Chapter 208: Start Of Day 1

Morning came in a flash as the travely tired soldiers got a deep rest before being knocked from their bedrolls at the dawn call as the trumpets sounded into the air summoning the army to assemble for the days battles.

Julius and his men knew the drill they quickly assembled in their own meeting point with the commanders giving a further overview to the men, Julius meanwhile continued to check the men’s equipment and weapons as today would be a stage 1 kinda day.

The Allied force would want nothing more than to bring the Spartan’s to heel by nipping at their heels even further by reducing their greatest fighters to an even further paltry few, little did they know that the Romanus had arrived to reinforce them.

The Spartan’s meanwhile were walking around with renewed vigor, the rumors in camp had spread about how an ally had arrived and a strong one at that, the once sunken people who wished for a glorious death now had that spark in their eye who wished for the glorious death of their enemies once again.

The assembly of the army was called to order per their discussion, as Leonidas had no real idea of the Romanus strength he could not put them on the right side of their formation, and so without hesitation in rejecting Julius and his 1,000 Praetorians made up the Left most position typically saved for the weakest in a phalanx army, as the battle lines were drawn the chosen terrain was relatively flat, with forests on either side having been cleared out at some point in the past to create the grasslands where the road was made.

As the lines were drawn there was a simple pause at first, the Allied force most likely believed the Spartans to be unable to send forth champions at this point, however this belief was short lived as all across the front dozens of men strode forth, and Julius’s own 5 rows deep Praetorians were no different, 10 men including himself also stepped forth into the abyss of single combat.

Having seen this move the Allied force likewise began sending out their champions.

"I am Aris, known as Doomroar i know not where you come from stranger but your end is here!" <Aris>

"Call me Julius" <Julius>

His opponent was an Argosian, a man dressed in full hoplite gear however upon a unit inspection Julius was disappointed...

Sure they were on the left flank but that should mean they were fighting the best of the opposing army, but instead it seems today at lease the Allied forces had sent their best after the King and his men to end this fight once and for all.

As the various pairs met up gave their names, the mortal combat began.

Julius was presently geared similar to a hoplite save for the large rectangular shield, which limited his mobility a little bit, however thanks to his recent levelling up and the spending of points his power level more than made up for it’s weight.

Across from him Aris took a typical spearman stance with his spear placed at the upper diagonal of his own shield.

’Sigh’

Stabbing his own spear into the ground Julius reached for his back and grabbed a Pilum, as Aris watched on unsure of what Julius was doing soon he became shocked.

The warrior he once saw in front of him had disappeared and his vision instead was blue.

And intense pain likewise had begun to radiate across his torso.

Having retrieved his Javalin from his back Julius had thrown it, the speed at which it travelled was unheard of for the weaker Aris his weakspot exposed and punctured easily by the thrown spear.

Down the line the Praetorians likewise had performed the same as the king and in a matter of moments all 10 had one their fights with a single move.

"Aris Doomroar has been defeated, is there anyone else who will challenge me!" <Julius>

Their battle having ended as once he was down Julius placed the blade of his spear on his neck and the man surrendered.

As agreed upon per the terms of single combat a slave mark was etched on the back of the man’s hand, having made sure not to make a mortal blow, Julius commanded Aris to join his brothers behind the lines for medical attention.

The allied force was shocked at this.

The newcomers an unknown in this war had just steamrolled the first line of champions sent forth, sure those men were just a probing force but even still they lost shamefully.

Not choosing to wait a moment more another 10 set forth from the Allied lines towards Julius and his men, who remained standing vigil in place after announcing their individual victories and calling for another to come forth and challenge them.

All up the lines combat continued to rage for hours, the chances of someone dying were pretty slim but in the event it did happen it was mostly a spartan who’d die refusing to give up, unless they’d been knocked unconsious by a blow to the head.

To the allied force watching the situation which should have been in their favor had completly turned on it’s head.

While specific spartans were to be expected, Julius and his men were beyond their expectation, even after sending forth their own captured spartan slaves to combat the newcommers they likewise fell.

Each man of the Legion would fight 5 opponents in a row before returning to the lines only to be replaced by a fresh man, the only on who did not fall back was Julius.

He had been fighting one after the other for hours on end now, having cast his [White Nova] spell on himself twice just to eliminate the fatigue he was feeling from the continuous combat.
