Chapter 371: Chapter 370: The Beauty Trap, Qin Yi Falls For It (3)_1

She covered her face, sobbing in pain, slowly sinking to the ground, crying uncontrollably with her head buried under the stone table.

Such a heart-wrenching sobbing could not be feigned.

Qin Yi slowly turned around and sat back down on the stone bench.

"Have you said enough? One-sided words, I, Qin, can’t bother with those."

Qin Yi’s face was full of contempt: "Even if all you said are true, it must also be an unintentional mistake committed by Pan’er. And so what if that were the case? Even if Pan’er is full of flaws, what does it matter? She may not be the best woman in the world, but she is the only one in my eyes and cannot be replaced. I, Qin Yi, like her the way she is, at the very least, she is real and doesn’t pretend."

This statement stunned Su Yue’er, causing her to stop crying and look at him wide-eyed.

"You..."

Su Yue’er could not have imagined that Qin Yi, who usually conducts himself in a refined and courteous manner, would say such words!

"What about me? I don’t want to hear your eloquent excuses. I’ve genuinely had enough of your hypocrisy!"

Qin Yi looked at her coldly: "Even if Pan’er isn’t perfect, she is still my beloved wife, the woman I, Qin Yi, have resolved to spend my life with. It’s unlike some people, who say one thing and do another, all the while yearning for something else. Don’t overvalue your beauty, and don’t believe that everyone else is as disappointing as you think. What’s the use of your beauty? After a hundred years, we will all still turn to dust. If you’re done talking, give me back my jade pendant. Everyone should continue living their lives, let’s not shatter our last shred of dignity, it wouldn’t be a good sight."

Su Yue’er watched him, her face alternating between green and white, as if she had walked straight out of a dye shop.

Seeing her not taking any action, Qin Yi lost his patience to continue dragging this out. He got up and started to walk out.

"Wait!"

Su Yue’er screeched to halt him: "I can return the jade pendant. No, would you accompany me for a drink? Just one drink, one cup of wine will do. Let’s consider it a conclusion to our past, perhaps, it may be the first and also the last cup we share in this life."

Su Yue’er’s melancholic sigh echoed from behind, making her seem so desolate.

Qin Yi halted in his tracks and glared back at her, his eyebrows knitted into a tight frown.

"Just one cup, only this one."

Su Yue’er hurriedly implored, her face full of desperation: "After all, we were once engaged. I ask for nothing more, just this one cup of wine. After finishing it, I will return the jade pendant. After this, we each go our own way, with no further ties to each other. Is that acceptable?"

Qin Yi glanced at the wine and dishes on the table, his eyebrows furrowed!

The desire to retrieve his token overcame his rationale. After mulling over it for a moment, he slowly nodded, and strode back to the stone table.

"You said it yourself, Second Young Miss Su, I hope you will match your actions to your words, and not go back on them!"

With that said, he made for the wine jar.

But another hand was quicker!

Just as he grabbed the handle of the wine jar, a small hand clasped tightly onto his bigger one.

Qin Yi was taken aback and quickly withdrew his hand, somewhat annoyed.

He then turned to sit facing the other side, not wanting to spare her even one more glance.

Su Yue’er’s eyes were filled with profound sorrow, and tears gently slid down her cheek. She hurriedly used an embroidered handkerchief to gently wipe away her tears, trying to put on a brave smile: "I will do as I say, don’t worry Third Young Master Qin! Yue’er will pour the wine for Young Master. After this...perhaps we will never..."

As she spoke, her tears were falling freely. She gingerly lifted the wine jar, and slowly filled the wine cup.

"Ding Dong"

A tear slid down her cheek and fell into the wine cup, causing ripples to form.

Ripples formed in her eyes too, as she felt her heart thumping wildly in her chest.

Her gaze kept shifting towards Qin Yi while a faint blush spread across her face.

The wine silently overflowed from the wine cup, but she was oblivious to it.

It wasn’t until the wine flowed down the table and dripped onto her toes that she finally regained her senses as if she had awaken from a dream. She held the wine cup with her delicate fingers and gently placed it on the stone table in front of Qin Yi.

Qin Yi glanced at the wine cup, frowning, yet made no move to take it.

A flicker of realization flashed in Su Yue’er’s eyes, and she forced a smile.

Gently, she refilled the wine cup again. Raising her cup to Qin Yi, she sighed, "Yue’er may be delicate as a willow, but it seems she can’t catch the eye of the Third Young Master Qin. Perhaps Yue’er isn’t fortunate enough. Let’s drink this cup of wine and sever the ties of this life. From this day forth, we shall each go our own way in marriage. Third Young Master Qin, let’s finish this cup!"

Qin Yi hesitated for a moment, then finally picked up the wine cup before him.

"Humph! May Second Miss Su keep her word!"

Having said that, he gently raised his cup towards Su Yue’er.

Instinctively, Su Yue’er moved her cup to toast, but to her surprise, Qin Yi had already drawn his hand back.

Could he truly not accept even a simple toast?

Her eyes darkened with sadness, yet she forced a smile onto her face. "Third Young Master Qin, please drink!"

Having said that, she tilted her head back, drinking all the wine in her cup, then turned the empty cup for Qin Yi to see.

She had realised - if she didn’t drink her wine today, he certainly wouldn’t either.

"Haha!"

Qin Yi chuckled coldly, suddenly flinging his sleeve and raising an arm to cover his face as he tilted his head back.

On the surface, it seemed as though he had drained every drop of wine in his cup.

However, secretly, he had poured all the wine into his sleeve.

While he didn’t know what devious idea Su Yue’er was cooking up, his intuition told him that anything this cunning woman offered was not to be taken lightly!

A blush crept onto Su Yue’er’s pretty face.

Her beautiful eyes shone.

She gazed at Qin Yi foolishly, forgetting even to blink.

With his striking features, tall and slender figure, Qin Yi exuded an effortless confidence that inspired trust and evoked feelings of safety and warmth.

But these were not the reasons she found it so hard to let go of him. The real reason was...

Her gaze fell unintentionally to Qin Yi’s quickly dampening sleeve and the truth dawned on her, her eyes filling with tears.

Did she appear so contemptible in his eyes? Did he disdain even sharing a drink with her?

No, I absolutely will not admit defeat like this!

Never!

A complex, determined look flashed in her eyes.

"Ahem! Second Miss Su, isn’t it about time you kept your word?"

Qin Yi coughed heavily, interrupting her thoughts.

Snapping back to reality, Su Yue’er smiled sorrowfully, "Of course."

She then called out to maidservants outside the pavilion, "Someone, over here!"

"Yes, young lady."

The maidservant curtsied, before swiftly clearing the food and wine from the stone table, wiping it dry, and placing a small basket in the middle.

Accepting the small bamboo basket from the maidservant, Su Yue’er lifted the thin gauze covering it and, with evident reluctance, handed the basket to Qin Yi.

"Third Young Master Qin, these are the tokens of our engagement that you gave me all those years ago. Please, take a look."
