Chapter 219: Chapter 218: People Don’t Mean Harm to the Tiger, But the Tiger Harms People!_1
After a hearty round of drinks, most of the fine wine had flowed directly into Su Pan’er’s stomach. While she drank unrestrainedly, enjoying a sense of pleasure, her belly finally reached its capacity.
The peace of the evening descended silently, a maidservant stepped forward to light the lamp and respectfully withdrew.
"You all carry on, I’ll be right back."
Su Pan’er quickly rose to her feet and chased after.
Of life’s three urgents, she had filled her stomach with wine and was now urgently in need of the toilet.
After dealing with her physiological needs, the slightly tipsy Su Pan’er did not rush back. Instead, she took the small lantern from the maid and strolled leisurely along the path.
The outside breeze was gentle, blowing against her face, taking away the heat on her cheeks, bringing with it an extraordinarily comfortable and peaceful feeling.
She strolled along, watching the lotus pond under the moonlight; the young lotus just showed their sharp corners while speckled lotus leaves floated on the surface tenderly complimenting the moon in the sky, embellishing the entire pond!
The moment a slight breeze blew, the surface of the pond stirred thousands of waves, glittering speckles of loose silver coins twinkling, presenting a surreal beauty.
She couldn’t help but lean against the edge of the Famous Pavilion, utterly mesmerized!
While she was leisurely admiring the night scene and sobering up, a sudden voice disrupted the beautiful scene.
"Ha, I thought there was some important person admiring the night view. Upon a closer look, it’s just someone faking it!"
With these sarcastic words, the drunken Su Sikong staggered over.
During the day, Su Sikong not only lost face but embarrassed himself in front of the new County Magistrate and Eighth Master, and was even thrashed by the latter before leaving.
Especially when he returned to the county government office and heard the sound of cheers and good times coming from the other side, his inner discomfort was too much to bear!
This was partly the fault of the architecture of the county office itself. The front part was the main hall where the officials worked every day, followed by a resting lounge and then only the residences of the County Magistrate, the Deputy County Magistrate, and the county magistrate registrar.
Su Sikong usually lived in the new courtyard he had bought and rarely stayed in the county government office.
But this time, Yue’er was injured and Eighth Master and others needed a temporary residence. So he naturally arranged for Yue’er to stay in this safe place. Who would have thought that upon returning from sending off Eighth Master, he would hear such a disturbing scene?
He couldn’t help it and picked up a jug of wine, drank himself, to soothe his upset mind. As he was enjoying his drink, he spotted Su Pan’er sitting alone by the lotus pond and his anger flared.
He couldn’t help but throw a sarcastic remark.
Su Pan’er also had a bit of a drink. Hearing the sudden voice, she turned her head to find. Su Sikong’s face in the moonlight appeared rather twisted, and she immediately burst into laughter!
"I was wondering which noisy raven had arrived, but upon a closer look, it turns out to be Deputy County Magistrate Su. What a mistake, my sincere apologies!"
Somebody rudely interrupting her peace, how annoying!
Su Pan’er, having lost interest in the view, got up and moved towards the interior.
"Humph! What’s the matter? Feeling guilty, are we?"
Su Sikong was also somewhat drunk. Seeing a chance to humiliate her alone, how could he let her go so easily?
He promptly burst out laughing: "Don’t think that just because you have somebody backing you, you can act lawlessly. Do you not know what respect is? Or maybe I should ask your uncle, Su Lao Si, just what kind of good daughter he has raised!"
"Shouldn’t I be the one asking you that question?"
If a man does not oppress a tiger, why would the tiger harm the man!
Su Pan’er spun around and burst into laughter, "So, my second cousin is seriously injured right now, yet I wonder how she managed to end up so badly hurt? My curiosity is utterly piqued. Would my uncle kindly satisfy my curiosity?"
"You... you damn girl!"
Su Sikong could no longer contain himself and cursed vehemently!
However, Su Pan’er didn’t engage in a shouting match with him, instead, she playfully twirled her little lantern and strutted back into the house.
Leaving Su Sikong fuming and jumping out of his skin in frustration.
When Su Pan’er got up to leave, Qin Yi noticed and had the intent to follow her out, but was held back by Hwa Diexiang, "Even though you’ve won twice, there’s no rush. Let’s go another round. Wait, I’ve got another riddle...."
Qin Yi had no choice but to sit back down and start pondering on the answer again.
"Lord Hwa, the esteemed Hua County Official, unexpectedly testing people again? Hehe, why didn’t you invite me to recite poetry in pair, such a fun thing?"
At this moment, a burst of giggles echoed from the sidelines.
A fragrant breeze wafted over, followed by the entrance of a young girl who was elegantly dressed and appeared under the illumination of two maidservants carrying lanterns.
As soon as she spoke, any vestiges of pride that Hwa Diexiang had on his face were replaced with twitches at the corner of his mouth.
"Your Excellency Lord Hwa, why have you stopped speaking? I was truly enjoying your discussion earlier, please carry on!"
As she let out a giggle, the young girl walked up to the wine table.
"Miss Ruoxue is brilliant as ice and snow. Your skills in poetry, song and literature are without compare. I dare not show off in front of you," replied Hwa Diexiang with a smile.
"Your Lordship, you’re flattering me too much. My understanding of these subjects is extremely limited. I couldn’t help but join you when I heard your fascinating discussion about the poetry, please excuse my intrusion," said Jun Ruoxue with a graceful smile.
She was lit by the red lanterns held by the maidservants. Her chiffon dress with gold and silver threads sparkled, her hairpin remained steady with each step she took.
Her soft and delicate face bore a playful smile, even her eyes were glistening like warm jade. Her charming lips were upturned forming a perfect arc resembling a blooming rose, incredibly enchanting.
Her mannerisms, cultivated since childhood, displayed the unique etiquette of young ladies from big families, distinguishing her from others.
"Miss Ruoxue’s intelligence is as clear as ice and snow. Your talents in poetry, chess, calligraphy, painting and music are unrivalled. How would I dare to perform imperfectly in front of you?" Hwa Diexiang replied with a smile.
"Your Lordship, you’re truly overestimating my abilities. My understanding of these subjects is still half-baked. I couldn’t resist joining you upon hearing your enlightening discussion about the poetry, my abruptness may be too presumptuous, please excuse my intrusion," said Jun Ruoxue with a graceful smile.
Jun Ruoxue returned the curtseys cordially with a beaming smile.
"Ruoxue, why are you here this late?"
Jun Ruochen shook his head in slight exasperation, introducing her to the others with a smile, "Everyone, this is my younger sister Jun Ruoxue, she’s a little playful. If she offends anyone, I kindly ask for everyone’s understanding."
Everyone acknowledged her with a nod, and Jun Ruoxue responded to each one with grace and poise.
"Snow, it’s getting late, you should get some rest," Jun Ruochen advised with a gentle smile.
"Brother Chen, seriously! I have just arrived, and you’re already asking me to leave?"
Jun Ruoxue complained sweetly, "Usually, you barely socialize with anyone, and this place is always deserted. Finally, we have a few guests, and I can’t even meet and chat with them? Are you trying to bore me to death?"
