunnel attracting her attention, and she wanted to find out what it was.

It was for this reason that she chose to risk entering the tunnel despite her pregnant condition.

Old Cheng was pleased with her attitude.

"Knowing your wrongs is a good first step. Observation can also be useful for improving your knowledge of forming an array. If you could solve this formation, it’s possible you could master the ancient divination methodology."

"Master Uncle, you make it sound too easy."

Su Pan’er was unwilling to reveal that she possessed the ancient divination book: "I only knew of this because Master Teacher once mentioned it, which made me curious. But to have the kind of talent to learn on my own and become proficient, I fear this formation would have long been cracked."

Master Uncle Cheng didn’t push; he just smiled and continued to lead the way, a gleam in his eye.

He knew very well that Pan’er’s "Master Teacher" had never delved into the art of ancient divination.

Yet, Pan’er claimed it was taught by her master teacher, could it be...

Everyone had their own thoughts and no one spoke further as they continued deeper into the tunnel.

Everyone descended along the stone steps. After a long while, the terrain changed abruptly and a crossroad appeared before their eyes.

"Look, this is the first level of the underground labyrinth."

Old Cheng stood at the intersection: "This place is full of crossroads, and it’s easy to get lost. Even with markers, it’s hard to find the way back, so I dare not venture too deep."

Despite Old Cheng’s repeated cautions, Su Pan’er’s enthusiasm wasn’t dampened.

Looking at several identical paths, she proposed.

"Since we are at a crossroad, why don’t we each take a different route—aside from the one we came from—and retreat if we find something unusual. How does that sound?"

"No way! If we’re going, we’re going together. We can’t split up."

Qin Yi was the first to disagree.

Old Cheng, on the other hand, pondered for a moment: "In theory, it’s safer to stick together. Although there hasn’t been any accident in the past, it’s the one in a million chance we have to worry about. If something unexpected does happen, it would be problematic."

With the two against one, there was no argument.

Old Cheng led the way, Qin Yi held Su Pan’er’s hand and followed closely, with the rascal pig trailing behind.

It squatted quietly on the ground, its little piggy eyes peering at the path they had taken. It wagged its little piggy tail and hoisted a leg to urinate on the right wall of the intersection before leisurely following behind Su Pan’er and the others.

Su Pan’er gave it a backward glare, but said nothing.

Shortly after the three, plus the pig, disappeared from view, a shadowy figure flashed at the tunnel entrance, positioning itself where the pig had urinated.

It sniffed around and then crouched down to inspect the area. Seeming to find something amiss, it cursed under its breath and then quickly pursued the direction the three, plus pig, had taken.

After it left, another shadow appeared.

It, too, crouched in the same spot...

Old Cheng led the way, winding the two around in the labyrinth. After going through only three intersections, he stopped.

"The path we took is the correct route I discovered through multiple explorations with a rope tied to me. Going any further will trap you. It feels like there are a few layers to these tunnels. Had I not been lucky, I would have starved to death. So..."

He looked at the two of them and decided not to continue.

Su Pan’er, however, was not ready to give up.

"Since we are here, why don’t we continue exploring as Old Cheng did before. What do you say?"

Neither Old Cheng nor Qin Yi spoke up.

"So, you plan to return empty-handed?"

Su Pan’er could not help but grit her teeth and forcefully shook off Qin Yi’s hand: "Fine, if you won’t go, I will!"

"Wait, I will go with you."

Unable to leave her alone, Qin Yi reluctantly followed along. The rascal pig also quickly followed suit, leaving only Old Cheng standing in place, lost in thought.
